"So you expect me to sit tight and be quiet and watch my brother run into an ambush and if he survives that you'll throw him in jail. Wonderful." Brian frowned. Did he have a choice in this matter? Could he negotiate on behalf of Jack and did he even want to?
Right now he was sour so his answer to Hoitz' question was abrupt. "When I can walk straight again...a week or so." He didn't want to be pinned to a date in case he needed to make 'arrangements'.
"What about some sort of deal? If he works for us can he get some time knocked off his sentence?"
In front of the office the police officer rubbed her shoulder in a friendly manner. "If you ever need to talk, I'm a good listener."

"I'm not completely heartless. What kinda deal?" Hoitz tapped his fingers against the desk. "Like if he helps us he gets a redueced sentence? There is no way he is getting off completely free, I mean he shot a cop and I haven't forgotten about the impound lot."
Mira smiled up at the other officer. "Thanks that means alot to hear." She glanced at the door to Hoitz's office. Hopefully things were going alright for Brian. "Got a moment to listen now?" She took a drink from the coffee he had brought her.

Out of a spur of the moment Brian stated. "I'm not pressing any charges because of the shooting." Of course he could see the irritated look on the man's face. "I got him back worse than he got me and I'm pretty sure he didn't shoot to kill, at least that's what I think. He must have known I'm wearing a vest when I go out for arrests." Truth be told Brian still had to get his brothers confirmation on that one. "Can you bring it down to five years?" Going out on a limb was one of his specialities.
"Yeah, I have some time. Let's grab a coffee and go to the staff room." The man offered happy that Mira was finally taking notice of him and even if it was only as a shoulder to cry on.

Hoitz stared at Brian. "It's a possiablity." He leaned back into his chair, crossing his arms over his chest. "We will have to wait and see how much help he is in bringing down his boss." "Now get out of here and get some rest. The sooner you are better the sooner you can get to work on this case again." He then went back to reading the reports on his desk.
Mira smiled alittle more. Now at least she had another friend besides Brian at work. It was really sweet of him to offer to listen to her problems. Taking her coffee cup, she filled it before walking into the staff room with him. "Thanks for this. It's nice to know I have more then one friend here." She sat down on one of the rooms chairs noticing her hands had stopped shaking.

Brian stayed put. "I'll need a little more than 'it's a possibility' if you want me to play along this bullshit game of me being dead." Crossing his arms over his chest he leaned back waiting for more.
The guy smiled at Mira. "No problem. I know it's hard. I remember when I shot my first suspect. The man died on the scene. He had fired a round at a woman in a store. I told him to drop his weapon but he took aim at me and 'boom' I had to shoot him. Nevertheless I went through options in my head for weeks...what if I had aimed for his shoulder, what if I had ducked...you know." He drank some coffee and then smiled again, this time a little wider. "Who else is your friend here?" He could feel slight jealousy because he had had his eye out for her since she started.

"I can't promise much right now O'Conner. But if your brother helps catch this guy, I can promise he will get some kind of a deal." Hoitz looked up from the reports to Brian. He could either take the offer or leave it. It was his choice.
Mira nodded. "Yeah I keep replaying it in my head. I know I did the right thing when I shot him but...I still kinda haunts me... Everytime I go past the front of the office my hands start to shake like crazy and every night since then I have had nightmares about it...." She held her head in her hands elbows resting on her knees. "Surprisingly O'Conner is my only other friend here." She glanced at him.

A bad deal was better than none so Brian slowly nodded. "I'll not let him know that I'm alive ...for now. See where that gets you." A little stiff Brian stood up and before he left he added. "Officer Hobbs saved my life, you know that, right?" "Send her in!" Was the only answer he received.
Her colleague nodded in understanding. "I know what you mean. Occassionally I still get bad dreams and I'm sorry but it will never be easier even though you get used to it." He blew on his coffee sending small ripples across the cup. "O'Conner? Not the one you shot, I'm assuming? Why him? You gotta watch your back around him...he's a , you know...foul egg."

"Great. I don't think I can survive any more nights with hardly any sleep." She leaned back against the couch. Mira sighed almost sadly. "some how I knew you would say that. I trust him." she looked down at her coffee. Brian was right. She wasn't gonna get any credit for dating him. "He isn't a foul egg. And I would be happy if you didn't talk about my boyfriend that way." She took a drink of her coffee. Well now people would know they were together. Hopefully Brian didn't want to keep their relationship a secret.

Brian turned the corner just in time to hear Mira and raised two eyebrows in surprise. She was pretty quick to call him that and it was a brave move in a station full of people, who didn't really appreciate his presence-especially now.
The cop next to Mira hadn't noticed him and was equally stunned. "He's your boyfriend? I'm sorry, I didn't know that. I just mean I heard a story about an investigation that went wrong that's all. He's alright I guess."
Brian clapped him on the shoulder. "Safe it, bro." The guy was one of the few he could actually stand around here.
"The captain wants to see you." Demonstratively he gave her a quick kiss before she left. "Good luck."

