Angel froze with his hand on the front door's knob. He turned towards Mia and offered her a reassuring smile, but really he was trying to reassure himself.
Behind that door was the epitome of him. His family. They were the driving force behind his actions on the street. They made him who he was.
After he had parted ways with Mia at the hospital entrance, he headed to the clubhouse. There he put out the word that his house was off limits to all members of the crew for the night.
After that, Angel headed home to break the news to his family. He hadn't brought a girl home in ages and they were ecstatic to hear that one was coming over for dinner. Then his mother proceeded to order him to clean the house, while she began to cook up a storm.
"Brace yourself," he said, knowing very well that his family could be overwhelming. Angel turned back towards the door and opened it, letting her enter his world.
At least this half.

Mia had been more than happy to see Angel's car parked outside the hospital when she got off that afternoon- like he promised, he was on time. They made it a short ride to the house, and Mia noticed that they actually lived a good bit away from each other.
No wonder we never ran into each other. She thought. She got out of the car when they arrived, looking down at herself with a frown. Now she wished she had dressed a little better than she had for work. Smoothing out some of the wrinkles in her outfit, she started to follow Angel into the house.
Mia nearly ran into Angel's back when he stopped suddenly in front of the door. She looked up and him, surprised and smiled when she saw how nervous he was. She tried to reassure him with her own smile; hell, his family couldn't be any worse than his right?
"I'm sure it will be fine." She didn't know if she was telling him that or herself. He opened the door for her and Mia took her first step inside his house, ready for the worst.

As he opened the front door, their senses were instantly assaulted by the loud kids, the even louder television and the aroma of his mother's home cooking. Angel couldn't help but smile, as all the little ones ran up to him and Mia, grabbing onto the bottom of their shirts, begging to pick them up.
He reached down and grabbed two of them- one for each arm. He turned towards Mia and smiled. "This little one here is Arianna and this little goof ball is Danny," he said, introducing her to two of his favorites.
Angel nodded towards the kitchen and began to walk towards it. "Come on, I'll introduce you to two most important things in my life," he said. He held his breath as he walked towards the kitchen, knowing full well that his mother and his daughter would be in there.

All the smells and voices warmed Mia's heart. She grinned, closing her eyes for just a second to take it all in. That didn't last long- as soon as she closed her eyes, she was being tugged and held on to by a big group of children. Her eyes brightened and she was sure she couldn't hide the grin as Angel picked up two of the little ones.
"Hi!" Mia giggled, waving to the little ones around her. She felt like a kid again, loving all the attention she got from them. It made her miss the little ones that she used to baby-sit when she was younger.
Angel took off for the kitchen and Mia followed him, quickly promising the children she would play with them later. "Two most important things?" Mia could remember him talking about his mother, but she couldn't remember any other mention of anyone. She dropped her gaze to his hand, relieved to see that his ring finger was ringless. But who was he talking about? She looked at him confused, hoping he'd explain.

As they entered the kitchen, Angel couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. The kitchen table was full of covered dishes as his mother stirred something on the stove. He found Alexa at the head of the table, setting out dishes.
She ran over to him, climbing on top of a kitchen table chair, meeting him eye to eye. They hugged briefly before his mother came over and threw an arm around him. Angel turned towards Mia and smiled.
"This is my mother, Diana, and my daughter, Alexa," he said. He held his breath, hoping that Mia wouldn't start screaming at the top of her lungs and run out of the house. Angel chuckled a little, at imagining Mia running away from his 5'1" mother.

Thank you so much for trucking through this with me! I'll be back to normal soon I promise!
His daughter?? Mia found herself gaping like an idiot, staring between the three in front of her. Angel looked like his mother- his daughter looked even more like him. She thought back to his warning earlier, wanting to smack herself in the face. So this is why he kept talking about children...
"Nice to meet you." Mia said, blushing deeply. She could tell that his mother and her were going to get along- after all, she cooked just like Mia did at home. And his daughter was so beautiful... but what about her mother? She looked around, half expecting someone else to walk in and introduce herself.
When that didn't happen, she took a step forward. "Is there any way I can help?"

Angle released the breath he was holding in and smiled at Mia. He was sure that his eyes were giving him away, as usual. He was glad that Mia didn't run screaming the other way after finding out that he had a daughter and that he lived with his mother.
He was even happier to see her trying to immerse herself with his family. This made him smile even harder. "Would you like to help me finish up the cooking?" His mother asked, in her heavy accent. She turned towards the stove and picked up one of the cooking spoons, passing it Mia's way.
"Me and Alexa will finish setting up the table before we have to go round up the kids," Angel said, helping Alexa down from the table. He watched from the corner of his eyes as his mother started to ramble on and on to Mia. God knows about what, but it was how she cooked. She couldn't cook in complete silence and loved having someone to listen to her.
"This is a crazy people house, Mia. Everyone is running around and don't have time to sit down and eat. But they know that when it's dinner time, we sit down in peace or I'll smack them over the head with this," she said, making a smacking motion with the cooking spoon in her hand.
Angel smirked to himself. His mother was adorable. She was woman who looked older than she was. She was small and spoke lightly, but she was wise. Measured her words carefully and her actions even more. She was his guiding light- kept him balanced and made sure none of the shit from the street tarnished him.
This was what made him who he was and Mia seemed to fit in perfectly with it and him. Angel smiled.

