As Jacks pack of cigarettes slide over the table, Pipers gaze followed them. Quirking up one side of her lips, she glanced back at him before shrugging. “Only help I need is someone to keep me company.” she told him lightly before moving to the fridge and standing up on tiptoe to feel around for something before dropping back down.
Turning towards him, she tossed something through the air that happened to be an unopen pack of smokes. “Here... You look like you could do with one of these...” she teased, before turning back to the appliance and opening it up to rummage for food.
Emerging once more, the blond carried some eggs, cheese, ham and a few vegetables before setting them on the counter. For the moment, she seemed content to take care of the task of feeding they're other hunger even as she kept slanting him glances from out of the corner of her eye. Even with wet, tousled hair, her companion was still sexy as hell and she couldn't quiet keep from checking him out.
Geez, maybe she'd really been to long without male companionship. All ready, her body was wondering how quick she could take advantage of him and it seemed entirely impolite to jump on him again like some starving sex fiend. A shift of focus was definitely in order, she decided as she pulled down two coffee cups and poured some of the black, aromatic liquid into them. “So, Jack... I take it from that Evo outside that you like cars?” she drawled out in her soft texas accent. “Did you build her or buy her? I'm afraid I don't know much about the newer imports but she looks like a nice machine.”
Setting a cup in front of him, Piper grabbed the sugar bowl and put some into her own coffee before sliding it over in case he wanted some. Stirring the liquid quickly, the dancer lifted it to her lips even as she turned to face him. “My dad was into cars too... The Charger was his before it became mine and he used to spend hours under the hood. Since I was his only kid, he made sure I spent time there too. Theres nothing like it in the whole world.”

Jack raised an eyebrow as he watched Piper grab something from atop of the fridge, though his expression soon changed into a smirk when he caught the unopened pack of smokes she tossed at him.
“Here... You look like you could do with one of these...”
"Seriously, woman. Where have you been all my life," he said, sounding all too sincere even with the grin on his face. Damn, she had to be the most alluring woman he'd ever met.
Stealing a long glance at Piper's rear as she turned back around to rummage in the fridge for food, Jack found himself wanting her again; the way just a little bit of her perfect ass teasingly peeked out from under her silken robe when she bent to grab something was just maddening, and if he wasn't mistaking, those smoldering glances she was giving him and probably thought he didn't notice seemed to indicate she hadn't quite stilled her own carnal hunger yet either.
Still, she proved to have a little more self-control than he did, opting for a change of focus instead. One that was only barely working...
“So, Jack... I take it from that Evo outside that you like cars? Did you build her or buy her? I'm afraid I don't know much about the newer imports but she looks like a nice machine.”
"Hmm? Oh. Yeah," was his first half-assed response. Even though his upstairs mind wasn't completely focused on what Piper was saying just yet (thank you downstairs brain), it always did make him smile whenever people expressed their appreciation towards his ride. He took pride in his car, always keeping her in top-notch condition, when he wasn't knee deep in trouble at least, and he liked to cut her loose on the blacktop whenever he could.
"Won her through racing, actually, driving my brother's car about three years back. She's been a never ending work in progress ever since," he answered fully now, tapping the pack of cigarettes absently against the palm of his hand a few time before finally opening it and taking one out while he listened to Piper talk about her father and her Charger.
"Sounds like you and your dad got along pretty well. Is he no longer around? I noticed you using the past tense," he asked. He'd never really been able to get along with his own father, his old man being too strict and he too stubborn and eager to go against any and all rules the man (or anyone else for that matter) set. Didn't help he was the youngest of two boys either. Brian always had been a better son than he was...
"He taught you well, though. She runs smoothly from what I could hear, and I gotta admit I've always had a thing for Chargers ever since watching Dukes of Hazard when I was little."

As Jack caught the pack and then began to speak, Piper listened quietly, food forgotten for the moment as she watched the expressions flicker over his face. His first distracted attempt to answer had her grinning impishly behind her cup but his words about the race really caught her ear. Lifting a brow, she considered his words before tracing the rim of the coffee cup absently.
"Won her through racing, actually, driving my brother's car about three years back. She's been a never ending work in progress ever since,"
“Wow, your brother must be really brave then.. You know, letting a wild one like yourself behind the wheel of it.” she teased, eyes dancing mischievously. “I assume he is a racer too though then? Probably taught you everything you know, right?” Tilting her head to the side, Piper continued to watch him even as her gaze couldn't help but admire the scenery.
