Brian noticed how she moved away from him and placed his bottle on the night side table as well. "Okay, let's keep our germs then." He sat there on the bed frozen in his position in order not to brush up against her any more. "Am I making you uncomfortable?" Once they were so close and Brian could swear they still had a connection. It was strange to not be able to hold her.

She was glad he placed the bottle on the night side table. "Don't want to make you sick that's all," LIAR!! Of course she felt uncomfortable. To be alone with the guy, it wasn't like a few years ago where she wouldn't mind placing her head on his shoulder as he kissed her head. It felt strange not being able to kiss him, to feel his lips on top of hers, to feel his hands caressing her back. to feel...him.

Brian shook his head. If she was worried about getting him sick he could assure her that his health was pretty steady. So he scooted closer again and put his arm around her back. "Don't very. I hardly ever get sick. Strong immune system." He caressed her back. "So how are you getting along back in LA? Is life what you want it to be? Sort of?"

His hand was warm, but it didn't feel good. Why couldn't she accept his touch without having her heart telling her it was painful. "Sort of. Life's not the same but is not bored either," She started to cough and stood up to take some water. It helped to stop the contact. She went back and sat on the sofa Brian was "asleep" a few hours ago. "Brian, what do you plan to do after taking care of all this mess?" A way for her to continue the conversation without having him question her about her sudden move. Because the truth was she was avoiding any physical contact... a little out of character for Mia to do, always so warm and kind, and now somehow a little cold and distanced.

Again Mia moved away from him. So brian had his suspicions that she wasn't simply worried about giving him a cold. Most likely it had to do with his girlfriend. Mia was trying to do the right thing and make it easier for both of them. Inwardly Brian sighed. He longed for her touch, her familiar way to brush up against him but he accepted what she was doing. "Somehow I don't think I can sort it all out but if I'll ever be able to go back to the states I'll probably move back to Cali- somewhere on the ocean and live of something other than being a cop. It's simply getting too dangerous." He pause and looked at her. "What about you? When are you going to start living again?"

She sighed "The ocean sounds like a good place to be right now," She half smiled. "What about me? Well... I'll go back to California too, I have things to do..." she looked at him not giving any more explanations removing the pony tail she had letting her hair fall down her back like a waterfall.

It wasn't hard to sense her discomfort so Brian finally sighed and asked. "Why are you acting like this, Mia? Is it the fact that I have a girlfriend?" Mia had this air of disappoinment like Brian had done something wrong. Her searched her face and almost thought he could see her eye twitch.

"Acting like what? Just because I decided to move away from you, is that it?" her voice was raised just a little but managed to control herself. "What do you want me to do? What do you want me to say, Brian?" it was more a plea than a question. "It's not the fact that you--" she sighed.
She understood he had a new life and accepted that, what she couldn't accept or understand was how he was expecting her to share what she had for her future after him. Maybe she was overreacting but at the end of the day their paths were never going to be the same.

What did he want her to say? That was a very legit question. Deep down her wanted her to say that she wanted him back, that she had made a mistake when she pushed him away but with mira being pregnant he just couldn't think that way. "Let me take a guess. Somewhere in the back of your mind you had a fantasy of us having a child together one day...back when we were still together but then I went and messed it all up because Letty got shot." Where did that just come from? It seemed like all the penned up frustration from months had just exploded in the completely wrong direction-Mias.

Her eyes grew wide hearing each and every word Brian was saying. A child... it wasn't a fantasy. It was something she always wanted with him. Her eyes filled with tears but didn't shed one. "I know you are expecting for me to say that I want you back, and that it was my fault I'll let you go," she took a chair and placed it in front of him, she sat down and leaned so that her face was inches from his.
She sniffed as she focuse her attention to her ex. "Yes, it was my fault I'll let you go." she sobbed silently. "You're so right Brian. I want you back so much, not only I came here to help you but also to see if there was still something there," placing her hand over his heart and removing it. "But things changed and as much as I love you... I can't have you back," a tear fell on his leg and she stood up walking out of the room.

Her words hit him deep down inside. His closeness and openess. She was saying the words he had longed to hear so much for a very long time and he couldn't deny the feeling he still had for her as well. When she told him that she still loved him but simply couldn't he froze and watched her walk away. Out of all the times she came back now that he had a girlfriend and a child on the way. All he could do was let his head and sigh. "Shit!"

