She was able to see the surprise he had for her. “This is… wonderful!” she placed her hands on top of his when she felt his arms around her waist.
“Forget the bed when we can sleep out here every single night. Thank you, it´s really nice.” She turned to give him a kiss and approach slowly sitting on the new hammock, it felt soft and there was plenty of room for him to join her.
She heard his cell phone but he ignored it. Mia really thought about letting him know it was okay to take the call but instead, she padded the empty side next to her for him to join her.

It was a little hard to climb onto the hammock without making it swing so much that Mia fell out on the other side. Carefully Brian laid down next to her and put his hands behind his head. Above them the tree was full of small flowers and bees buzzing around them. "Pretty." Brian smiled and then turned to look at her as if to indicate that he actually meant her. "Let's sleep out here tonight." He sneaked his arm around her back and used his right foot to give the hammock a slight push. "Sorry about earlier. I'm just frustrated because I need a real job. Having no money and nothing real to do is annoying." Silently he wondered whether he should actually have a look who called in case it was important but he still didn't move.

She smiled placing her head on his chest. “Of course! Do you really think I was going to go back to my room and sleep on the bed when we can stay here all day?” the swing made everything so much better, it gave her time to think about what had really happen moments before they got home.
“I am sorry too, I shouldn´t prevent you to do what you really want to do. It´s not fair for you to not live your dream just to see me happy. It´s not what I want for you…” placing a gentle kiss on his chest.
Silently, he kept rocking the hammock back and forth, was this a good time to ask him what she really wanted to know? The officer Monica Fuentes was at the back of her mind, unable to shake her away from her thoughts. “Brian, can I ask you something?” she paused for a moment, shying away for a second of really finding out about this “friend” of his. “How did you…” she hesitated, she wasn’t looking for a new argument, she just wanted to know, she trusted Brian completely, who she really couldn’t trust was Monica.
“How long have you known the officer Fuentes?” she wasn’t mad, she was calm but curious, extremely curious.

Mia apologized for her making her point of view clear but Brian waved it off. "It's okay. I guess the Torettos would rather not have a cop around them, which I understand." She continued to tell him that she didn't want to keep him from being one of those uniform wearing law enforcers though. For a moment he watched her out of the corner of her eye, then nodded. "Thank you. I'll think about it."
The afternoon was not nearly as hot as the previous days so staying outside was actually nice. Just when Brian thought they could maybe share a kiss and simply lay in the shade of the big old tree for a while Mia adressed what had been on her mind ever since the hot, female cop had showed up at her door step. “How long have you known the officer Fuentes?” She asked but Brian could tell she wanted to know how exactly they met and what Monica had been to him. Brian rolled his head over to look at her and brushed a strand of her from her face. "I knew you'd ask. I saw the daggers you were shooting at her." For a moment he let Mia wait but after a pause offered some information. "We were partners in Miami. Monica was part of an undercover team. We tried to catch a guy name Carter Verone and we did. Not sure where he is now but he should still be behind bars." Vividly he remembered one hell of a crazy jump onto the mans boat and shooting him shortly after. That guy would not be a happy camper when he comes out of prison. "Back then I just wanted to catch the bad guys. I never thought about the time when those guys actually get out." He got a little lost in thoughts. Maybe his presence was putting Mia in danger.

The question was finally out there, it was a matter of seconds to see how Brian was going to react. He turned to see her and removed a strand of her hair. She forced a smile when he mentioned how Mia was looking at Monica. “Oops…” Truth was she couldn’t help it, and even Monica attitude… she just wasn’t comfortable around her …
She believed Brian but she was sure there was more to it than just partners and fighting crime in Miami. Still, that didn’t answer her question…. Now that he mentioned Miami she wondered exactly how that case both of them had to work ended… was it after they parted ways when he decided to reveal he was a cop?
Mia didn’t say anything else. Did she really have to worry about Monica at all? Was she overreacting? She closed her eyes, the day was perfect, and just to be there with him made it perfect for her. When were they ever going to have a quiet time for themselves? Without cops interrupting, without the mob, without Jack screwing everything up and in the process dragging Brian with him…

