If there was a time she hated Jack it was right there, after her fourth night shift, and today she had pulled a double, she was dead on her feet, the only good thing about working the night shift no one tended to even consider coming to the café and she got paid double time, it was really good she loved him. Sighing she wiped down the tables for the fifth time within the space of ten minuets. It was annoying and boring, and god she just wanted to go home and get some sleep.
Licking her lips she let out a breath and checked the clock an hour till closing, an hour or less until Jack picked her up. Throwing the cloth on the counter she went about placing the chairs on the tables for pretty much most of the café, leaving only three tables set up for anyone to use….not that any one would need them.
Swallowing she moved to the counter and poured herself a drink….it had been a long day. The bell above the door jingled and she lifted dark eyes….apparently just getting longer.

Walter always planned ahead, it was what made him good at what he did especially now, first introduce yourself to your enemy in this case Jack, then introduce chaos into the subjects life. Walking into a past aquantices life and bringing pain to her and him this was going to be fun. Especially when that aquantice had a few great nights while he was on trial. He looked out the window of his car and adjusted the suit he was wearing, the faded grey against white with a striped red and black tie made him look like an accountant just coming from the office. He held the daily news folded in his hand and pushed the door open slowly. He deliberately walked past her, his sleeve brushing her back lightly. He could smell her, her taste in perfume hadn't changed much but underneath it he could smell the hard days work that she'd put in already, punk like Jack didn't deserve somone that worked this hard.
Keeping his steely reserve he slid into the chair closest to the door and began to look at the paper, a mock act of reading it while he took note of the diner and everything in it. Once she recognized him, she'd know why he was here, it would be on him to de-escalate the situation.

The light was a little to dim to figure out much about the person who had entered other then it was a man and he was on his own, so instead of trying to figure out anything else she went back to the job of putting up the chairs and then wiping them down. A brush of a sleeve brushed over her back and she furrowed her brow, dark eyes sparkling as she turned slowly, dark locks of hair framing her tired face, she recognised that smell. Licking her lips she finally found him, sitting on one of the lone tables near the door, there was a paper in his hand but that was all for show, of course it was, guys like him didn’t read.
Letting out a breath she turned quickly away from him. Before she had arrived in Miami her boss at one of the law firms had represented him, he had given her the honour of sitting in on the trial, doing the small things that needed doing and he was to busy to do, it had given her quiet a lot of said time with the man now sitting only feet away from her.
Swallowing she tried to compose herself, trying desperately not to connect dots that were already forming. Forcing a smile to cross her face she moved over towards him, having left the cloth on the previous table, she wiped her hands down her apron.
Sliding in the seat which was opposite him, tired dark eyes lifted to meet the man in front of her, “What are you doing here” She stated, the nervous edge to her tone was more then apparent, and she forced another smile to try and cover it.

"Well I was going to have a coffee but I think I'll have whatever you can make me." He smiled lightly, there was an attitude behind her words. It was an accusation as much as it was a question. "You look amazing Faye, a bit worn out." Slowly he reached out and brushed stray hairs from her face, tucking it behind her ear. He had turned his charm up as he let his thumb lag behind the rest of his hand and slowly drifted it across her cheek. The key to this job was reining in his emotions, right now he walked a razor's edge because he could feel his heart flutter for a moment as he drew his hand away. "Sorry about that," He brought his hand back to the paper and looked around swallowing harshly, "How about some water for the two of us?"

She swallowed, dark eyes sparkling and cheeks flushing ever so slightly, even after two years he still had that affect on her. With a deep breath she smiled, this time it wasn’t as forced as the other one more genuine “Yea been pulling doubles, and college in the day, kinda draining”
A startled breath left her lips as his hand reached across the table brushing a loose strand of hair around her ear, his thumb lingering a little to long. Dark eyes dropped from his, feeling so open and exposed in front of him, almost two years and now he was back, the why lingered in the back of her mind. With a tight smile she nodded her head, “Water, yea” Licking her lips she pushed herself from the table and headed in the back, trying to keep her composure.
Drawing her lower lip between her teeth she reached into the fridge, pulling free two water bottles, then took a second to breath. To simply allow herself to think, she couldn’t believe he was back, in her life, in her place of work and she couldn’t believe the nerves, the worry.
Swallowing she smiled and headed back to the front, still smiling she slipped back into her seat, dark eyes working over his face, god he still looked as good as he did before. Pushing the bottle over towards him she smiled, “Nearly two years” She stated softly she could feel her heart hammer beneath her chest, “still looking as good as you did back then” Laughing softly she shook her head, “SO you gonna tell me why you’re here?”

