Changing the breaks on an old pick-up kept Brian busy enough so he didn't think about the argument he had with Mia the night before. Occassionally he thought about it but mostly he was too busy to let his thoughts wonder.
On top of that he needed to get the job done before Jack would come by to finish the paint job on his car. It had taken a while to get it back into its former state- the state before Brian sat behind its wheel. Brian felt bad enough about wrecking Jacks pride and joy and tried to fix it as fast as he could but it still had taken more than 2 weeks already.
He heard an engine being shut off outside that could be Jacks so he lifted his head and looked towards the door. Brian still didn't know what to do with the piece of information he had gotten from Mia that Jack had been a good companion when she was pissed off with Brian.

Jack didn't bother to look at the Evo's primer white-ish side anymore when he stepped out. Brian had been convincing in letting him do the repairs himself since he was the one fucking it up, but damnit if it hadn't taken fucking long. But on the bright side.. Well, there was no bright side to be found for him this morning.
He rubbed a hand through his untamed hair while he walked in to the garage. His drinking binge with Mia had been.. fun, he guessed, but he now knew why the doctor had advised him to stay away from liquor for the next couple of month. His brain still pounded against his skull no matter how many aspirins he had gotten his hands on.
"Yo bro! You in?" He shouted, rolling his eyes at the sight of the pick-up truck. If his brother had another excuse not to get the paint job finished, than really, he'd consider giving Brian the ass kicking he had promised him two long weeks ago.

"Yeah, here." Brian called out before he crawled out from underneath the pick up. "Hey, what's up." He said a little less enthudsiastic than he usually would. "I got the color for your car, just need to finish up the breaks on this one." He wiped his hands on his pants and nodded. "Rough night? You look like shit."

"Nothing I couldn't handle." He shrugged, even if his head didn't agree with his answer. But what was he supposed to say? 'Well, I almost drank myself to death with your wife last night.'? Yeah, that wouldn't fall too well with his brother. Not when he knew about the reason why Mia had chosen to go out with him and not her husband.
His eyes traveled toward the pick-up truck once more while he let out a groan. Right, he might not work at the garage anymore, but he still knew his way around the place and it's equipment. It was his car, and he had enough of this waiting around for the Evo to actually look like her beautiful black self again.
"Why not just let me do it myself, huh? I know you still feel guilty, which you should by the way." He smirked briefly at that while he clapped Brian on the shoulder. "But she's already waited too goddamn long for your slow ass and so have I, bro."

Brian wanted to say that Jack looked like he'd been run over by a truck but bit back that comment. After all he was still in his brothers debt. "You sure about that? Well, as long as you had fun." He frowned.
Then he shrugged. "I've been pretty busy. A lot of work has come in lately and I can only afford a part-timer. So, sure, help yourself, as long as you don't throw tools at me." He added only half-joking. "Just kidding, bro. I'm over that!" Brian was a little sour because Mia had chosen his unreliable brother to go out and have fun with.

"Don't worry about flying tools, bro. I may not look like it, but I'm sober.. ish." He snorted, cringing slightly at the uncomfortable protest from his brain. 'Never stop drinking, never get a hang-over.' If only he had kept that spirit up, he wouldn't have been feeling like shit right now.
"A part-timer, huh? Hope you pay the guy better than you did me." He mumbled sarcastically, shaking his head while he walked back outside toward the Evo. He briefly slid behind the wheel to put the shifter in to neutral before he stepped behind the car and manually pushed it in to the makeshift spraying booth. He covered and taped the windows, tires and everything else that didn't need a new paint-job with plastic, making sure nothing would be able to leak through before he cleaned and readied the parts that did needed the paint-job. Next he grabbed the rest of the needed gear, pulled a mask over his head and let it dangle around his neck while he turned back toward his brother.
"Just to make sure before I start.. You did get the right color code, right?" Not that he didn't trust Brian (well he didn't), but he was talking about his baby here. The Evo had already been trashed twice now, twice the amount of times he could bear and another fuck up would not make him a happy camper.

"Nah, it's actually a she and she is getting paid what she's worth. It's looking good." He watched Jack push the car in and lend him a hand before he went to the shelf where he had stores the color. "Yeah, it's the right color, smarty."
He stepped next to Jack and handed it to him. "So has Mia said anything to you? I mean, I'm sure she has...but anything that would help?"