Mia didn't say much after that. Brian wasn't sure whether the whole 'police' topic made her uncomfortable again knowing how much she disliked his line of work or whether she didn't dare to ask anymore. Since he never wanted to keep her in the dark Brian decided to let her know what else happened in Miami, even though she didn't specifically ask. "In case you're wondering. Monica and I were together for a few months. She was a cop, I was a cop and there was an attraction. It didn't work out though." Once again he changed his gaze from the leafy roof above them to Mia who had her eyes closed but was listening. "She simply wasn't you." For a moment he wondered whether than was his problem with all the relationships he had after Mia. He would always compare them to the brunette. Silently he intertwinned his fingers with hers.

She opened her eyes slowly. "She simply wasn't you." she smiled at him, hearing his sincere words, glad to hear him say what happen once between him and Monica, instead he could´ve take that chance to just not say the truth, but he did and she aprreciated that a lot. She placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "I figured, the moment she looked at you... it was pretty obvious," she chuckled and covered his hand with hers when he intertwined his fingers with hers.
Looked like both of them had the same problem when they were with other people, at least Brian found love with Mira, and had a family of his own but his happiness were his kids, which she didn´t see anything wrong with that, Mia was part of his happiness too...

Her answer made Brian chuckle a little. "I know, I could tell." Why on earth Mia was shooting Monica looks like that he wasn't sure. Okay, admittedly the Latina was hot but that was bout it. Brian hadn't seen her in years and it wasn't like there had been a major relationship going on before. "Things have changed so much since then, Mia. I was young and in a different place with nothing to loose. Today I have kids and you. I really hope you're not worried about her." He tried to close the topic. After all he had made it clear that Mia was the only one he wanted to be with, even though she wasn't the mother of his children. One day he was hoping he'd be allowed to see them more and spend time with her and the two but he didn't tell her about this yet because he didn't know how she'd feel about it. Softly rocking the hammock he closed his eyes and let the breeze blow over his skin. It felt nice, almost like home...if he'd ever find such a thing.

She smiled hearing him chuckle, but in the inside she was a little bit embarrassed she acted that way. He made it clear the people that were important in his life: his kids and her. That is all she needed to hear.
Mia was young at one point but never found in Brian´s shoes dating somebody else afraid they were going to betray her just like Brian did once, but she now understood his reasons, why he did it and she didn´t hate him.
´Hate´ was such a strong word, something she couldn’t see herself do…to hate someone as much as she tried to pretend. She wasn´t like that. “I know… we aren´t those 21 year old kids anymore…” She made herself comfortable placing her head on his chest watching him close his eyes, relaxing under the rocking hammock. “I am not worried about her…”

Every day of the week Brian and Mia 'hung out' in the new hammock and started their own routines of Brian picking her up after work when he was done with his shitty job at what had to be the cheapest , worst garage in LA. The idea of actually approaching the police for an employment possibilty was postponed since Brian didn't have the impression that Mia could really accept him being a cop again. Each day Brian grew more and more frustrated not only with his limited skills as a mechanic but also the limited tools and supplies. Somehow word had gotten out that the on and off street racer was working at the shitty place so one or the other street racer with little to no money actually made their way there.
About a week later Brian got a call from Mira because she was sick as a dog. The woman had caught whatever their kids had before. Therefore she actually asked Brian whether he could take care of the kids at her place. Brian felt it was time to put his foot down and told her that he'd love to but only if he could take the twins to his place. Now he was nervously waiting for Mira to make a decision. As he once again sat and waited for Mia to get off and work and was once again scanned by the older nurses hawk eyes, he fiddled around nervously with his fingers. "Nervous?" The old nurse asked him as if she got a kick out of it but Brian simply got up and walked down the hallway to where Mia was still working. "You have to wait..." The older woman objected but Brian didn't pay attention. Intead he poked his head into the room where Mia was still busy working and asked. "How much longer are you're going to be?"

