Walter had hit the pool hard, despite the burn in his muscles he kept his breathing strong and his pulls hard. His body hardly stopped long enough to turn around at the end of each lap. He hit the 20th lap and finished strong before pulling out of the pool and began to pump out push ups.

Sporting a frown that somehow had gotten attached to his face over the past three months Brian entered the large sports complex. The room of his physical therapist was located pretty far in the back. It contained most of the medical equipment but Brian was glad that they had started using the gym next door more often. Today he'd ask him to kick it up a notch when he suddenly spotted a familiar face doing push ups.
He stopped next to him and leaned his shoulder against one of the machines. "I though we're going to do this together?"

Walter popped his feet under him and stood up. He smiled widely, "It was a warm up, so what do you want to do?" He shot the question out an began to towl off.

"Warm up, then lots of legs: leg press, leg extension, leg curl, chest press, shoulder press and squats. The some cardio" he clapped Walter on the shoulder. "Gonna get back in shape, man...just have to go and talk to my therapist quickly about my plan..." He did his best attempt of an easy job to the mans office. Brian had understood what he needed to do. If his knee wouldn't cooperate and heal, he'd simply ignore it. The painkillers he had swallowed at home should do the trick.
Ten minutes later he was back and doing an easy walk on the treatmill before he joined Walter whose face was already pretty red. "So what's your routine? When did you get back into training?" He adjusted the seat on the leg press and sat down.

"To be honest I never stopped training, I spent every day working on something until my body stopped listening to me." Walter shrugged, "Lately I've been working on swimming, one of my favorite exercises is swimming, it's low resistance but works everything." He said almost silently a hint of sadness in his voice, "But hey, jump on in if you want it's better then most presses for your knee to heel, weight training might kill your muscle tissue right now."

"Yeah?" Brian wrinkled his brow. It was exactly what the therapist had told him for months but he just didn't want to wait any longer. "So swimming, huh? Do you have a spare bathing suit? Cause I didn't bring one." He sat down on a mat and looked up at Walter. "So how's your world these days? Are you still seeing Ree?" He knew that Walter spent a lot of time in his garage and working on his own car projects but other than that he was a blank page.

"After I left your shop that first day back I went to visit her, we decided to take things a bit slower now. I rushed into the relationship the first time and after all this went down I could see in her eyes how badly I hurt her. We arn't living in the same house again, yet." He walked to his bag and removed his spare trunks and dive goggles. "Aside from that we are just dating and spending time together, i'm teaching her some extra moves and helping her leg heal. She's beating my bruised ribs back into place so I figure it's a fair trade." He laughed and tossed the gear to Brian.

Catching the gear in mid air Brian smiled. "Always prepared, huh? You're like a boy scout."
He saw Walters face light up slightly when he talked about Ree. Brian had only met the woman once but she did leave an impression on him. "Sounds like you two are a really good match and if she's willing to give you another try, I'd say go for it. I know what I'm talking about." Even though Mia wasn't too pleased with him right now Brian still loved her dearly and never regretted coming back to her.
"I'll go change. See you in a minute." Exactly two minutes later he was back in Walters shorts, that were perfect size for him, and the goggles on top of his head. "I don't even know where the pool is.."

Walter smiled and lead the way back past their old training room towards the Olympic size lap pool. He pulled his shirt off revealing new scars including a tic tac toe board and a jagged smiley face, the former by his right shoulder and he latter by his left kidney. He dropped his shirt next to his bag and grabbed his goggles. "Take it easy, work on simple strokes like the breast stroke and side stroke, if your leg starts to hurt put more power in your arms and use your legs just for control and visa versa. And Brian I know you're competitive but do not try to keep up with me..." He said this as a fact not a challenge, he didn't want Brian to hurt himself but at te same time he didn't want to slow himself down because it would just hurt him.

With bare feet and only clad in swim shorts and a towel around his shoulders Brian followed Walter to the pool. It was large and pretty busy. When the guy pulled off his shirt Brian couldn't help but stare at the multitude of old and new scars. He whistled. "Damn, why are you still alive? I think I've asked you before whether you're wolverine." He looked at the two that were still red and visible despite Walter's dark teint. "Bulletts? Did you loose that kidney?"

