Once again Brian made his way into the big, modern building downtown that the FBI had its headquarters in. Once again he was going to hand over his badge even if it was only a temporary one this time. He looked pretty weary because of the fight the day before, a lack of sleep and Mia giving birth. When he walked out of the elevator this time he at least didn't feel all eyes on him. Not this time. On his way by he squeezed Trihn's shoulder to say hello and made his way to the bosses office. He poked his head in. "You asked me to come by today." Attachments:

Nessa and her father were arguing, nothing new in that. There was nothing new in the subject matter either. He resented the fact she turned away from the FBI. How being a cheerleader wasn't a career, how she shouldn't live in LA. How she should pack up and head back to her mother in Washington.
It was typical and they were never going to see eye to eye. He just couldn't stand that he didn't have control of her anymore and she resented that he ever had control in the first place.
She tossed her hair over her shoulder and stomped her foot. No matter what he thought about it this was her life. She#d be damned if he got his claws into it again. Rolling her eyes at a comment about settling down and children. He would not like it one bit if he even thought Leon was back on the scene. Daddy never did think he was good enough for his little girl but then no one was good enough for daddy's angel.
Nessa: The best thing that ever happened to me was walking out of this job. I'm not coming back why do you have to do this every time we speak. Why can you never just be happy for me?
The door pushed open cutting the vivacious brunette off mid rant as a blonde male poked his head round the door.
Brian: You asked me to come by today?
Marco Lopez: Yes please have a seat, Vanessa we'll finish this conversation at dinner tonight 8 oclock at Romanos.
Nessa smirked at her father, flipping him off she rolled her eyes.
Nessa: Actually i have plans for tonight, good luck O'Connor your gonna need it he's PMSing like a bitch

The woman's tone of voice and her attitude totally caught brian off guard. He looked at her with big eyes and then stepped toward the grey haired man behind the desk.
"Am I interrupting something? I can wait outside."
Obviously this was a bad moment.
Brian knew he had seen the woman around a while ago. So he simply assumed she was an agent who was about to get fired.

Ice blue eyes raked across the blonde before shaking her head. The shake causing some of the hair to fall across her face. Rose lips parted slightly her face flushed because of the heated argument.
The grey haired spanish looking man appeared completely cool as though he had completely disregarded anything his little girl had said. His face his typical mask of calm, Nessa always felt the need to test just to see if he really was human or if her father was some kind of emotionless robot.
Marco: No O'Connor, Vanessa was just leaving to rearrange her plans for tonight. I will see you at 8 child.
Nessa: I'll rearrange my plans right after i tell mom about Tori.
That was the one thing Vanessa would forever hold over her father. They both knew she'd never tell her mother because the womans weak heart couldn't take it but her father felt guilty none the less. he huffed out an explosive sigh as the young curvy brunette flounced out of the office. As the door slammed behind her he muttered.
Marco: children
After a few moments of glancing through the file on his desk Marco simply passed the file along to Brian and regarded him cooly waiting for his reaction.

Brian barely dared to look into the file. Hopefully it had something to do with Chris. After all that's what he was there for. That and to hand back his badge. "I'm just here to write my report on yesterday's events and then hand back my badge if that's all right with you, sir."
When the man didn't respond he hestitantly grabbed the file and opened it just to see a picture of a slightly older Carter Verone on the top sheet. Brian took a deep breath and looked up at the head of the FBI. "What's this?"

Marco surveyed the young man from his position behind the desk. watched the color drain out of his face as he laid eyes on the photograph of Carter Verone.
Marco: Consider it a friendly warning. This is what we currently know about Verone, well this and the fact he's likely to be coming after you and those close to you.
The elder man knew that O'Connor was a new father, he knew what it was like for your job to put those you loved at risk. He could sympathise with the blonde, even if Vanessa was difficult she would always be his little girl.
Marco: Ms Weston has been dealt with, however Mr Verone is in your area and is definitely still considered dangerous.

Brian flicked through the file with a frown that just got deeper. "For some reason I though he might be done breaking the law." The file said otherwise.
"So what now? Do I run and hide?My fiance gave birth today. She isn't even home yet!" The prospect of something else getting in the way of their happiness was making him more than a little upset.
His blue eyes darted up at the man hoping that he would have a solution.
"Is he currently wanted for anything?"