Only 5 more minutes to that clock to hit 1 o´clock and she was out of there. She heard Amber talk, her tone of voice told her it was Brian who was now waiting for her outside, her attempts to make him like Amber were impossible , it was like trying to mix water and oil.
“Amber…” she called out to the nurse, not in a happy mood, but in a “stop-mocking-my-boyfriend” type of mood. Every single time Brian came to pick her up from work it was the same thing, it looked funny at once but for her to keep doing the same thing over and over again, it was too much and it had to stop. She was glad when Brian didn´t followed Amber´s orders and he poked his head. “I am done, let´s get out of here,” she closed a few files she had in front of her, and got up exiting the room. “Hi,” she greeted him with a smile and a kiss on his lips.
She could see how tired he looked, and frustrated, very frustrated, as much as he tried to put on a happy face, something about his work was bothering him a lot, besides last time Brian brought of wanting to go back and work for the cops ended in a big argument. She couldn´t bear seeing him like this, even though she thought she knew the answer she had to ask and hear it from him. “What´s going on?” placing one of her arm around his waist, their footsteps slow as a turtle with no hurry to get to the car.

For a moment, after she kissed him, Brian looked at her in awe. Why could she read him like a book with barely casting a glance at him. He blinked and smiled to kiss her back. "Hello, how was your day?" Instead of answering her question.
Together they made their way out of what Brian liked to call torn limbs alley because of the injured people he regularily came across when picking up Mia. Once they passed the front desk he gave Amber a wave. "Till tomorrow." The woman replied with a frown and a sarcastic. "Don't bother coming back for me."
Outside Brian opened the car door for Mia and once they were on their way home replied. "Ah, I had a guy come in today to get some work done on his car...you know special work to tune it but we can't even get our hands on those kind of parts with the shitty reputation. Just stupid stuff..." He ran a hand over his tied face and then placed his palm on top of her thigh. "And you? Same old...missing fingers/toes sewed back on? Bullets wounds?"
Brian pulled into the drive in of the next Star Bucks to get a coffee. "I need to ask you something, too. It's pretty important to me but I don't know how you feel about it. Mira's sick and asked me to take care of the kids. If she's okay with it I'd like to bring them over..." He searched her eyes a bit worried for a moment because both women didn't get along at all and he didn't know how Mia would feel about the whole situation.

“It was a little quiet in the morning until 11 o´clock, people decided to rush in to the emergency 3 cases to be exact, gang fight ended up with three injured people, multiple stab wounds and gun wounds, one of them in critical condition…” she answer his question about what a normal day was for her in the hospital.
She shook her head seeing Brian wave at Amber. The old nurse replied, as much as she tried Amber would never get along with Brian. Once inside the car she listened to what Brian had to say about his job. Whenever he mentioned that special work to tune and not being able to get a hold of those part, it meant illegal racing. She rubbed his back as he ran his hands over his face.
He parked just outside Starbucks, but he stopped her before she had a chance to get out of the car. She caressed his cheek, how long had she been waiting for him to mention of bringing his kids over to her house. “You don´t even need to ask! Of course, I would love to see your kids again.” Last time she saw them they were what? A month or two?

The touch of her hand made him stop and when her face lit up and she claimed that she'd love to see them again, Brian was relieved. "Great. I was hoping you'd say that. Now I just need Mira to call and tell me she's okay with it." He grabbed the door handle and pulled it open to go inside and order two large Mocchas to go. Then he returned to the car offering Mia one. "Thought you could use one, too."
The way home was the same as usual. Lot's of traffic intermixed with a casual conversation. Brian checked his phone a few times but Mira hadn't called. So he put it back in his pocket and got out of the car. "No call. I guess she changed her mind." Suddenly he stopped himself and got back into the car. "Mira sounded pretty sick on the phone. I think I'll go by and check that everything's okay."