"Huh?" He briefly looked at his brother while he prepared the spray gun and paint. Should he just play dumb and pretend he had no idea what Brian was talking about? Did Brian even know about his night out with Mia of all people, or was it just.. Oh christ, he was giving himself an even bigger headache than he already had. The question obviously said Brian knew, and really.. he could care less about what was going on between them. It wasn't his damned business nor fault in the first place.
"She said you're an ass, a self-centered lazy ass to be exact.. Nothing new there I'd say." He mumbled with a shrug, adjusting the air pressure before he went to test the spray gun on the Evo's old bumper. Fiddling around with the thing until he was satisfied, he turned toward his still sour looking brother once more. His answer clearly hadn't fallen too well, not that he had expected it to.
"Look, bro. I'm sure she'll come around and if not, you can always do what I did when Faye left my sorry ass. Get wasted and destroy everything in your path.. Though I don't recommend it for obvious reasons." He half smiled, not that he found it all very entertaining, before he pulled the mask back up over his face and turned his full attention on the Evo. He needed the time to get the job done and he wanted to get it done today.

Brian found a low shelf to park his lazy ass on and watched Jack put the spray paint gun together. The guy was thorough...why wasn't he working here anymore?
The words weren't exactly what he was hoping to hear yet he knew they would come. They also sounded very familiar but Brian had been hoping for a little more insight or maybe a solution. Maybe Mia had told Jack something Brian could do.... "That's it? Didn't she tell you what....?" He cut himself off. Why would Mia be talking to Jack anyway? "Why would she come to you?" The words just bubbled out. Hopefully Jack wouldn't take offense and throw stuff again.

..And so much for using all of his time here to get the Evo finished. No, Brian wanted to talk, or rather, nag about Mia. Did he look like Dr. Phil? He was pretty damned sure he didn't, not in the least bit, which made him tempted to just leave it be by not answering his brother's questions. With years of practice, he was rather good at ignoring Brian.
He raised his arm, aiming the spray gun until he lowered it again and rolled his eyes. Brian wasn't taking the hint as questions just kept pouring out of his brother's mouth.. Really, was a little peace and quiet during his work on the Evo that hard to come by these days? Especially without getting close to feeling insulted.. Holy hell, he could see why Mia was having enough of Brian's recent 'pity me' behavior.
"She didn't.." He started as he turned around toward his brother yet again, pulling the mask down from his face when he realized it muffled his voice. "She didn't come to me. She came for Faye, but she wasn't home, alright?.. So relax! She's not ditching you for the younger, better brother."

Of course Brian noticed that Jack got annoyed but heck, he'd been out partying with his wife all night long. "And the young 'better' brother didn't hesitate to volunteer to come along on a drinking and partying frenzy, or what?" Brian couldn't help but getting a little more intense. "Why didn't you stop her and maybe...talk to her? What exactly did she do?" Brian tried to calm down before Jack could laugh about his attitude. "Look, man, Mia's talking about wanting me to leave and I'm ...I'm worried."

"She's a grown woman, bro. She would have gone with or without me. You'd rather have it she went alone?" He snorted and shook his head, turning back toward the Evo once more (Was he doing pirouettes here, or what?). He had probably done Brian, and Mia for that matter, a favor. In that little number she had worn, guys would have been all over her and knowing first hand how easily drunk, vulnerable women could be worked.. Not that he'd ever taken advantage of that himself, of course..
"You wanted me to talk to her? And what was I gonna say, huh? I barely have a pretty much fucked up relationship left myself, yet you expect me to safe yours. That's your own job, man." He growled while his hand already moved up to slide the mask back in place. Whatever Brian was going to say next, he could care less. His brother wasn't the only one here with shit on his plate and he himself at least had the decency to shove it down and bottle it up. Sure, it came out in big bursts of violence and alcoholism every now and then, but it kept him.. 'stable-ish', right?
The muscles in his jaws tightened as he sprayed the first stroke on to the Evo, starting highest up. Everybody knew 'once started, don't stop until finished' and he hoped it would shut Brian up for the time being until he was finished. But he had a nagging feeling those hopes were rather high.

Jack was probably right. At least she had decent company when she decided to get wasted. Still he had hoped for a little more support or advice from his brother. Then again Jack had used every possibility to fuck up his own relationship. So he simply shrugged. "Yeah, strange idea to ask you for help." He muttered it more to himself and out of frustration but didn't mind if Jack heard it. When his brother lifted the spraygun Brian knew he wanted thier conversation to end. So Brian left and busied himself with another car even though he had plenty more questions. He had noticed how Jack was evading the answer to what she had done. Worried he screwed off a tire and exchanged it for a new one. The old one had been busted beyond repair because the owner had kept driving on the rim. He typed up the invoice and waited for Jack to finish the paint job so they could talk some more. When he was finally done with the thorough work Brian stepped behind him and nodded. "Good job, looks like new."