"Sounds like you and your dad got along pretty well. Is he no longer around? I noticed you using the past tense,"
This time, it was her turn to be caught off guard and the dancer gave a little mental shake. “My Dad? Oh, yeah... He passed away a couple years ago.. He and Mom both. Dad had cancer and I think Mom just couldn't live without him. I was pretty much grown and since I was the only child of only children... There wasn't anything left for me back home in Texas. Sold the house and everything but the Charger and headed out here. Figured a change of scenery would do me wonders.” she explained, sadness flickering over her face even as she dropped her gaze to her coffee. Taking a sip, she heard his next words and nodded, memories of better times lightening her gaze once more.
"He taught you well, though. She runs smoothly from what I could hear, and I gotta admit I've always had a thing for Chargers ever since watching Dukes of Hazard when I was little."
Setting her cup aside on the counter, Piper laughed at his comment and then grinned. When she answered, it was obvious that they'd found something in common besides pure chemistry. “Yeah, Dad always swore if I didn't take care of his “baby” he'd return from the grave to haunt me. He said Baby would go through anything for me as long as I made sure she had what she needed. Can't say he's ever been wrong there.” she returned, face animated as she talked. “And Dukes of Hazard? Really? I never missed an episode of that growing up. Dad would always record it and I'd spend hours pretending to be Daisy. She was my hero. I even have several pair of Daisy Duke jean shorts to prove it.”
Tilting her head to the side, she gave him a wicked look before continuing. “Maybe, if your lucky, I'll even let you see a few of them.” she teased. “or even help me work on the Charger. Theres nothing like a man with a bit of grease on him to turn a girl on.”
Having delivered that shot, Piper realized that she was supposed to be doing something costructive and pushed away from the counter. Eying the food on the counter, she began to whip up some omelets , glancing over at him now and then as she prepared the food.
“So... Whats your brothers name? I've been around the racing scene some although since I work nights, not as much as my roommate. Do you guys make a habit of racing often or....” Letting her voice trail off, she threw some ham and cheese into the eggs before flipping it over. “My dad used to drag race some...Its how he met my mom. She was the daughter of a preacher, believe it or not, but a bit of a rebel. She was the starting line girl at a race that he won and her parents had a fit when she turned up pregnant with me. Luckily, Dad was already set on marrying her so when her parents kicked her out of the house, they got hitched and the rest was history. Every now and then, Dad would get that itch again and he and mom would go out for the thrill of it. As soon as I could drive, he was teaching me everything he knew, although Mom liked to pretend we weren't doing anything more than Sunday drives.”
Seeming to realize she was babbling on, Piper glanced over at Jack and then blushed a bit. “Sorry.. I'm rambling aren't I? What about your family?”

“Wow, your brother must be really brave then.. You know, letting a wild one like yourself behind the wheel of it.”
A little chuckle came out and Jack couldn't help but smile at the memory of that night. He could still remember the amount of convincing (if not pressure) it had taken for his brother to finally hand him those keys. A lot of things had changed since then, though his recklessness and 'act first, think later' ways in certain situations obviously had not.
“I assume he is a racer too though then? Probably taught you everything you know, right?”
"Some of it, yeah, but not everything. Believe it or not, but some things I'll only learn through trial and error," he answered amused, fishing the lighter from his own pack before casually slam dunking the wet carton into the trash can across the kitchen. Placing the cigarette he'd taken from the new pack between his lips, Jack finally lit it while he listened to Piper talk about her parents, almost regretting he'd asked about her father in the first place when he saw the emotions flicker across her face.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Didn't mean to rake up any painful memories."
Thankfully though, not everything he'd said had the same effect on her, and Piper's lively smile soon returned to her face when he mentioned something they clearly had in common.
“Yeah, Dad always swore if I didn't take care of his “baby” he'd return from the grave to haunt me. He said Baby would go through anything for me as long as I made sure she had what she needed. Can't say he's ever been wrong there. And Dukes of Hazard? Really? I never missed an episode of that growing up. Dad would always record it and I'd spend hours pretending to be Daisy. She was my hero. I even have several pair of Daisy Duke jean shorts to prove it.”