She waited inside the car while he went inside the Starbucks to order some coffee. She tried to picture how big his kids were right at this moment, she was excited to have that opportunity to watch them again, she was excited because HE was giving her that chance. What a better way than to spend the weekend than watching their little faces, to see them crawl even hear their laughter.
He returned after a few minutes giving her cup of coffee. "Thanks," she took it and he got in driving through the traffic, a few more minutes and they were home, still no call from Mira and he confirmed to her about not receiving a call from his ex. She pouted. She was really looking forward to see his kids. "I guess she did..." it sucked that Mira changed her mind, she was getting out of the car but he return.
"Good idea. Call me if you need anything," giving him a quick goodbye kiss, entering the house hearing the rumbling of Brian´s car.

The drive through the city waa long, especially in evening traffic and gave Brian a lot of things to think about. Like what he'd say to his ex if she objected. Whether he should tell her that it wasn't fair at all for her to keep the kids 100% of the time. He was worried that she'd drop a hint with the cops about his involvement in a drug deal gone wrong from Mexico to the LA harbor. Therefore he decided to keep his feet still and simply try to reason. When he arrived at her place he could already hear the kids crying through the closed doors. Mira didn't open however. A knock on the door told her to open up but she didn't. The crying didn't stop either so Brian instantly grew worried, knocked again, started yelling and finally decided to use his bank card to break in. It was a piece of cake. The babies were in the play pan with little red face screaming for their mom, who was nowhere to be found. Nowhere but the bathroom where Brian spotted her hunched over the toilet throwing up every thing she had inside her stomach. "Oh my..." He muttered before getting down on his knees nest to her to place his hand on her back. "Tell me how I can help you, Mira." Her grabbed some toilet paper for her to wipe her mouth when she was done. Once she turned around and sat on the floor he noticed how pale she was. "Shit, Mira. You look terrible." "Thanks." Was all she got out. The cries from the living room made her get up but her wobbly knees didn't allow the young mother to get far, so Brian told her to stay where she was until she could get up and ran to the living room to lift first one, then the other toddler out of their play pen. Soft rocking motions and his soothing voice made them calm down after a while. It took a good ten minutes for both twins to be okay again but when Brian returned to the bathroom with them on his arms Mira still hand't gotten up but was crying quietly. "I can't do this right now." "C'mon, Mira. Lay in bed, take it easy." Brian used the same calm tone with her in order not to stirr things up again. "You don't have to. Let me take care of them." "Stay here." She pleaded but Brian shook his head. "This is not my home and I think I have every right to take my kids to my home." I took her a moment but finally she agreed. "You're right." That was an unexpected change but it gave Brian the chance to finally take his kids to his home. So he packed up a few things for them and then helped their sick mother to her bed placing the phone and some water next to her. "Call a doctor, okay?" He demanded. As soon as he was out the door packed like a mule with two kids in baby car seats and a huge bag he almost jumped for joy. Finally he got to have them. After buckling them up the two fell asleep to the slight rocking of the car and gave him a chance to call Mia. "WE're coming!" At the Fort he took three steps at once running up to the door, tearing it open and hollering. "We're home, come outside, Mia, you gotta see this." Then he dashed back to the car where both babies were still sound asleep in the back seat. In awe he looked inside with a huge smile spreading on his lips. "That's the cutest thing I've ever seen."

It had been ten minutes since Brian called letting her know he was coming home and he wasn´t alone. She paced back and forth in the living room looking every three seconds out the window, a car was heard just outside her house and running footsteps became closer to her ear as Brian opened the door and told her to hurry, that the kids were still in the car.
She ran outside and stop next to Brian, a smile spread on her lips too chuckling softly as both babies were asleep. “They are so big,” they seemed huge to her who hadn´t see them in about a month. The little girl had all of Brian´s features, last time she remember was holding her that night at the docks trying to calm her cries and had an opportunity to noticed her little eyes, blue, a hypnotizing blue just like Brian´s.
His son on the other hand was handsome too, he had her mother´s features, only difference was that he had his father´s nose, she had to wait to see those beautiful eyes. Both babies were beautiful in their own way. “They are perfect. Let´s take them inside the house,” she helped Brian taking one of the car seats were the little girl was still asleep.
Inside the house, she took a seat on the sofa taking a closer look at the baby girl who all of a sudden was starting to stir in her sleep and rubbing her eyes clearly a little angry, her little blue eyes started to fill with tears and her lip started to pout, she was ready to cry and show the world how much power she had in those tiny lungs of her. Mia unbuckled his daughter from the car seat and took her in her arms rocking her slowly. “You´re okay,” she whispered to the tiny baby.
Brian´s son was still asleep, that had to be something he got from Brian. Whenever Brian was tired, it was pretty difficult to wake him up. “How was Mira?” she almost forgot about their mother.