"Yeah, that was the whole idea behind it." He snorted while he took the mask off and checked out his work himself. No drips, nothing. Good, it only needed to dry now, maybe polish the whole Evo up a bit afterward and she'd be nice and shiny all over again. Until the next thing that was. If he didn't have bad luck with women, he had bad luck with cars.. but he still wouldn't dream of a life without either, even if the former would make it a whole lot less complicated.
"You got done what you needed to get done?" He mumbled while he walked passed Brian to put the gear back where he had found it. It was an easy excuse not to continue their earlier conversation like Brian clearly wanted to, and he made it even easier on himself when he walked outside soon after. Fresh air, right? Not that he would get much with his smoking habit. His hand reached down his pocket, pulling out the all too familiar carton. He had one lit up within seconds, taking in a long drag and soaking up the nicotine, but it didn't have the same relaxing effect on him anymore. It hadn't for a long goddamned time.

"Yeah got it done." Damn it, Jack simply walked past him and then left the garage. For a moment Brian wondered whether he sould really play the desperate hound and follow him outside but he would only smash his fist into the wall if he didn't. "Got one for me?" Brian was nervous, desperate, worried, all at the same time. "Shit, bro, can you just tell me what she did last night? Throw me a bone, please. I need to know what's going on.She know you're my brother and we talk, okay? What happened?"

Jack blew out a big puff of smoke, leaning his back against the wall before he glanced at Brian. He should have known he would have followed him outside. Eh, nothing he could do about that now. Wasn't exactly like he had a choice waiting here.
"Sure." He mumbled while he handed the pack and a lighter over, rolling his eyes only a second later. Really? This again? He understood his brother was worried, but damn, he really didn't know any more than Brian did about what was going.. anywhere if he wanted to be exact.
"If it makes you feel better, she wasn't throwing her panties at any guys, nor writing her phone number on any beer coasters, ok? She just drank.. a lot."

Brian didn't know Mia as a girl to throw her panties around and was almost offended by the suggestion but she was one hell of a hot chick and guys were all over her. He bit his lip. "I know she wouldn't do that. I'm actually glad you were there to fend off those guys who just don't want to take no for an answer." He lit the cigarette and blew out the first cloud of smoke. Then he counted the stones below his feet. "I just don't know what to do. She acted like everything was alright for almost two years and suddenly she blows up and throws everything in my face literally everything. I just don't want to loose her and Tyler."

"Oh, so now you're glad, huh?" He shook his head, smirking slightly. One moment he couldn't do shit right with his brother and the next Brian was actually glad for taking his wife out, even if it was the other way around really.. But he didn't want to feel like a damned girl.
"I think you just need to start realizing it didn't happen to only you. It happened to all of us, man.. She probably doesn't know how to deal and you keep reminding her of that." He mumbled, taking another drag from his cancer stick before he rubbed a hand over his tired face. Deep conversations weren't for him, giving advice.. or whatever it was to be called, even less. He sure as hell wasn't in the position to give any. If anything, he destroyed relationships rather than mend them, whether he wanted to or not.

Somehow this sentence about Mia not knowing what to do sounded very familiar. Was she that good at pretending? She seemed like she knew exactly what she was doing. "No, man. I've asked her and she keeps insisting she's fine. Heck, your girlfriend at least admits that's something wrong. She actually talks to me but just yells insults!" He mimiked Jack and blew the smoke out of his nose. Somehow it seemed to calm him down to watch it travel up to the sky and dissapear. "Sure everybody has their bundle to carry but way take it out on somebody else? If she wants help she should just say it not pretend she's okay."

"And exactly when did Faye talk to you?" He glanced at Brian, raising an eyebrow. Everybody seemed to be talking with everybody while he was still being kept in the dark about most things. That was just.. splendid really.
"You know what? Never mind, man. It's like talking to a brick wall with you and you just keep going in circles.." He grumbled, his voice sounding a little more aggravated than it had been before. He took one last drag before he flicked the cigarette away and pushed himself from the wall. He'd rather be soaking up paint waft, maybe fuck up his brain a bit more by doing so, than listen to any more of this 'poor me' from his brother. If he was really lucky though, the paint would have dried long enough by now for him to get out of here.
