Brian could exactly tell that Dom was angry maybe insulted by his posture and that was never healthy for Brian. So he tried to calm him down. "I'm just trying to tell you that her parents need to knwo where she is and if they would really 'whore her out' they will go to jail." He was standing his ground. "She's 15. Child services will take care of her. what are you doing?"

"Child services didn't take care of her before, they definitely won't now. Didn't you hear that I found her in Mexico?? The government obviously wasn't taking care of her then, were they?" Dom couldn't believe that Brian was touting Child Services... The same Child Services that tried to seperate him and Mia and send him out of LA altogether and into a 'boy's home' until he hit 18.
"She stays where she's safe, and she feels safe with me. She trusts me. I'm not gonna break that and give her nowhere to turn." He looked down at her again and ran a hand through her hair before looking back up. "Her father was a shitbag; why would I make her feel like her second one was, too?"

Brian heard the anger in Dom's voice. He felt the sympathy as well. But he still had to ask the questions. "So what. Are you going to be her replacement family? While you're still on the run yourself? Maybe the kids judgement is not the best? But yours should be." His eyes pleaded with Mia to say soemthing but obviously she wanted to stay out of it.

"I didn't ask for her to find me, and I didn't ask her to stay!" he rumbled quietly, still trying not to wake her up. "If there was anywhere else for her I'd send her, but there isn't!" He knew what Brian was trying to say, understood it, but reality rarely supported what was right or good in the world, and both of them knew that first hand.

Brian looked at him long and hard. then he looked at the girl curled up on the table and his expression became a little softer. He bit his lip. "is she going to live with you? I hope you know what you're doing, man."

"I don't know what's going to happen right now, Brian. I never expected her to come back for me; I thought she was self-sufficient enough to handle herself." He looked down and realized how young she looked asleep. "Guess I was wrong, huh? I'll figure it out. Not like I'm all by myself anymore, is it?"

"No, you're not." Brian confirmed. "You found a place to stay, right?" Brian had overheard that Dom had an appartment now and was not staying at motels anymore.

"Yeah, I've got an apartment in Old Town; I would take her there but I have to explain it to Letty first." He picked Eva up again. "I'm gonna put her in my room at the Fort. She should be fine there; I've got to go get something this afternoon."

"What are you going to get?" Rome asked curiously. He had stayed out of the conversation up to this point, prudently deciding that the engine needed more work than Dom. He finally looked up when the conversation went from angry to resigned to wistful, and was honestly curious as to what the big man could possibly need.

Brian didn't think that was such a great idea. After all the Fort was his residence now and if she was found there people would think that Brian and Mia were hiding her there. "Hang on, the fort? Everybody's going to think I put her there. 'I can't say that my criminal friend on the run put her there cause that would be another criminal offense!"

Tired green eyes blinked hazily open at the loud voices. She'd woken a while before, long enough to realise she was a burden to these people. That she could get them into a lot of trouble. She didn't trust the cop at any rate. She wouldn't sleep in the same place as him.
He held a badge, which in her eyes made him the same as those who held her down. Who laughed at her tears, and tore away the self confidence she had. Cherry lips part in a slight groan, the light hurting her eyes.
Slowly propping herself up she feels her right arm buckle under her slight weight. Managing to shift herself hopefully before anyone noticed. Uncharacteristically she pulled away from the hand petting her hair. Her voice was low but quite sure of herself.
Dom had been right she always had been self sufficient. She'd had to be, she practically raised herself. Why she suddenly felt the need for someone to care she couldn't explain. She knew this though she wouldn't burden these people for very long. It appeared she wasn't welcome for the most part anyway.
Eva: I'm only in town for a couple of days. Once i've got the money together i'll be moving again.
She'd heard the words about staying at the fort, she could see the blondes abhorance at the idea and to be frank she didn't want to be nearer to him than she had to be. Right now with papa there she was ok, he made it ok but to go to sleep in the same house as that man..NO. Turning toward Dom her sea green eyes uncertain.
She didn't want the blonde, brian to understand her, so she did what she typically did switched languages. She favored Italian but spoke french, spanish and portuguese just as fluently. She didn't want Brian to know he scared her.
Eva: Non farmi stare vicino alla bionda, lui è come loro, lui mi tenete premuto e riderci sopra, per favore avrò incubi
(please don't make me stay near the blonde one. He's like them, he'll hold me down and laugh about it, please i'll have nightmares)

Dom looked down when he felt Eva move, and frowned at her words, especially when she switched to Italian. "*Eva, he's nothing like them. He's the one who got me out of prison. He's worried because his girl's pregnant,*" he pointed at Mia, "*and he's trying not to get the feds down on him anymore than I am. Cut him some slack. I'll try to take you to the apartment, okay?*"

Brian could tell that they were talking about him when they switched to another language he didn't understand. he could only guess it was Italian. "Fine, be all secretive but she's not staying at the Fort." Brian knew he was walking on thin ice considering that the Fort was still dom's place.

With eyes so much older than her 15 years the teen glanced around the group of people. It was only really Brian that made her uncomfortable, it was unfair becaue up until this point he'd been nothing but kind. It was just a nervous reaction to the badge.
She had been proven right though there was no such thing as a former cop. Every remark he made was overlaid by years of police brainwashing. Everything was perfect people didn't abuse their children and child services had never failed anyone.
She noticed an equal amount of distrust on Brians face with regards to her, maybe what Dom had said about being nervous was true. She'd always been able to lie herself out of most situations involving cops. The one she hadn't still haunted her.
Eva: Vuole già a rimandarmi a lei, io morirò prima di andare indietro (he already wants to send me back to her, i'll die before i go back)
Turning a cold gaze on Brian for no other reason than the fact he seems to have taken a dislike to her. She had heard mention of child services, she knew they would just give her back. They had done last time.
Eva: So do we believe child services never mess up? I can tell you from experience they mess up all the time.
She had wanted to curse there but she knew he wouldn't approve. Her green blue eyes looked jaded, lost in bitter memories.
Eva: They send a three year old with track marks up her arms back to her mother. Apparently it was just a case of severe post natal depression that she so sorely regretted. It wasn't the fact that she didn't want her daughter crying and disturbing her clients in case they refused to pay.
She refused to meet anyones eyes when she said this. Not because she was lying or any other such reason simply because she couldn't bare to see the reactions.

To Brian this story seemed just a bit too strange to be true. He didn't quite buy it. It was true. In his mind cops, child services, governments were doing their job. They did occassionally fail but so did other people. That's exactly what he told Eva. "If your story is true I'm very sorry for you."
He shrugged. "Your call, Dom." Of course he was aware that Mia wouldn't let him send the girl away. "Just bare in mind that I'm not exactly on the Fed's good grazes."

"*He's not trying to send you back, cara. He has a family to look after, too," he soothed, putting a hand on her shoulder. His heart broke inside when she told Brian about the track marks and how badly services fucked up.
"It's not like she's gonna be living at the Fort," he said mildly when Brian insisted that he didn't like it. "And I'll find somewhere else for her if the apartment doesn't work out. Happy?" He turned to Eva. "It's settled. Go back to sleep, chiquita."