"It's okay." Mira smiled alittle when she saw Brian. After hearing the captain wanted to see her, Mira got nervous. Hopefully he was gonna be in a good mood. Brian's kiss surprised her but it took away alittle bit of her nervousness. At least no matter what happened when it was over she got to leave and stay with him. "I'm gonna need that luck." She finished her coffee quickly and walked to Hoitz's office. Taking a deep breath she opened the door. "You wanted to see me sir?" She sat down in one of the chairs.
The officer watched Mira leave then turned to look at Brian. "Sorry." He took a drink of his coffee. "So how are you feeling?"

Brian watched her walk away until she was completely gone and then turned his attention on the guy. "How am I?" He wrinkled his brow. Was this 'colleague' actually playing nice now? "The way you feel after two bulletts hit your vest...sore." He gave a half-assed grin. "You know what that feels like?" Then he grabbed a cup from the cabinet and poured himself a coffee, then added some milk before he turned around. "You like her, don't you?" Blowing on the hot brown liquid he added. "I like her, too." and gave him a meaningful look.
The captain looked over the rim of his glasses when Mira entered and tapped his fingers on a pile of papers. "You know what this is? I'll help you out. The O'Conner case. Yes, it is this big now! And you haven't achieved anything but shot the guy. Okay, we have him in custody now...but you know what???" He grew pretty angry. "That's no good because we need him on the street to catch the big fish!"

He leaned back in his seat alittle. "Atleast it hit you in the vest. From what I hear your brother wasn't too lucky with his. One to the thigh and one to the shoulder. I can only imagine what that feels like." A shocked look spread acrossed his face. "Is it that obvious?" He stared down at his coffee for a moment before looking back up at Brian meeting his eyes.
Mira's hands started to shake. "I'm sorry sir. But if I hadn't done what I did Brian might not be here right now." Her mismatched eyes couldn't meet his gaze so she stared down at the file on his desk. As he continued his yelling Mira just wished she could disappear. She bit her lip and held back the tears refusing to cry in front of her boss. Though the moment she was alone she knew the tears would start to fall.

"To me it is." Brian nodded and drank some coffee but ignore the comment about his poor brother.
"How far are you with the place where most of the cars can be found?" The captain was antsy about this case. It seemed to be going downhill too fast. "Can you tell me how we're supposed to catch the man behind it all now that you crippled the guy you were supposed to be following?" His blue eyes stared at her while the vein in his neck seemed to pop out.

"It wasn't to her..." He finished his coffee and set the cup on the table next to him.
Mira looked up from the file. "I just got the list of dealers today. I haven't have a chance to look at it yet." She clenched her hands into fists her nails digging into the skin of her palm creating little red crescents, and in some of those crescents drawing blood. "What was I supposed to do sir? Let Jack kill Brian? I'm sorry I couldn't just stand by and watch him... another office get shot and possibly killed."

"She knows. JUst doesn't want to let you know." Brian smiled mockingly and drank the rest of his coffee before he got up and left the man where he was.
"I never said you didn't act correctly, did I?" There it was again. That look over the rim of his glasses. "Now get me results! We need to put Jack O'Conner back on the street-pronto!" Then he waved her out of his office.

Mira stood and walked out of Hoitz's office. That had been much worse then she expected. As she walked past her desk, she grabbed the rest of her case files. A single tear fell from her eye as she gathered the files in her arms. Not bothering to meet the stares of her colleagues she walked out to her charger. Throwing the files onto the back seat she slid in and slammed the door closed. More tears slid down her cheeks as her head rested against the seat while she waited from Brian.

On her way out Brian caught a glimpse of her and followed her. Outside he found Mira sitting in her car. At first it look like she was looking at the files on her lap but at closer distance he could see her shoulders trembling and her sobbing. "You're making the ink run." He tried to cheer her up when he sat down on the passenger seat but soon resorted to rubbing her back. "Was he such a big ahole?"

Mira nodded and wiped the tears off her face. "Yeah he was..." Another tear slid down her cheek. "He's pissed that I shot Jack." She looked down at her hands in her lap. They were still shaking, though the marks from her nails had stopped bleeding. Taking her keys from her pocket she turned the Charger over and drove out of the station's parking lot.

"What else were you supposed to do?" He asked while he watched her drive but kept rubbing her shoulder. "I guess he would have rather seen me die that Jack get shot or what?" Brian didn't understand what she was supposed to have done wrong.
"So let's get ahead with this stupid case and catch the bad guy so we get the captain of your back and of Jacks as well. What do you have there?"

"He said I acted correctly but I f*cked the investigation in the process." She reached up with one hand and caught his giving it a gentle squeeze before it returned to the shifter. "It's the files for of the case. Files on each robbery, on Jack, and finally every car dealer and what cars they have in stock at the moment." She parked her car next to his Skyline. Turning it off she got out grabbing the files.
Max, who was still laying on the boat's deck, picked his head up off his paws. The moment he caught sight of Mira and Brian his tail started to wag, though he didn't get up to greet them.