Marco was half minded to glare at the young temporary agent. If Carter Verone was wanted for anything they would not be having this conversation. Instead he hid all emotion behind his infallible calm mask and shook his head.
Marco: The man is like oil nothing sticks to him. He could be wanted for any number of things but he'd walk because we can't make it stick.
Before Brian could even register his disgust or concern Marco continued speaking.
Marco: If he comes after you and your friends however we may be able to make that stick. It'll carry a lot more weight with a judge if your still a federal agent. I'd suggest holding onto that badge a while longer O'Connor. Else i might have to charge you with being a vigilante if verone comes after you.
Marco wanted Brian onside, he knew it was low using the threat to his loved ones as leverage to keep him on the pay roll but damn it he was a good agent. Marco hadn't gotten were he was today by playing fair

Brian agreed that Carter was very sneaky and had his ways of getting out of things...except for jail. He didn't the like the sound of the man's next words at all. Angrily he thought. 'The feds always find a way of keeping me on staff no matter how badly I screw up, don't they?' He "I don't think that's a good idea. I don't want to work here any more. It's putting my family in danger. I think as an agent I'm even more a target than as a civilian."

The slight tick in the muscle in his cheek was the only evidence that he was beyond annoyed. Marco Lopez was not used to being told no, people who were subordinants where supposed to be subservient. His dark grey eyes flashed like cold steel the only outward signs of his irritation.
Marco: You don't think O'Connor that your already Carter Verones Target 1? You don't think that robbing the man of years of his life has put you at the top of his list? You can't get any higher up his list even if you hold a badge. You don't hold onto that badge then any action you take against him is illegal. You don't want your son to grow up without you do you?

His boss' words gave him goosebumps. Not only did Brian never want to leave Tyler alone but also was he terrified to go back to prison. He fully understood why Dom had once said that he wasn't going back there and Dom wasn't even a cop. Brian clenched his teeth but nodded. "Okay. You're right." He took a deep breath. "What does that mean though? Do I have to keep working on cases or do I just get to keep the badge in case Verone decides to follow me?" Brian knew he was gambling high but he was sick and tired of government institutions making use of him. "I'd just like to remind you that Ms Weston stabbed me in the shoulder. Shouldn't I be entitled for sick leave and workers' compensation?"

Marco ran a hand through his salt and pepper hair, raising a greying eyebrow at the younger man. When he was merely a government agent workers compensation was unheard of. Then again Marco had been working black ops, if he'd been caught then he was on his own. Brian didn't realise how easy he had it, he had the backing of the government and yet here he was asking for sick leave.
Marco: Just hold onto the badge, we'll give you four weeks paternity leave. Let you get adjusted to being a father, it's a big realisation getting to grips with the fact this child is completely dependant, you make the wrong choice and they suffer for it.
He spoke from experience on this one, when she was just five years old his little girl had been kidnapped by people looking to gain government information. His wife had been inconsolable, although no one saw it Marco had been terrified. Vanessa still bore the scar behind her ear as a permanent reminder.
Marco: We may occasionally ask something of you, but in return you'll have our backing when you need it. As for compensation, you may be entitled to criminal injuries compensation but as your contract states injury is one of the risks of this job any payout will be minimal. Criminal injuries on the other hand that could be quite substantial

Brian listened carefully to the man's words. The deal seemed good enough and he even felt a hint of understanding for his situation. He shuddered at the thought of somebody taking advantage of his new family situation though. Once again the thought of just running and hiding somewhere safe occured to him. Brian didn't care about getting a lot of money for being injured. Of course he knew what risks his job held. He did need some money to pay the bills though, which weren't small with all the expenses for their new born. "Thank you, sir. I appreciate the leave. You can reach me on my cell when you need to." He backed up and opened the door. "Could you please inform me on any news about Carter Verone?" Then he turned to leave.
The talk had gone pretty smoothly even though he was still on the government's payroll. Something he actually disliked because of all the trouble it had gotten him into.
