"Non, no,no, no!" Brian studdered staring at the chief in disbelief. "Why? What did I do to you?" This simply couldn't be happening. That tiny bit of connection between him and his terribly misguided brother would be squashed like a rotten tomato on a 12 lane high way.
Yes, Brian had asked to be on active duty again but not to do this. His boss must have a huge pimple on his ass today. Running his hand over his head Brian held his tongue and his breath as he turned to leave his boss' office with a form in his hand. Not just any form. It was an arrest warrant for his brother. To be executed immediately. His first way was to the bathroom to think for a moment. Maybe he should resign completely or forget about active duty but it was too late now. The second way was to the locker to grab his bullet proof jacket just in case. Then he handed his older partner the form and said. "Let's go, Biggs. We have a job to do." Pulling the hat that was part of his uniform on he grabbed the keys to one of their standard patrol cars from the board and sighed deeply.
The sighing didn't stop until he came to the garage his brother worked at during the day. Brian made sure not to use the sirens in order not to give away his arrival and give Jack a headstart.
Biggs gave him an odd look as he pointed at the last name on the form. "Do you know that guy?" Brian frowned. "Once upon a time." Then he shut the engine off and made sure his gun was loaded but the safety still on. Through the open door he could already see Jack working under a ramp.

Jack finally pulled the cv joint free and out from behind the wheel hub of the Civic he was currently working on. In the background some rock song was playing on the crummy speakers of an even crummier old stereo set, and he occasionally sang a few lines along with it while he kept the garage doors open for a lack of a working A/C. Larry, his boss, had never bothered to update the place out of the stone age, but he guessed it was what gave the place it's charm. He snorted at the thought. Truth was, Larry had been the only garage owner willing to even give him a job as mechanic despite his record. No matter how golden he was around cars, most other garage owners preferred their mechanics clean, or at least without a record that that included several grand theft offenses dating from high school years and on...
He placed the old cv joint on a workbench before he moved to grab the new one, yet his eyes caught something entirely different when he turned around. Outside, a cop car was parked in front of the open doors. The engine was turned off, and even from inside the garage he could recognize the cop, pig, sat behind the wheel. Well I'll be damned...
He smirked as he half heartedly cleaned his hands on the legs of his coverall, the top half of it simply tied around his waist because of the fucking hot Miami weather and his already stained wifebeater didn't need protecting from engine grease anyway, before he made his way over to the car. His brother had some nerve showing up here, dressed in full attire, but he had to say it amused him none the less.
"Morning, officers." Though he used the word plural, he only regarded his brother as he bent down to the open car window. "Looking for another tune-up, bro?" He smiled slightly, clearly talking about the beating he had given Brian, before his eyes turned towards the other cop. "Though why come all the way out here when there's a perfectly fine garage downtown. It's even right next to a donut shop." He shot the man a wink before he straightened back up and turned with every intention to go back inside. These guys were fucking jokes to him, and whatever Brian had come here for, he could shove it up his straightlaced ass. He had work to do, a.k.a a car to finish...

Obviously Jack had no idea what they had come for. Brian almost had to smile because the guy was giving them a lip while he was about to get shoved into a cell. That was actually somewhat funny and served him right. Unfortunately the task at hand didn't make the cop happy in the slightest. Jack was his brother, if he liked it or not. The last thing he wanted to do is close the lock on his cuffs and shove him into a cell where he would spend the next years of his life. Yet it had to be done. So Brian pushed the door open and nodded for his partner to follow him. For some strange reason he felt that he needed back up around Jack.
With a grunt and weird expression the older cop followed him and thumbed the safety off his gun.
"Hey, wait up." Brian called Jack and let his eyes wander arround for the garage owner. When he was close enough he stood still, both feet placed firmly on the ground and said. "Jack, you're under arrest and this time I'm not joking." He waited for his brother to make a move forward or away from him. Either way he was ready to react. " You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do or say..." Brian reached for the cuffs on his hip suddenly having flashbacks of the night in the alley. Back then Brian didn't really want to arrest Jack, now he had to. "I have to do this, Jack. Hold your hands out. Anything you do or say can and will..." He started again.