Mia took the spoon offered to her with a grin. "That, I can do. I do all the cooking at my house." She was already head-over-heels in love with Angel's mother. She reminded her so much of her mother back before the accident that had killed her.
Angel's mother made a smacking motion with her spoon and Mia couldn't help but laugh out loud. She would really love to see her smack Angel with the spoon once or twice. She'd pay for it even. "You may have to show me your technique so I can use it too." She teased, thinking of how much fun it would be to chase Dom or Brian around with a wooden spoon.
She threw a flirtatious glance back at Angel and turned her attention to what she was stirring. "This smells so good... Am I doing this right?"

Angel had a good feeling about all this. He watched as Mia and his mother instantly bonded over the stove. This was something that rarely happened. His mother didn't like any of the females that he brought home, that's why he just stopped bringing them over. He also liked the fact that Mia was.... well she was Mia. He didn't know why, but for some reason her being in that kitchen with his mother made the house instantly feel like a completed home.
He returned Mia's smile before he finished setting up the table and heading to gather all the kids. His mother served dinner promptly and the entire family knew that if they showed up late, there would be no food for them.
A few minutes later, the dining room began to fill up with kids and adults coming out of all corners from the house. Most of them didn't live there, but his mother was firm about eating dinner together. She didn't care about breakfast or lunch, but dinner time was sacred in this family.
As he sat the last kid in their place, he glanced at the head of the table, where 4 chairs sat empty. Angel's, his mother's, Alexa's and... The last chair had been empty for quite some time now. It used to be Amira's seat at the table and now with her absence, Angel longed to have someone sitting there. Someone to fill the gap.
He walked towards the kitchen, leaning against the door frame and watched them. Alexa creeped up beside him, leaning her head against his side. "Waddya think?" He whispered, motioning to Mia and his mother. She glanced between her father and them, then smiled. "She's nice," she whispered back, before running up to them and getting their attention ready.
"Table is ready, abuelita. Mia come on. You have to sit next to me," Alexa said, grabbing on to her arm and tugging.

Mia was surprised at how quickly things fell into place around her. It was just like being part of a family again; Mia was enjoying every second of being here, with these people. She tried to think of the last time she felt this happy and was startled to realize that it had been years and years before, back when Jesse and Leon and all the others were still around.
She helped Angel's mother finish the cooking and was starting to gather the dirty dishes when she felt a tug on her arm. She looked down and smiled at Angel's daughter. "I have to sit by you, huh? I guess I am an important guest." She laughed, letting Alexa drag her into the next room. She smiled at Angel as she passed him.
When she took the empty seat offered to her, she realized how many people were actually there around her. She watched in amazement as they all talked around her. Mia's family had never been this big, but she didn't feel the least bit threatened by the size of Angel's family. Even with all the people it felt homey. She flashed Angel a smile and motioned for him to sit on her other side.

The dining room was extremely loud as plates were being passed around and people spoke across the table with each other. Angel kept glancing at Mia every now and then, hoping that he didn't seem like some love sick puppy, but he just wanted to make sure that this was real. And that Mia was real.
He watched as they interacted with each other, allowing Mia to enter their family. Whether she wanted it or not, or whether she knew it or not, Mia was now one of them. He only hoped that she would enjoy it.
It was gonna be one hell of a ride.
"So Mia, will you be spending the night?" His mother blurted out. Angel's face turned red and he almost choked on his food. "Maa...," he said, trying to find the correct words to diffuse the situation. Make Mia feel like he had no interest in her or let Mia think that a lot of girls spent the night with him. Either way this could turn ugly.
He cleared his throat, starring daggers at his mother. He briefly glance at Mia, a weak smile on his face as he thought of how to get himself out of this jam.

Mia always chose the worst time to drink anything. The meal was going perfect. She couldn't help but smile as she conversed with Alexa and the others around her. She was half-way through swallowing with Angel's mother asked her if she was going to stay the night. She snorted, choking on her drink and coughed until she could breath again. Her face was bright red, as she exchanged a glance with Angel.
Did he normally invite women over from coffee shops and ask them to spend the night? She couldn't help smirking when she saw his face. He was embaressed, as he should be. Mia looked down at Alexa, who looked terribly excited at the idea, before she looked back at Angel's mother. "Actually, I'll have to get home to my own family after this." The thought of going home to an empty house made her a little sad, but she knew she couldn't stay here without causing some kind of uproar back at the Fort.
"But I would love to come over again sometime... if that's okay?" She looked to Angel beside her, hoping he would agree. She hated the idea that she had just invited herself into his life, but she was truly grateful for the distraction from everything around her normally. Beside that, she was really getting used to this group...

Angel felt right at home as they finished up dinner and the kids sat around the television with his mother, eating ice cream sandwiches. He watched from the dark corner of and smiled at himself. He glanced back towards Mia before joining her in the kitchen's doorway.
"We would love to have you over for dinner anytime. Hell, apparently my mother's ready to move you in," he said, cocking his head to the side.
"But honestly, I would love to get to know you a little better, before we take such a big leap and all," he whispered, reaching over and wrapping a strand of her long, dark hair around a fingertip. He drew in a deep breath and inhaled her warm scent before releasing it slowly.

Mia smiled softly, taking just a small step back after Angel released her hair. She tucked it behind her ear and looked around the room at the group of people nearby. Everyone else seemed distracted by the television or conversation. She turned her gaze back to Angel.
"Well, what do you want to know? I'm an open book, you just have to ask the right questions..." Mia smirked reaching over to tap Angel's shoulder lightly. Pretty soon he'd be taking her home, but until then she didn't mind hanging out with Angel and his family.
