"I have 20 minutes before I have to go back to work." A glance at his watch confirmed that he needed to head back to the station soon. "I can give you a hand...and I'll give you a call tonight about racing...are we talking track or streets?" LOL old pic

"Alright. Take out these sway bars real quick." Cole said pointing to the them. "We'll do this on the streets where we met each other in the first place." He smiled at Brian. "I look foward to it."

"What, you're only going to use this baby for drags now?" Brian enquired but still grabbed a ratchet to take off the tires, then quickly unbolted them from the suspension and chassis. With a metallic sound they landed on the cement floor. "Happy?"

Cole laughed. "Far from it, I need the sway bar out to get to the engine. And I've got some aftermarket ones on the way." He winked at Brian. He examined the sway bar and held it up in front of Brian. "These factory bars are way too soft, you want stiff ones." He explained.

Mira shook her head. She was pretty sure she had told Brian about her job undercover at Diablo's. She flipped the radio in the shop on before moving to the first car on her list. Popping the hood of the burnt orange Eclipse she started the long process of replacing the piston rings.

"Aftermarket, huh? You sure that's where you're getting your parts? You know what I do for a living, right?" He smirked at the guy. 15 years ago he would have been intimidated by a cop. Now he knew how stay under the radar. Brian tried to be a good cop but simply couldn't keep his hands off his passion: the nightly illegal races and the scene and tuning that came with it. "Relax."

Cole raised an eyebrow, then realizing what Brian was saying, panicked a little. "You're saying you're a cop man?" Worry evident in his voice. "What are you doing mixed in with us? Undercover work or something?" The fact that Brian was a cop didn't really surprise him, he didn't buy the cop imitation joke for one second. What he wanted to know was what the hell he was doing.

The panick in Coles voice made Brian laugh. All too many times had he gotten that reaction over the past 7 years when somebody figured out where his paycheques came from. "Nope, not undercover anymore...would I be wearing a uniform then?" He shook his head. "I just like to bend the law a little when it comes to my passion." He clapped Cole on the shoulder. "Relax...haven't busted any of my buddies in years!" That was actually a pretty bad joke as he realized himself.

Cole relaxed a little with Brian's tone. It sounded like he was being sincere. "So you're a cop that street races? You have got to be one of the strangest people I have ever met." Cole shook his head. Brian probably knew everything that went around the streets, giving his resources. That could either be a great blessing or great curse, he thought.
Looking at the clock, he saw Brian's 20 minutes were up. "Well I suppose you need to get back on duty." He shook his head again. "Call me tonight if you do end up going to the races, I'll roll on down." He turned back to the GT-R. "Parts will start coming in for this tomorrow, so if I can work fast, or get additional help, then I can maybe finish it in a week." He nodded at Brian.

"Alright." Brian wiped his hands on a rag and nodded at Cole. "I'll give you a call."
Then he went over to Mira and tackled her from behind before he kissed her behind her ear. "I'll see you after work...dinner? We could check out that Thai place near the docks."
With fast steps he left the garage and the last thing was the raoring of the engine before he was gone. 'Yes, a cop who races.' Strangely enough the thought filled him with pride.

Cole waved at Brian as he took off. He returned to his work on the GT-R. After a little shaking and weaving, the engine was free and fell down on to the engine rack. Now that that was out of the way, he started taking screws out and undoing welds that held the crushed front fenders on. He'd work on it until Brian gave him a call, he had nothing else to do anyway.

Cole practically lived at the shop now. He had just finished rebuilding his evo to a raceable condition, and now a UPS truck earlier in the day dropped off the huge shipment of parts to finish the GT-R. Now it was just a matter of time before it was done. He thought about calling Brian, but decided he'd finish the car first before bothering him with it. He started first with the suspension, making sure every fine detail was attended to. He couldn't wait until this car was done, he dreamed of all the races he'd win, and all the money he'd make.

Mira drover her black and blue Dodge charger into the garage and got out looking at Cole. "Well you look like a kid at Christmas..." She popped the hood of her Charger and closed the door leaning over the engine. "How close are you to being done?"

At the roar of a V8, Cole pulled himself from under the car and saw Mira step out of her charger. "I'm happier than a kid at Christmas." He said grinning. "She's got a long road ahead of her, but at least it'll be something very special when it's done." He looked over the componets for his new suspension setup. Thinking Brian would follow Mira if she came here, he asked. "Is Brian coming?"

Mira hands clenched into fists and her voice wavered. "N-No..." Tears slipped down her cheeks and one of her hands rested on her stomach. Leaning back over the engine her tears dripped down as she checked the oil. She was angry, upset and frustrated not to mention guilty feeling. She had shot the man she loved.

Mira's emotional response caused Cole to raise an eyebrow. Looking at her for a second, he noticed the tears and was immedietly worried to hell. Thinking this might be a very touchy situation, he spoke softly. "Is something wrong?" Already knowing that there was something wrong, very wrong.

Mira closed the hood of her charger and sat on it more tears falling. "Yeah... very wrong..." She walked over to him. " Need any help?" She whipped the tears off her cheeks. She wanted to talk about what was going on between her and Brian but was unsure if Cole was really the best person. He was Brian's friend after all.

Cole now stood up and brushed his hair aside, facing Mira. "Is he okay?" Deep worry in his voice, ignoring Mira's offer, this was far more important than that.

"He has a bullet hole in his shoulder... that's about all I know now..." Mira's mismatched eyes meet Cole's. "We haven't talked in a few days... He might talk to you though." She walked around and looked at the car. "Its looking better."

Cole sighed. Mira was obviously holding something, she looked like she was about to burst open with grief. "Well, at least tell me he'll be okay. Police work is a dangerous profession." He rubbed his eyes and shook his head. "Why would anyone want to shoot Brian?" He glanced back at the project, nodding at Mira's comment.