Jack stopped walking. The sound of a gun cocking behind his back had caught his attention long before Brian's words did, and he turned around to face both cops. If he was honest, he hadn't thought Brian would go for an arrest, maybe had even counted on Brian still having his back (yes, even after what he had done) simply because they were brothers, and had acted as such once upon a time.. Now though, they might as well be strangers.
He opted to take a step forwards as his brother reached for his cuffs, but the other cop seemed to foresee this and trained the barrel of his gun directly on him. He however, didn't raise his hands, and he snorted when Brian started on his rights again. ""Yeah, yeah.. anything I say or do can and will be used against me. Save it, brother, I know the fucking drill." He growled mid-sentence. He knew his rights, had had them read to him multiple times before, though never by his own blood. Actually... that wasn't entirely true now, was it?
His eyes moved towards the other cop as if he was assessing the man, and while he did, he took a barely noticeable step backwards. Fuck this.. The pig wouldn't shoot him, not when he was unarmed, and he wasn't going to let himself get arrested this easily.
Without further warning he turned quickly and made a run for it, in to the garage where he pushed over a stack of old tires in his wake to make pursuit harder. He rushed towards the back entrance next, forced the door open and slammed it shut behind him as he entered the narrow alley behind the garage. As he turned the first corner he could find, all he could think of while running was.. I need to quit smoking!

Arresting or possibly even shooting a family member was one the most dreaded things for Brian. So he was more than a little uneasy about the task at hand. When Jack started rambling off the well-known words Brian stopped and just stated. "Shut, Jack." Then he continued his speech but before he could end it his brother decided to make a run for it. Knowing that his slightly overweight partner didn't stand a chance against his lean, much younger brother Brian dropped the form and ran after his brother, through the garage, leaping over the obstacles in his way and to the back door. "Stop." he shouted but was well aware that Jack wouldn't stop unless he wanted to dish out another beating. This time Brian was armed and ready to use his weapon though.
He ran as fast as he could into the alley and almost caught up with Jack by the time he made it to the end of it. Quickly he tried to grab him by his jumpsuit but his fingers only untied the knot in front and Jack managed to keep running. So Brian kept sprinting down another two streets and through an obstacle course made of garbage cans, small shops and streets until he finally got close enough to kick Jacks legs out under him and send him flying onto the tarmac face first.
Brian didn't care if he hurt his brother for obvious reasons as he tackled him and twisted both hands up his back. "Stay down!" He commanded with his knee on Jacks spine.

Stop? Ha! Not a chance. Jack ignored the shouts behind him as he sped up his already fast pace through the alley. Nearing the end though, he could feel a tug on his work attire, yet with a yanking movement of his upper body he could continue his flight without having been slowed down much. He bolted out of the alley, pushing people out of his way as he hit the streets. In his crazy attempt to ditch Brian, he jumped and slid over the hoods of several parked and moving cars, pushed trash cans and yes, even people over in his wake, and forced his way through several small shops before he hit another street. Yet none of it seemed to be enough to distance himself from his brother, as he could still hear the pounding foot steps behind him. Son of a bitch! Before he knew it, his legs were kicked out from under him. He could feel the skin of his cheek scrape open when his face hit the tarmac, and a groan left his mouth when he felt Brian's knee on his back, holding him down while his hands were twisted up his back. He was in to some kinky shit from time to time, sure. But this..? Yeah, no, he could do without this.. "Get the fuck off me, man!" He snarled as he tried to break free, yet in the position he was currently in he was only hurting himself. "Is this your way of revenge, huh! Because I rearranged your face for the better? You're selling your own flesh and blood out, Brian!" He growled, his breath blowing angrily against the tarmac below him. And his brother still wondered why he hated his fucking cop guts?

