"I can't beleive this!" Brian groaned as he left the elevetor. Once again he had to put on his suit and tie and drive into the inner city to meet his boss even though he had been promised that he'd be off as much as possible. For 15 minutes he waited patiently in front of the man's office twiddling his thumbs and growing angrier every minute. Finally he was called inside. He tried his best to hide how annoyed he really was. "Good morning, sir. Did something happen?"

Daniel sat on one of the chairs in front the big desk that belonged to his boss, his left elbow propped up on the arm rest while his fingers rubbed his closed eyes. If the gesture didn't scream annoyed than the heavy audible groan escaping from him should do the trick when he heard the familiar voice behind him. He was just told he had to work with fucking O'Conner and on Verone's case of all cases. The irony of it all was unmistakable.
He didn't bother acknowledging the man's presence when he was told to sit down nor did he show much interest in the briefing that was about to come. He was used to handling things by himself back in New York, he didn't need babysitting this suck-up or having him watching over his shoulder, yet the boss insisted on the cooperation because O'Conner had 'special' knowledge on this particular case. No shit. So did he.

To Brian's surprise next to him he found a familiar face. "Shaw. hi." They guy didn't look impressed nor did he acknoledge him. 'Nice. He's an ass after all.' he thought. The guy's behaviour didn't ease the tension he was already feeling."Sit down." is boss motioned for the empty chair and turned on the beamer behind him. The all-too familiar face of a slighty older Carter Verone showed up. A couple of observation photos followed. "We have cause to beleive that Verone is not as squeeky clean as he makes out to be. As you both know his file is as clean as a baby butt since he was sent to prison thanks to you agent O'Conner. He seems to be contacting old 'friends'." With an annoyed undertone he added. "It's hard to beleive a guy like him would change. He might even have help from local cops or FBI."

As soon as the briefing was over, Daniel had pulled himself to his feet and was on his way out of the office, only to turn around the moment O'Conner had closed the door behind them both. A hand against the chest backed the man up against the wall while Daniel pointed a finger in the blonde's face, his own showing no humor as he spoke. "I might as well get this out of the way right now. I usually work alone, I don't want to become best buddies with you. But I have to humor big boss here and if you as much as get in my way.."
Studying the man's obviously startled reaction as the interpretations were made, his own expression suddenly broke out in a smirk, a pat on the other agent's cheek following as he allowed for some personal space again when he backed up. "Glad we understand each other."

Brian was glad to get out of the office until he got shoved against the wall. His eyes turned to ice within seconds. If there was one thing he couldn't stand it was being jerked around be it by the boss or his 'partner'. His jaw was set until Daniel was done. So Brian's first impression had been right. He was a loner and an asshole. Slowly he stepped forward and raised his chin. "So you are an asshole after all and here I was thinking you're not just playing nice." Then he brushed past him. "Don't worry. I'm not keen on working with you either. Do your thing. I'll do mine." To himself he muttered. "I'm not the one who cares about this job."
