Writing reports was never fun nd this one sucked a lot because Brian had to decide how much of what actually happened at the stake out he would really put into it. If his partner was a good friend he'd cover him but Daniel didn't make a secret of dislinking Brian. Chewing on a pencil Brian grabbed the phone and dialled the FBI number in NY and asked to be put through to Daniels previous supervisor. It was quite the odysee until he finally got the man on the line and expalined that he was his new partner and had some issues with how Daniel handled things. "He doesn't talk about his time in NY so I was wondering whether you could give me some advice how to deal with my new partner." To his big suprise he found a few quite unpleasant things about Daniel's past in NY.
After he hung up he wondered what to do now and decided to have a chat with Daniel. "Hey partner, can you meet me on the corner of 6th and broadway in 15 minutes. I have some intel."

Daniel stood, waiting on the appointed corner with one buried in his pocket while the other held on to a plastic cup of coffee. He could only wonder what intel O'Conner had gathered without his knowing. Whether it was on Verone or any of his 'small' businesses. It irked him, but his expression was well hidden behind dark shades. Which another thing aside from his partner he didn't like about LA. The almost constant sunny weather, a clear contrast to NY's and especially this time of the year.
Taking the last sip of his coffee, he dumped the cup in a nearby trash can before he finally laid eyes on the blonde pain in the ass. It was about time he showed up.
"So what's this intel you were talking about? Better be good this time, O'Conner." He said in a none to pleased tone.

"Oh, it's good." Brian replied and took him aside into a narrow street little off the main road where they could talk in private. After what he had heard about his partner he had made sure to have his gun on him. He looked at him with a stern expression and leaned on the cold wall behind him. The alley was so narrow no sun hit the ground and shades definetly weren't necessary. "I just heard something about you that was pretty interesting. Apprently you didn't really leave NY on such good terms. The bureau there was really pleased to see you go. They already had internal affairs on your ass. Wanna tell me anything about that, partner?" he practically spat the last word out.

"What's left to tell? Sounds to me you already know everything." Daniel answered surprisingly calm for someone who should feel cornered. It didn't matter to him what dirt O'Conner thought he had found. Daniel still had something up his sleeve that would make his partner's bark a little less loud if necessary.
Pulling his shades from his face, he revealed semi-amused eyes. He loved the cat and mouse game. Especially if the mouse thought he was the cat.
"But now that you've seemed to have done some homework, and I have to say a little late, what's your point in all this?"

Daniel's cold eyes paired with his attitude gave Brian the creeps and pissed him off at the same time. raising his chin he answered. "Point is: Would you like to have internal affairs on your sweet butt here as well?"

"For what? Because you and I don't get along? I'm sorry O'Conner, but this isn't kindergarten and not all kids have to play nice with each other." Daniel said, smirking tauntingly at the blonde's attitude.

"Okay, just stop your bullshit." He snapped back angrily. "I've figured out by now that you don't play nice and what you did at the stake out wasn't by the rule book. If the boss knew he'd kick you out. That's not how we work. We aren't criminals but I'm starting to wonder wehther you are. Why did you want me out of the house? And don't think I'm stupid. I know you got something to hide."

His expression darkened considerably when it was Daniel's turn to snap. This guy had some nerve trying to tell him what was and wasn't in the rule book. Some things in life simply didn't go by any book. Two members, dead members, of his old team could confirm that, as well as his failed marriage because of his chosen career.
"First of all, I never told you to leave the house. It was your choice to take that other taco eater in to custody. And second, you think you know something?" He paused while his eyes moved over the man in front of him with barely hidden disdain. "Trust me, O'Conner. You don't."

"Why didn't you take the other one into custody, why just let him go?" Brian was sure that something was off about Daniel. he could put his finger on it but he was sure there was something. "I've done this job long enough to know how far you can go." His eyes narrowed."Ask to be taken off the case. I don't need you loose canon as my partner!"

"I told you. The guy was a dead end. You want to make yourself look like an ass by constantly bringing in dead ends?" Daniel growled, his index finger prodding in the blonde's chest. He was angry and it showed, but he had to keep some restrain. It was broad day light and this wasn't some street punk he was dealing with.
"And I will not ask to be taken off this case because my fucking partner can't handle the real world. Wait until you're on the receiving end of a gun's barrel. See if you still want to play by this book of yours, O'Conner." He spat, finally putting back some distance between them.

As if Brian hadn't been on the receiving end yet. Truth was he was worried that if he had a partner who was slightly on the illegal side he might get caught up in the same shit. His prison sentence might be dug up again and off he went. "Listen, fucker. I don't give a damn waht you want. You ask to be taken off my case or I'll tip our boss off why you left NY and that the file with your squeeky clean vest you showed him was a fake. Internatl will be on you in no time here as well." His blue eyes had taken the color of ice when he stared him in the face stepping a little closer.

"That's all great. But if I were you though, I wouldn't worry so much about me when you got your very own brother to worry about." Daniel said without any trace of a threat in his voice, smiling as he watched the emotions take turns on the blonde's face. It was clear the older one didn't know what the younger one had gotten himself in to nowadays. Daniel wasn't even sure if the kid knew it himself.
"See, unlike you I'm doing my job and I see past family when I do it. I know he's about to get himself in some deep shit. Actually, he's already wading in it." He clarified.

"What the hell are you talking about, you don't even know my brother!" Brian was sure this was some kind of a trick to get off the subject. "We're done here. Talk to the boss by the end of the day or I will." He pointed his finger at Daniel's fce who seemed little interested in his thread. They guy was cold as ice. No emotion, no flinching, nothing. Brian simply wanted to get rid of him s a partner. Briefly he wondered what he meant by Jack was in trouble. His brother was a trouble magnet after all

"O, I know your brother. Big mouth yet the kid has nothing to show for. Dangerous combination I might add." Daniel said, smiling amusingly at the finger in his face before it was moved aside. Whether O'Conner took his words or not, it was clear a seed had been planted by the flash of worry on the blonde's face.
"I do agree that we're done here though, O'Conner." He said calmly. He had no intention of dropping the case over some empty threats. Did the man really think the LA bureau didn't require the same intel when Daniel was transferred over from New York, it was FBI after all. Shame. On paper he truly had nothing to hide. It was what happened off paper that needed to stay that way.

The coldness in Daniel's eyes made Brian shudder. It was like he had nothing to loose. A very valuable character trait as an undercover agent but hard to cope with as a partner. In brian's book this was it. they weren#t partners an more, especially after bringing jack into the game. As much as he Jack was annoying Brian he was still his only brother and he loved him to bits. Once again he stared at Daniel. If the guy would ever hm Jack he'd loose it. He'd bust his face and everything attached to it. "You keep away from my brother. You stay away from me." With these words he turned around and left but his ears listened to every little sound. Daniel was not to be trusted-that was for sure. If the guy didn't ask to be taken off the case Brian would make sure he was off. After all the FBI knew his ties to Verone and needed him but they could easily put Daniel on a different case.