She wasn't sure where she was going at this point or how dangerous it was out there. She had to calm down and unfortunatelly go back and again he didn't stop her just like when she was in that cafe with Brian in California. She knew how he felt before she left the cafe and she was a 100% sure he was feeling the same way if not worse the moment she decided to leave. "That's not what I thought it was going to happen..." she whispered to the wind walking slowly thorugh the quiet street.

For a moment Brian sat in silence at in the hotel room staring at the wall and searching his feelings. He couldn't help that he still had feelings for Mia and despite the fact that it gave him some satisfaction that she regretted kicking him to the curb it still didn't help their situation. Even if he didn't have any feelings he wouldn't have let her walk around outside at night with a fever.
So he grabbed his shirt, pulled it over his head and jogged down the stairs, where he looked around to see where Mia had gone. To the left he spotted a girl with long dark hair in a pony tail which could have been her so he ran down that road and shouted her name when he was close enough. "Mia, wait!" When he reached her he touched her arm to make her turn around. "C'mon, Mia. You're sick."

She was starting to calm down at the same time hated she didn't have control over her emotions. she regretted not having a sweater with her, her being sick getting out just like that even if the weather was warm at night to her it felt damn cold and tears that were starting to dry on her cheeks didn't help either.
She heard his voice calling her but didn't stop until he touch her arm making her turn around. She quickly dried her tears. "I'm fine," removing her arm so that he wasn't touching her. She wanted to get out of his life, she wasn't expecting to reveal to him she still love him and somehow she knew he was aware of that.

It was clear that Mia wasn't fine but Brian didn't voice his opinion. he would only make things worse if he did. So he stepped closer and looked into her tear streaked face. Out of reflex he wiped the remainder of a tear from her chin. "I'm sorry." Searching for the right words to express how he felt he settled for. "I wish things were different." In reality he wanted to say. 'I wish you hadn't pushed me away. I wish we'd never broken up' but he bit back that bit of uncomfortable truth. Pressing his lips together he frowned but then stated in a soft tone. "I can't hurt her, Mia. She doesn't deserve it. She's been nothing but good to me and I have feelings for her..." It was too late to stop the rambling now so he decided to tell her everything. "Mira used to be my partner on this case and we've only been together for a short while when she got pregnant. I can't tell you whether I love her because I don't know...but I can tell you that I'm in love if that makes any sense." he lowered his gaze because he simply couldn't look her in the eye when he spoke those painful words.

So, he was in love but didn't know if he loved Mira? That was new. "I'm not expecting for you to leave Mira." Why was he sharing all this with her? What good did it make for her? It didn't help the situation at all. "What I do know is that I cannot no longer stay here with you. I just can't-- I'm so sorry," walking back to the hotel room to get all of her items.

So that was the reason why she was upset and now leaving? Brian blinked a few times into the dark empty alley, then turned on his heel to follow Mia. At the elevator he caught up with her and touched her arm lightly. "Wait, where are you going to, Mia? It's the middle of the night. Just stay here. I'll go." He walked her to the room but at the door he held the knob in his hand and asked. "What did you expect to find here?"

Why couldn't he let her go? Why couldn't he stop asking more and more questions? That was a good damn question she didn't even know where she was going other than back to the states, and how she was going to get there? She didn't give a damn either.
Her attitude was out of place, she could handle the mess, she could handle the adrenaline of running from the law with him just like old times but she wasn't expecting to see him with a family, she had in mind to come to Tokyo and talk things thorugh and start over but she decided to step into his life without having a clue of how and where he was in his life right now. "No, you stay here," she pushed the door a little. She was pissed off with herself for being so careless, so naive to think everything was going to be ok and they were going to be happy again...

Brian could sense that Mia was angry. her whole posture and tone gave it away. "No, don't, Mia." He let go of the door but followed her inside. "You're sick. please go to bed and I'll sleep on the couch and then, if you still want to, you can leave in the morning." He was hoping sincerely she'd listen to him because he'd be so worried if she ran out into a dark night in a foreign country. "C'mon, Dom would want you not to run around Tokyo at 3 am."

He was worried. She could sense that but to spend another night, it was torture for her. "Don't you dare mention Dom," She was almost done, forget the time, forget the danger she was out of there. She took her small suitcase and open the door.