Making sure his grip is firm enough Brian took the hand cuffs with his right and and tied his brothers hands together. Jack's words hit bulls eye. Never before had he felt as much as a traitor, not with Dom and his crew nor any other investigation. He swallowed hard, the muscles in his jaw working while he took his knee off Jacks back. "I got the orders that's all."
Behind him his partner showed up after he had pulled the car around the block and caught up with them. He was aiming his gun straight at Jack while Brian pulled him to his feet. Squinting he tried to find a resemblance. They were the same hight and similar built, hair color but other than that didn't exactly look like twins. "That's your brother?" His eyes scanned the papers. "Grand theft?" He raised his brows at Brian, then Jack. "Is he adopted?" Brian didn't appreciate the nosy questions but grunted. "I wish." Then he took Jacks arm, suppressed the urge to shove him but actually led him to the car and pushed his head down. "Get in, Jack." Uneasily he walked around the car and started the engine.

Jack scoffed. "Just orders, huh? That's fucking bullshit and you know it." He growled, his teeth gritting when he felt the cuffs lock around his wrists. He was pulled to his feet, and as he moved to yank his shoulder free from his brother's grasp, he was instantly met with the barrel of the second cop's gun again. Was that really necessary?
After he was shoved in to the back seat of the cop car, he remained silent as Brian started the engine. Already his cuffed hands unnoticeably moved further down his back towards the ass pocket of his coverall while his eyes stayed on the rear-view mirror, glaring at his brother. He maneuvered one hand inside his pocket, searching for something he could possibly pick the lock with. Anything would do really...
When his fingers grazed over a piece of thin wire, he barely managed to keep a smile from entering his face. Who said carrying random shit on you was a bad thing, huh? He moved just enough as he carefully pulled the wire out of his pocket and exchanged it from his left hand to his right.
"You know, you're a real piece of work, Brian." He started as a distraction while his fingers felt around for the keyhole before he pushed the end of the wire inside, using it to bend it in the angle he need it to be. "Smuggling out the impound inventory list, stealing those cars with me, you even helped me escape the popo." He continued as he next bend the wire down inside the lock, moved it, and within mere seconds he had one wrist free before the other followed soon after.
He smiled as his eyes now fully met Brian's through the rear-view mirror. "Hell, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you're trying to have things both ways. Doesn't make you a very honest or trustworthy man, does it?" Now he full out grinned as he taunted his brother, and all the while he still kept his hands behind his back as if he was still cuffed. He wasn't stupid. He'd bide his time until they reached the police station before he'd make a move on these two unexpecting assholes.
Finally the car pulled up in front of the police station, and as he had hoped, it was the other cop that moved towards his door to open it. The man had barely time to react when he got out of the car. His hand already grabbed the cop's gun from it's holster while he forcefully turned the man around and wrapped his arm around the pig's throat from behind. There was a sound of the safety being thumbed off as he pressed the barrel of the 9mm against the man's temple.
"Sorry, Brian. But your little victory ends here." He stared at his brother with intense eyes. He wasn't going to rot behind bars for who knew how many years, hoping that maybe Faye would still be there when he got out, if he got out... Fuck that.

All the way to the station Brian had an aweful feeling in his gutt about bringing Jack into the slaughterhouse. His only hope was that the boss only wanted to interrogate him and then put him back on the streets as bait rather than locking him up immediately.
When Jack was starting to give up information about Brian's help with the car theft he knew he was doing the right thing even though there was certain risk for himself. He shot a quick glance at his partner, who looked back at him in confusion. It seemed like he couldn't decide whether he thaough Jack was telling the truth.
Pulling up in front of the station Brian turned off the engine. Before he was even out the door Jack had turned the whole situation around. How on earth he got out of the handcuffs nobody knew but now he was pointing a gun at Brian's partner. The cop scrambled out of his seat and drew his own gun before he stepped away from the vehicle. "What the fuck are you doing, Jack? How much are you going to add to your list of offenses? Put that fucking gun down! You'll never get out of jail if you kill a cop, brother. Just put the gun down. I think they only want to talk to you. Okay?" He yelled.
If Jack was really going to go through with this Brian would have to shoot him and that was definetly the last thing he wanted to do. At least he had put a vest on. Funny, maybe he knew his brother better than he thought. In a low voice he added. "Don't make me shoot you." In front of Jack his partner was clearly panicking. This guy was a loose cannon and the older cop clearly not use to being taken hostage. With his head bright red and his whole body shaking he stood frozen.