"I try to stay in shape as best I can, run a lot. I got relocated down here because of the case you sat in on. The mob's think I'm dead and got put down here in a makeshift witness protection." He sipped at the cold water an leaned across the table, "You look good Faye, real good." He leaned closer and ran his hand over her's tenderly. "What time do you get off, I mean this place is so livid right now but when it dies down..." He started sarcasticly.

Faye furrowed her brow, she was still uncertain, she couldn’t shake the feeling, but she tried to brush it of the best she could, he had never once lied to her, always had been open and honest, she doubted he would stop now, but then again, if he had taught her anything it was that you could never be to careful, and the best thing for you to do was trust your instincts.
His hand brushed over hers and a soft sigh fell from slightly parted lips, dark eyes fluttering at the contact, her heart skipping a beat instantly. With a breath she swallowed, and slipped her hand from under his. Licking dry lips she smiled, chuckling slightly. “In about 45 minuets” With a slightly tight smile she turned her own attention to her drink “Maybe earlier, depending on how bored Jack gets” Drawing her lower lip between her teeth she looked over at him. “So, you’re a free man now huh, or as free as a guy like you gets”

"You know me too well," He smiled innocently, "I'm free until there's another job, sometimes you just need some vacationing money." With the open ended statement lingering in the air Walter leaned back in his seat and eyed her up and down. "How about you? Are you still free?" He raised an eyebrow and draped his arms over the seat behind him.

Faye eyed the man before her, he looked exactly the same as he had back in the day, and that was the problem, she could already feel the effect he was having on her, swallowing her dark eyes lowered for a moment you didn’t get involved with guys like him, not inless you were stupid, she had been stupid once before, she couldn’t afford to be so again. Swallowing she tipped her head to the side, finally looking back up at him, her dark eyes sparkling.
His question made her sigh, before she finally answered, “I haven’t been free for a while” She stated softly, shifting in her seat, licking her lips she smiled, “But apparently that bad luck just keeps on following me” Her gaze shifted over to the clock, she couldn’t wait to put this shift behind her.

"So, what's his name?" He leaned back in feeling slightly annoyed that he couldn't get comfortable, "If you want I can always just go rough him up if he isn't treating you the way you should be." His smirk was genuine as his hand cupped the other infront of him making a platform for his head to rest. He was going to hate himself later for using her like his but to him he always had to stop his life to do his job.

A soft laugh fell from her lips at his words, there was a part of her that felt guilty for not waiting, but she had waited long enough, her and Joker they never technically ended, after that night she knew he had survived but that was it, there had been no other connection , no nothing, she had waited hoping he’d come back but there was nothing.
“His name is Jack” The name slipped from her lips softly gaze lowering ever so slightly her head tipping to the side before she brought her gaze back up towards him, “Hes treating me fine Joker” Just fine she thought her gaze shifting back over towards the clock. Biting the inside of her lips she let out a breath, finish time and no Jack, chuckling dryly to herself she pushed herself upwards.
“I gotta close up” She muttered pushing away from the table removing her water and moving around so she could lock the door putting up the closed sign , resting against the door for a moment. “You never came back for me Joker” She stayed looking at the door not being able to bring herself to lok at him.

Walter had a small cringe to his eye as he looked over at her. "I wanted to Faye." He looked back at his drink, "I should have known that they wouldn't let me just walk out and tell their secrets to the world." He leaned forwards again and placed his elbows on his knees interlacing his fingers. "If I had came back to you they would have used you to get to me and more then likely killed you. I had to make sure they knew it was a bad idea to keep coming after me, it wasn't worth the money to keep it up." He knew that she understood but that didn't make the pain she felt any less, he barely could keep the hatred out of his voice.

