Nicholas Jacobs stared up at the FBI headquarters with a deep set frown. He took another long drag of his cigarette and tossed it to the ground, not bothering to snuff it out. "Fuck..." he groaned, running a hand down his face in an attempt to make his head stop hurting.
He had drunk to much last night- it was his going away party. How the hell was he supposed to say no to the stripper with the double D's who called him "Daddy"? He wasn't; he was just supposed to live with the hangover that he brought on himself and continue on with his life. He groaned again as another sharp pain shot through his head. This was going to be a long day.
"So you're Jacobs? Nicholas, right?"
"Chase." Chase all but growled. He might as well get it out in the open now, while people were getting used to him. After all the weird looks he had recieved on the way in and the glare his boss had sent him when he walked in, he knew it was going to difficult fitting in here.
Fine by him, he was out of here as soon as he could figure out how.
The chief grunted a response, rolling his eyes as he picked up the phone. He dialed a few numbers and let it ring twice before someone picked up. Chase looked around the room, already ready to take another cigarette break. "Yeah, send O'Conner in here."
Chase cut his eyes back to the older man, already knowing he wasn't going to like who the man was bringing in. If this guy thought that he was going to be saddled with some goody-two shoes suck-up, he was sadly mistaken.

Brian had a f**er of a day. he was on his third cup of coffee now trying to keep him from thinking about Dom in jail and a gang on the look-out for him and his brother. It didn't work. Just made him jumpy as hell. The boss calling him in unexpectedly didn't make it any better. Brian scratched the scabs on his face, curtesy of Angel and his 'friends', loosened his tie and looked to the big man's office. Inside he spotted an unfamiliar figure. Taking one last sip of the coffee he stood up and walked over to the glass door, knocked and pocked his head in. "Sir?" Curiously he eyed the guy inside for a splitsecond. Didn't look like FBI, didn't look like a regular cop, no internal affairs. The man looked like straight out of a women's magazine.

The chief waved his hand, motioning for Brian to come inside. "Get in here, O'Conner."
Fuck.
Chase eyed "O'Conner" as he joined them, looking him up and down. He looked like he'd recently been mashed through a cheese grater- curtesy of an FBI operation no doubt. He looked jumpy and nervous, maybe like he hadn't slept in a few days? Chase was not looking forward to learning why.
"O'Conner, meet Jacobs, you're new partner. He just transfered in, so you'll have to teach him the ropes around here." The boss nodded across the hall, "He's moving into Richard's old office beside yours, so show him where to put his stuff."
Apparently O'Conner hadn't been told about this arrangement either. Chase gave his "partner" a blank stare, trying to ward him off from getting too friendly. He didn't think it was going to work, but he wasn't going to be the first one to introduce himself and get acquianted. He couldn't care less about this guy.

That was a lot of information to take in so fast. New partner? Brian didn't even pay attention to the guy yet. He just eyed his boss with disbeleive. "Why do I get a new partner. I already have Trinh. we get along really well."
His boss just huffed. "Our little Miss is not a field agent. At least not yet. We brought agent Jacobs on board for the Braga case. You look like you could use some backup out there."
Brian looked at the guy, who gave him the stare down, and shook his head. "With all due respect but Angel is not going to buy that he is a ..." he cut himself off. "he looks..." he cut himself off again because he didn't want to insult the guy before he had even said hello.
"Cut the crap, O'Conner. He's your new partner. Now get out!"
Brian raised his eyebrows and then turned to the other guy. Trying to be nice he held out his hand. "Well, I guess we're parnters then. I'm Brian."

Shit, the other guy was already trying to make excuses so he didn't have to do anything for him. Worked fine for Chase, maybe they would get along better after all.
Trying to avoid being yelled at anymore, Chase and Brian left their boss's office. No sooner had they gotten out, Brian introduced himself. Great. He tried to keep from rolling his eyes, ignoring the hand offered to him. "Chase. Where do you smoke around here?"
He looked around the room, noticing a few women here and there, none of them too terribly spectacular to look at. He mentally cursed, hoping that the day got better as time went on. He turned back to Brian, waiting for an answer.

Brian stood up straight in front of him. "You don't!" He simply stated. What kind of a jackass didn't shake an offered hand?
"You've only been here 5 minutes and already have your own office, huh?" He eyed him a little aggressively. For some reason coffee made him want to pick a fight. Or maybe it was his new 'partner' He pointed down the hallway. "Second door on the right. The ladies bathroom is right next to it in case you have a week bladder." then he flashed him a smile. "Nice to meet you, Jacobs. It'll be fun working together." He turned around to get another coffee.

Chase tried to keep the disdain out of his voice. He really did try. Only after his going away party, the hangover from Hell, and this prick getting assigned as his partner, he was really weak on the respectful front. "What do you mean we don't? Nobody smokes in this hell hole?"
He took Brian's comment as being impressed. Chase shrugged, "What you don't have your own?" He wasn't going to mention that he had requested his own office since he had one back at his old precent. It gave him a place to sleep during the day without his boss noticing...
"Ladies bathroom?" Chase raised an eyebrow, trying to figure out if it was Brian's way of insulting him. He felt insulted, but he didn't know if that was his craving for nicotine or something else.
He nodded toward the coffee machine and Brian. "Why don't you get me a cup there too, O'Conner, and you can fill me in on this... Braga case?" Not that he wanted to get down to business right away, but without any hot girls around to flirt with, he was exceedingly bored.