As he suspected, Brian immediately drew his own gun on him when he got out of the car, and he only then noticed, by the slightly bulging pristine white police shirt, that his cop brother was wearing a vest underneath. Brian had come prepared for this? For a stand off with his own flesh and blood? Maybe for the best...
His arm tightened the chokehold around his hostage's throat as he shifted the gun's muzzle from the temple to underneath the man's jawbone, the barrel pointing up. "Make one wrong move and I'll spray your brain over the sidewalk like confetti. Understand?" He growled lowly next to the man's ear, practically smelling the fear on the cop as the man nodded.
He turned his attention back fully on to Brian as he raised his eyebrows. "Brother? You're still calling me your brother?" He snorted while a half smile crossed his mouth. "You're no longer my brother though, Brian. We don't have one thing in common, except maybe our last name." And as for that 'they just want to talk'? Right.. He wasn't a fucking idiot. The best he could hope for was a deal in exchange for information, and even said deal was a stretch. He knew how cops worked.
He snorted again. "I'm not making you do anything, Brian." Or maybe he was. Either way, he could see Brian struggling inside. Be the cop, or still try and be the brother.. It was a tough decision, wasn't it? Him though, he had made his choice.
He pushed his hostage away from him, and in that instant his thumb cocked the hammer of his gun back as he moved his aim to point the muzzle at Brian's chest instead. "You should have taken that shot at me in the alley when you had the chance, bro. Would have saved you a lot of trouble." He smiled wryly for a moment. He had crossed the line badly against his family a few nights ago, but now...
Then his smile faded, making room for a scowl, and without any sign of hesitation, he pulled the trigger. He fired not once, but twice. The loud shots cracked through the air, followed by the screams of panicking bystanders. He knew he should run by now, but instead he stayed standing as he coldly watched his brother stumble back...

The impact of the bulletts sent Brian flying back. His back hit the tarmac while only one thought shot through his mind. "He didn't just do this." Without thinking he instantly tried to see where Jack was from his position on the ground and took a couple of shots out of mere reaction. Strangely enough he was still aiming for his brother legs rather than his head.
Whether he actually hit him he had no idea because his vision went black and the two donuts he had had an hour before made a reappearance on the ground in front of him when the pain from the two bulletts set in. Goodness they hurt like hell even if they hit the vest.

Mira gasped in surprise as she drew her own gun firing a shot into Jacks shoulder. When she found out that Brian was asigned to arrest his brother she knew it wasn't goign to be easy. But she never expected someone to get shot. As jack fell she movedfrom behind him. She kicked the gun away from jacks hand."Don't move or I will shoot you again." Mira knealed next to Brian.
She quickly took off his vest so it couldnt restrict his breathing. "Alright Brian talk to me and don't you pass out." She started to check over his wounds holding her hand over a wound tring to stop the flow of blood.
People were screaming and panicing all around them. Women were screaming that Brian and Jack were gonna die. Some people were taking pictures and video with their phones while others were pointing at the ever growing pools of blood.