"Ha! Yeah, still know the lyrics of 'Good ol' boys' by heart... pretty sure my parents still do, too, even though they rarely ever watched the show with me," he said, laughing. "Come to think of it, I should still have a miniature model General Lee somewhere. Used to play with it all the time, until I became old enough to play with actual cars." Much to his old man's dismay. Man, the scolding he had gotten when he'd hot-wired his father's car and had gotten pulled over by one of the man's colleagues...
Good times.
“Maybe, if your lucky, I'll even let you see a few of them. Or even help me work on the Charger. Theres nothing like a man with a bit of grease on him to turn a girl on.”
That made the corner of his lips quirk up in amusement. She did know which buttons to push and how to tease him. He could already picture her in those short shorts, covered in grease, bent over the engine bay of her charger...
Mmm...
Daisy Duke had absolutely nothing on her. However, Piper's question shattered his little fantasy before it could venture much further, and damn it, Brian was the last person he wanted to be thinking about right now...
“So... Whats your brothers name? I've been around the racing scene some although since I work nights, not as much as my roommate. Do you guys make a habit of racing often or....”
"My brother's name? Uh.. his name's Brian. He used to run with Toretto's crew. Still does, I guess," Jack answered, taking a drag from his cigarette. "Unfortunately racing has taken a bit of a back seat lately. At least for me," he added, blowing the smoke back out as he spoke.
Sorry.. I'm rambling aren't I? What about your family?”
Jack smirked a little when Piper apologized for rambling, and he shook his head in disagreement.
"Naw... it's fine. Don't worry about it. As for my family... There's not much to say there," he answered with a vague lift and fall of his shoulders. "My dad used to be a cop, can you imagine that? He was a real hardass, too, and I suppose he had to be with two unruly sons. My mom, she was softer, always trying to calm the situation down when things blew up between us. Thinking back on it, I gotta say I kinda feel sorry for her now. We never made it easy for her, and I guess that's part of the reason why I left the nest so early."
Or got semi kicked out. Whichever way you wanted to look at it. After another huge blow out between him and his old man, both had had enough. His mom had disagreed with the decision of him moving out, claiming that he was too young to be on his own, but neither father nor son had given in an inch. If there was one thing they had in common and Jack had clearly inherited from his father, it was the O'Conner stubbornness.
"Anyway, lets move on to more important matters, because you've gotten me quite curious about something. Just how many of those Daisy Duke shorts do you actually have?" he asked, a grin spreading across his face now as he finished the last of his smoke, stubbing it.

"Naw...
As Jack spoke about his family, Piper watched his expression for what he didn't say as much as what he said. It was obvious that his childhood hadn't been a real pleasant thing and something in her felt sad for that fact. Unfortunately, it was a sad reality that dysfunctional families were more the norm in this day and age and that was a major part of the reason she, herself, had never had the desire to settle down, have 2.5 kids and buy a little house with a white picket fence. Having grown up with two parents madly in love, Piper wanted that sort of thing for herself and she had long ago decided she wouldn't settle for anything less. Memories of her own parents making out in the garage like a couple of horny teens crossed her mind and she smiled inwardly. Yeah, she'd been lucky in many ways.
“Sounds like your dad was a real work of art. I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like growing up with a cop for a dad.” she returned, sliding food on to plates as he spoke. His next question made her laugh though and toss him a sultry look over her shoulder. “Oh, I'm pretty sure I have a whole dresser drawer full. My roommate likes to tease me that I'd wear a worn out pair of jean shorts the the Presidents Inauguration if I could get away with it... and.. she's probably right. I'm a creature of comfort, I guess. Can't work on my car in a slinky party dress, I keep telling her. Not to mention, they go with pretty much anything so I don't have to fuss about what I'm going to wear.”
Pulling out forks and placing them on the food, she set them on the kitchen island before pulling out stools from underneath. Taking a seat on one, the lithe blond waited for Jack to join her before continuing, her voice surprisingly candid as she shot him a look.
“You know where I live now so... You want to stop by, I'd be happy to give you a look at them...”
Having issued as close as she got to an invitation, Piper took a bit of her food and watched him from the corner of her eye. One night stands were one thing but she usually made a point never to bring them home with her. This man though had made her break all the rules and she was honest enough to admit to herself that she wouldn't mind getting to know him better. The choice was his though she thought as they ate.