Brian just had to laugh at the man. "Get you a coffee? What am I your office bunny?" He somewhat appreciated a guy that he could do some bantering with. So he walked to the machine, put his used cup underneath it and poured himself another one. "No, we're not allowed to smoke in this shithole but we beat each other up, shoot the bad guys and drink lots of coffee." He waited for Chase to get himself a coffee and gave Trinh, who came tp grab one as well, a smile.
"That's my new partner for the Braga case since you're not going out and about yet. I still love you though." Trinh smiled back with a smile sweet as sugar. She knew how to take Brian and liked him a great deal. "Oh, don't make me jealous." She offered her hand to the new good looking man. She was blessed with a lot of handsome colleagues she thought to herself. "Hi, I'm Sophie."

Chase mumbled a few choice words under his breath and walked to the coffee machine to get himself a cup. The smell made his stomach sick, but he ignored it for the need of the caffiene. It still made his head hurt at the thought of not smoking... he was hoping the fire alarms weren't strong enough to pick up the smoke, because he had a distinct feeling that he would be breaking that rule sooner rather than later.
Chase ignored Brian banter with another collegae and took a long drink of the black coffee. It burned, it hurt his stomach, and he was sure his stomach would reject it, but he was so glad for the energy that rushed through him. He lowered his glass and noticed the asain girl that Brian was talking to. Hello... Maybe this office wasn't as condemned as he thought it was.
Chase quickly took her hand, putting on his best smile. "Chase Jacobs. It's nice to meet you..." He kissed her hand, laying on all the charm he could muster. "I hope I'm not trespassing on your work in this case, Miss Trinh. I'd hate to make such a pretty enemy on my first day..."

While Trinh was visibly delighted with getting her ass powdered by the smart talker Brian shook his head. "Save it, Casanova."
he gulped back another cup of coffee as if it was beer and frowned at the unexpected negative turn the already neagtive day had taken. "So where are you from and what are you doing here again?" He didn't understand why Stasiak's backup wasn't enough. Maybe this guy was from Internatl Affairs. Maybe it was time to watch his back a little more than usually. His boss granted him lots of leeway but possibly he'd gone a bit too far.

"Casanova, he says." Chase laughed, kissing Trinh's hand again. "Sounds like work is calling. I'll catch up with you later, and maybe you could show me around town?" Chase winked at Trinh and turned back to Brian.
He waited until Trinh was out of hearing range before he answered. "New York mostly. And why is none of your business." He wasn't going to admit that he didn't settle anywhere well or that no one could keep him with a partner for very long- Brian would figure that out soon enough.

None of my business. 'Great' Brian thought. What a good start. Aparently the guy didn't want to work very closely together. The frown on his face just got deeper when he led Chase to his new office and went inside. He sat down on the desk and motioned for Chase to close the door. "That's your new playground. So about Braga. The man ran a big illegal import/export business from here to Mexico and back. He hired street racers to transport the stuff for him and then killed them so they couldn't talk. We recently captured him and put him behind bars but the product keeps coming and swamping our streets causing a big problem. We have cause to beleive that a local gang is involved and keeps Bragas business running. The head of the gang is in the same prison as Braga. So we've just managed to get an in into the gang. That's how we're planning to take down the key figures that are still on the outside." Brian got up and looked out the window. The bright blue sky and sunshine, that was reflected by the windows of the opposite building, didn't match his mood at all. "I really don't know how you fit into the game, though. Maybe you can just take a stroll down the beach and check out the bikini babes but then again maybe you don't even own a bathing suit since you're from NY!"

Chase listened to the entire story without flinching, but his frown was deep set in by the time Brian was finished talking. He shook his head, running his hand down his face. What a time to be transfered in... this actually sounded like he would be doing a lot more work than he thought was in store for him. Brian's last idea did sound more his style- "Yeah, maybe I will do that."
He shrugged, leaning back in the chair. Not bad, it was a little uncomfortable but he would have settled for anything other than standing up. "So who's your in on the gang?"

"It's a guy named Angel Martinez. I ran a search on him...wasn't hard. He's got a pretty impressive record. It's a wonder he's not behind bars yet. All charges have always been dropped. Martinez is pretty high up in ranks. He had me and my brother work with him the other night."
Brian thought about how Chase could be helping him and Jack but the only thing he could come up with was to go and get him more coffee.
"How could you help with catching the big dogs of the gang and the Braga cartell? What are you good at?" He squinted trying to seize the man up. Maybe he could go undercover if some underwear modell was in trouble but other than that?

"Angel, huh? Sounds like a real charmer." Chase rolled his eyes, trying to fight off another headache that seemed to be pounding on his temples. He leaned forward again, looking Brian over.
He didn't look like much, but if he was already inside on the gang activity. What was Chase doing here? He wasn't planning on helping this guy anymore than he was required to, which meant.
Chase snorted, leaning back again. "Looks like I'm doing the paperwork."

"Looks like it." Brian said in a very calm, serious tone while insight he was screaming. "Oh yeah! I finally found an idiot to do my paper work!" He nodded at the guy and turned to leave. "Well, I gotta go. I'll keep you posted...or maybe Trinh will." On his way out of Chase' office he just shook his head. What a jack-ass. Why did he have to be assigned to him out of all the people?

Brian was obviously excited that Chase had volunteered to do that paperwork. It was water off of his back, really- he would probably put it off until Brian did it or Brian forced Chase to do it later. Really, him do paperwork?
"You'd better let Sophie keep me posted." Chase chuckled, not minding that Brian offered to stay away from him. Hell, he'd chose a hot girl like Trinh over this blue eyed creep any day.
He watched Brian leave and rolled his eyes to the ceiling, reaching for his cigarettes. Jack-ass.