"You see, I am from the future and you Brian O'conner are going to be the savior of the human race." Walter did his best Terminator expression with a serious face before laughing hysterically causing a lot of people to look in their direction. "Nah kidney is still there, people don't realize how dangerous it is to actually tie a persons hands in front of them, I'm glad a lot of thugs don't get properly trained or in many occasions I wouldn't be here now." He smiled awkwardly and stepped to the edge of the pool where two lanes were cleared, he dove in shallowly and surfaced a few yards later to begin treading water.

Walters imitation and the following mad laughter made Brian crack up until he had to hold his side. "You're whacko, man!" He shook his head, dropped the towel to reveil his own set of scars he had gathered over the past two years, not as impressive as Walters but still there: One from when he rolled the car in Mexico on his rib, one on the back from the prison break, one on the lower left front where his kidney used to be and the latest addition on his knee. If he kept going at that pace he'd need an organ donor soon. He jumped in and followed Walter. "I think you might have to teach me some more of those bad ass moves." Easily he parted the water and swam to the other end and back at a steady pace.

"Maybe, there isn't really much of a need for it now." Walter said as he finished his own couple sets of laps, his combat side stroke was off and he could feel it. The still healing bullet wounds had done a lot of damage to his arms and pecs. "When we both have healed enough I'll get back into training for us but right now we need to get ourselves to not be limping everywhere we go."

Brian caught up with Walter on the other side of the pool and held on to the side. His breath was fast and he could feel his lungs burning. Usually that only happened when he did sprints. "Man, I'm out of shape. I think you're right." He stretched his knee out under water. "My woman is pushing...I have to get active or get out. So maybe I'm a little over eager." His feet pushed against the side of the pool and he went for a back stroke lap, then another. After those two his pace became slower. Even though the excercise in the water was easy and low pressure he could feel the pain in his knee increase. Silently he curse while he was waiting for Walter to finish the lap.

Walter took a deep breath and dropped below the surface, his strokes were calm and even. He could feel each muscle pull along the scar tissue but he blocked out the pain and focused ahead at the wall in front of him. As he drew closer he let the air out and surfaced with it tagging the wall. "Then get to it, don't be over eager or you'll rush and hurt yourself worse. Look at me, I got anxious about that NSA job, nearly got us all killed."

Brian just shook his head. In his books Walter safed him. He was one of the good guys, mostly... He saluted Walter. "Yes, sir.", smiled and went for two more laps. His pace was quite slow now but steady. He couldn't keep up with Walter yet but was feeling pretty good the longer he swam. Breath in, nose under water, stroke, bubbles out, breath in, nose under water, breast stroke, bubbles out. The steady rhythm made his thoughts drift away to Mia. Brian was doing as she told him but how would he let her know? Come home and say: Hey baby, guess what, I went swimming today? Are you proud? Most likely not. Walter had already reached the other end of the pool when Brian was half way through and something in his knee got caught and hurt like hell. He stopped his exercise and tried to straighten his knee while treading water with one leg and arms. "Damn." Brian knew he wouldn't drown. He swam well enough to reach the other side without any legs. But the stinging pain wasn't only mindnumbing but also annoying like hell. Once again he tried to straighten it and to his big surprise succeeded. The pain subsided as if nothing ever happened. Brian paddeled to the other side and pulled himself out of the pool and wiped the water from his face. "Fuck."

Brian looked up at Walter, who was the last person he would possibly admit any physical fault to. Shaking his head he replied. "Nah, fine. Nothing, man." He was breathing hard. "How long have you been here today?"

Joker checked his watch carefully, "I think I'm sitting just under 4 hours, pool works wonders. I hit the water and after the fifteenth lap feels great. I love it," He looked at the pool and smiled, absently his palm rolled over where his SEAL insignia once was. "Feels like I'm more at home in the water then on the land..." He shook his head snapping himself from his reverie.

"Yeah, you look like you're about to grow fins...4 hours. Holy shit, man. Get out of the water or you'll become part of it!" Brian rolled his shoulders and slipped back into the water. "I'll swim two more laps, okay?" He really didn't want to because of the chance of history repeating itself but if Joker had spent 4 hours in the pool Brian had to stay longer than 10 minutes.