Faye sighed shaking her head at him, she still had her back to him, but she didn’t need to look at him, to know the look on his face. Swallowing she finally turned towards him, swallowing she heaved in a deep breath and her dark eyes found him. “Its not like I was safe” She stated with a small shrug of her shoulders, “I was always out in the open, they came for me more then once, hoping I knew where you were” She licked her lips sighing an then turned from him again..
Her steps took her around the diner, picking up the chairs, wiping down the tables and then placing the chairs on top of the table. She was trying to keep herself busy, stopping herself thinking about what they had, had and what they had almost had. Sighing she let out a breath finally pulling the apron from around her waist and taking it out back.

Walter moved quickly and violently as he followed her out of the shop. "Faye, listen. You know I was telling you the truth every time I said I will always love you and damnit I'll tell you that till the end of time." He rushed after her and stopped shaking slightly as he surpressed his anger again, "I'm sorry that I was attached to all that shit, I should have known you would be in danger and I can't take that back" He was blurring the lines now between his job and his emotions, it was a dangerous ploy. He chose his next words carefully, "But I'm here now...I came to find you, to see if we could start again..."

Her heart pounded in her chest. This, it was not meant to happen. He was not meant to come back into her life and god damn it she was not supposed to feel everything she had felt the day he had almost proposed to her. Swallowing his words made her jaw clench. She had loved hearing those words spilling from his lips. But now god now they just irritated, irritated her because he had come back and she hadn’t waited. She felt guilty and hateful.
His words made her sigh and slowly she turned to face him, her dark eyes sparkling. “Its been years and now you want to try again” She whispered with a shake of her head. Sighing she lent against the wall looking up at him with pain in her eyes. “God you have no idea how long iv waited for you to come back into my life, but now” A sigh fell from her lips.

Once he saw that look in her eyes he knew it was tike to sink the knife the rest of the way. He would hate himself in the morning but he had a job to do and she hadn't waited for him. He let the anger pump onto his body and his breathing became sharp and deep. "Maybe you're right. It was a mistake to come here. Better off with they...Jack was his name? Yeah I'm sure Jack is a better Guy then me anyways letting you work a nine to five for minimum wage. Fuck him." He turned from her letting his words carry their weight and drive strait to the bone.

Faye furrowed her brow. She had seen him angry often, but it had never been directed at her, not like this. Swallowing her gaze lowered ever so slightly. Here was, once more with everything she had wanted stood right in front of her and he was walking away from her. Clenching her jaw she stormed after him, grabbing his arm tight enough to let him know she wasn’t letting him leave.
“You don’t get to do that, don’t get to come into my life again and then walk back out” Sighing she shook her head, “I work this job to keep a roof over my head, to keep me in school, it aint cheap you know that” Yes Jack helped, but what they both got went out just as quickly as it came. “You don’t get to walk out again” She whispered softly her dark eyes lifting up at him. Later she would be able to tell him about the job, but for now she was just glad he was there.

He could see something was in her eyes, she was conflicted about something. "Look, Faye...I'm sorry, been a bit stressed I shouldn't have snapped at you. Its not fair for me to judge him like that. Just...I wish I could make things right and I'm not going to try to break you up for my own gain." Finally a lie that tasted bad in his mouth. He had often wondered when that would happen. He hid his displeasure and started to ice his heart up again. It wasn't time to ruin her just yet, the seed of doubt had been planted and the two would talk he just had to reap the crop later. "I can't stay much longer its getting late and I need to make a few calls before bed. I lo...I mean I'm sorry." He blinked as he pulled her into his chest as a friendly hug. Did he just slip? Was that on purpose or accident? The thought bothered him.

Faye let out a breath as he apologised to her, a slow nod following, but her brow remained creased. She hadn’t for one second thought he would return to her life. She had made peace with that, or at least she thought she had. But now he was stood in front of her, stood there looking at her and everything god it felt wrong, like she had been living a lie and the truth was stood before her. “Jacks a good guy” She stated softly, but what she really wanted she wasn’t sure.
His words made her frown, but he corrected himself to soon, lowering her gaze she smiled tightly at him going with him willingly when he tugged her against his chest, god it felt good to be there again. Sighing she finally pulled away from him, her head tilting up to look at him. Pulling away quickly she blinked letting out a breath.
“I gotta finishing closing up and hope the bus is running on time considering Jack hasn’t shown up” Drawing her lower lip between her teeth she quickly ducked back into the main part of the café.