Jack stumbled sideways against the patrol car next to him, his leg refusing to hold his weight any longer, when one of the bullets tore in to the flesh of his left thigh. Jesus Christ! He used the car to stay standing by leaning against it, and he gritted his teeth against the pain as he pressed one hand on the wound, already feeling his warm blood quickly soak the fabric of his pants before it began seeping steadily and easily through his fingers. God damn it, that's a lot of blood.
His eyes traveled towards Brian lying on the ground. His hand that still held the gun followed his line of vision to point the barrel at his brother once more. His hand trembled from the fiery pain in his leg as he took aim. He'd get the bastard for this! But before he could take another shot, he sank to his knees, the gun slipping from his grasp and falling on to the ground, when a second bullet penetrated his right shoulder from behind. "You bitch. You shot me.." He pressed out when a female cop revealed herself from behind him and kicked the gun away from him.
He grunted in pain as he moved to sit with his back against the car. What other choice did he have? His shoulder and wifebeater were already becoming slick with blood, but he used both his hands to apply pressure to the wound in his leg instead while he rested his head back against the vehicle. He was bleeding like a son of a bitch, and it hurt even worse.
How the hell had this happened?

Out of the two of them Brian was probably the lucky one but right now he didn't feel so lucky. Those two damn rounds the vest had absorbed hurt like hell and his vision was only coming back enough to see blurry and hear damped sounds. All he could do is lie there and take shallow breaths. 'One must have hit me in the chest'. he thought. When his vision finally cleared up he looked into the concerned face of a woman...Mira? The blink of an eye later he caught her words and looked at her hand which was pressing painfully down on his lower abdomen but couldn't quite stop the bleeding. "Why the... am I bleeding? ...I'm wearing a vest." He pressed out in between waves of pain hitting the pit of his stomach.
His eyes wandered up to her stern face again and he gave her a brief smile thankful that she was there. Above her the clouds were travelling slowly as if it was a nice day at the beach.
Jack! Pushing himself up slightly he tried to see whether Jack had made an escape. To his satisfaction Jack was leaning against a car only 50 meters away.
Suddenly his partner stepped into the line of view. The man grabbed a gun from the ground and held it up to Jacks head instead of handcuffing him.
"No!" Escaped Brians mouth but the pain from his wound forced him back onto the ground.
The eyes of the older, larger cop narrow, sweat was glistening on his forehead but his eyes showed determination. "Reach for my gun, do me the favor." He then spat at Jacks foot but kept staring. "You just shot your own brother, you scumbag." The barrell of the gun was shoved against Jacks temple so hard it knocked his head against the car behind him.

With shaking hands Mira applied more pressure to the wound. "I don't know Brian but you have to stop moving." Blood covered her hands. "I would worry about yourself right now Brian." SHe then spoke in a whisper."I will keep my promise and keep your idiot brother alive."
Turning to the other officer she snapped. "How about instead of theataning him you arest himlike you are supposed to or better yet why don't you get an ambulence here so they both don't bleed out infront of the station"

Jack had both hands pressed so hard against his wounded thigh that the back of his upper hands were almost white, his teeth gritting against the pain. Yet still more and more of his blood seeped through his fingers with every beat of his heart. Had Brian hit a fucking artery? He was too preoccupied with trying to slow the heavy bleeding to even notice that the cop, the one he had held under gun point only mere minutes ago, was grabbing the 9mm from the ground.
His head was pushed to the side, his cheek pressed against the metal of the car behind him when something cold was forced hard against his temple. He could already guess what it was even before he heard the hammer being pulled back, much like he had done before he had pulled the trigger on Brian. How badly had the bullets hit his brother? He had deliberately aimed for the vest, but he hadn't seen Brian get up yet after watching him fall.
One bloodied and unsteady hand reached for the barrel, and he pulled the muzzle from his temple towards his forehead. He could see the hatred and determination in the cop's eyes even as he spat at his feet and uttered those words. Like he didn't know what he had done. "If you're gonna shoot me... shoot... If not... give me your fucking belt... and help me..." He pressed out between heavy breaths as he looked at the man.
His hand slipped from the weapon and he pressed it back on his wounded thigh, even though he knew it wasn't making much of a difference. If anything, soon enough the cop didn't even need to pull that trigger on him, he'd just bleed to death right here if he couldn't cut the blood flow off within the next few moments.