Brian had been worried about Mia and the kids. For a while he had wished that they'd have a family together one day and he had a feeling she did, too, although they had never talked about it. Now he had children with another woman. Mia had to have mixed feelings about it. But judging by the way the pretty brunette looked at the two little ones there wasn't one bit of hard feeling anywhere inside of her. She gave them a gorgeous, loving smile and picked them up like she'd never done anything else. Brian took the same time to let his eyes roam over their little features now that he didn't have Miras critical eyes on him. "They are!" He was overwhelmed because he had them all by himself for the first time. It was great, giddy feeling.
"I wish you had met them under different circumstances." Brian referred to the criminal Sam Ward dropping his children off with her. Brian pulled one of the baby seats out and slung the bag of diapers, creams, clothes and bottles over his shoulder. "Let's go inside little man!" He cheered as he walked up the steps to the Fort and carried him inside to place him next to his sister, who was just about wake up with a scream. Mia had everything under control and soothed her though. "Mira was sick as a dog." He couldn't help the weird smile that played on his lips. "Throwing up and all, don't get me wrong. I don't want her to be sick but this actually gives me the chance I've been waiting for for a long time." He got down on his knees to look at his sleeping son closer and run his thumb over his chubby cheek. "Wow." Was all he got out. They were so beautiful in their own way. To have them at his own home felt great. Something he would want much more often. He watched Mia hold the small girl and caress her and suddenly felt a weird sensation overcome him. The perfect picture. Mia holding his child.

“I wish too I didn´t meet them the way I did because of Sam, but then again I am glad he decided to chose me to take care of them. The not so fun part was to see you suffer because you didn´t know where they were…”
She winced as she heard Brian´s description of how bad Mira was feeling, it sounded like the flu, throwing up wasn´t a good thing, hopefully Mira would be smart and call a doctor. “Your son… a mini you, same as your daughter, they have some of Mira´s features, but your son… you´ll have a hard time to wake him up, just like his dad when he is tired…”
She then looked at the little girl in her arms. “And you missy have your father´s eyes and his smile too,” chuckling as the baby started to cooed at Mia and smile back. “Wait until you are 15, that´s going to be fun to watch,”
Brian didn´t say another word and she turned to see him only to catch him looking at her. “What?” she simply asked not understanding at that moment what he was seeing, not even paying attention at all because Brian´s daughter had her full attention.

The way Mia spoke about his son made Brians heart warm. it was great to finally be allowed to be a father and embrace the moment. He could already tell that Mia loved the little ones and didn't have a problem with being around them at all. In regards to the 'sleeping' comment Brian nudged her. "What do you mean? Hard to wake up, really?" He gave her a crocked smile. "But you're padding around the house all night long, yeah?" Even if it was true Brian wouldn't know because he really slept like a log.
It was true the little girl had bright blue eyes and even her toothless smile was gorgeous. "I got my bat ready. Or should I open the door with a gun when he first boyfriend comes over?" He joked at the thought. That was all so far away. "I'm just happy to have them here now...with you." Brian wrapped his arm around Mia, who didn't understand why he was looking at her with strangely glanced over eyes.
Suddenly Brian made a face. "What's that smell?" He sniffed both of them and of course it was the cooing baby, who had her diapers full. "Right. Now, do you want to..." He held up the changing bag but then scooped her up and stated. "No, I can do this. Watch."
Placing a towel on the floor her placed her on it and started taking of the tiny clothes, which was a difficult task. Then he opened up the diaper admiring the mushy consistency and immediately closing it again. "Holy crap."