When the guy actually had the nerve to shift the barrell to his forehead Brian's partner was tempted to pull the trigger. For 20 years on duty he'd been afraid of loose canons like him. He simply did not understand the hate that made this kid fire his gun no matter if it was his brother or a stranger. Who gave him the right? He didn't want to be like those conscienceless bastards plus he heard his colleagues warning and the scared screams of pedestrians, who had formed somewhat of an audience. So he shoved the gun in his holster and assessed the massive puddle of blood below O'Conners leg. The guy was right. He needed some sort of touriquette fast.
At the blonde female cop behind him he yelled "Call an ambulance quickly." While he tried to fiddle out his belt. Before he could do it a woman in her thirties pushed her way through the crowd. Quickly she kneeled down next to Jack and gave him a scared look. "Okay, don't hurt me. You'll die if I don't tie this off." With fast fingers she wrapped her scarf around his upper thight, slipped a pencil through it and twisted it tighter and tighter until she cut off as much of the blood flow as she could. Her hands were shaking heavily as she watched the cop cuff Jack. "Hold this." She told him before she slowly backed away from him, obviously scared to get caught in the cross fire.
Oblivious of Jacks state and too consumed with his own blood soaking trough his uniform Brian tried to push Miras hands away to get a look. "Let me see." He pulled the shirt up and could see that the bullett had either missed the bottom of his vest and torn a bleeding wound into his skin right through the vest. Either way, blood was flowing and pain keeping him from standing up. "Oh, shit." Was Brian's only comment. He had no experience with gun shot wounds but it sure as hell felt bad. Even his chest felt as if a tripple black belt had just delivered his master jab and kept him from breathing normally.

As she watched the women tend to Jack she couldn't help but smile. At least someone in the crowd had a heart and was willing to help. It also gave Jack a greater chance at living which in turn was a help to her. With him alive she had someone to question about the case.
Hearing the other officer yell Mira shakily took out her cell phone and called for an ambulence useing her other hand to keep pressure on Brian's wound."I need an ambulance quickly infront of the PD I have two gun shot victums. One late twentys with a gun shot in the under tigh the other early thirthys with a gun shot to the stomach." She waited a moment before contiuing. " They were both shot around 10 minutes ago. A-and both of them have lost quiet a bit of blood."
10 minutes passed though it seem like longer before the EMTs arrived and started to work on Brian and Jack. Mira stepped back, her hands still shaking, and gave them room to work. The EMTs rushed around Jack and Brian trying to stablize them and stop the blood flow.

A day later, which was by the way anything but pleasant and made Brian picture all the possible ways he could hurt his brother, while the doctor was cleaning his wound, rearranging bits and pieces of torn muscle and skin and stitching it up, Brian was lying in bed waiting for somebody to tell him when he could go home. It had turned out that the close distance shots had actually emitted enough force through the vest to leave a 3 inch deep gash on his abdomen and a bruise on his chest that had a wider spectrum of colors that a rainbow. Lucky me!
Despite his hate and complete lack of understanding Brian had kept track of Jack's fate. For a while it looked like his brother wouldn't even make it curtesy of an unintentional but well placed bullet in the artery of his thigh. Brian went through hell and back because he might be responsible for killing him. When hours later the all-clear followed he felt like a rock the size of El Capitan dropped of his chest and he finally allowed himself to sleep.
Secretly he was hoping that Mira would come over today so he could thank her for saving his bleeding ass by shooting his brother. That's definetly worth an invitation to getting absolutely shitfaced...something that Brian was looking forward to after this scare. For about two hours Brian listened to the guy next to him groan and moan, caugh and sniff when finally a nurse came for checks. "Hey Amy, can you tell me when I can go home? And, uh, hows my brother?"

After a long sleepless night Mira walked through the hospital. After a nice long talk with the captian and some lovely paperwork she had gotten to go home last night but sleep never came. Too much on her mind to sleep.
When she got to the front desk she showed the women her badge and fallowed her directons to Brian's room. Taking a deep breath she stepped inside."Morning Brian." Setting down in a chair next to his bed she smiled slightly. "Nice to see you are alive." Her hands were still shaking from the night before. "How are you feeling?"
