Dom was busy plucking away at the new, yet old civics brought in from the night before, not to mention there were two customer cars that just came in from that same night, apparently people were so excited for Dom's return that they promptly wanted their rides fixed up by his garage. Never a bad thing though, he charged top dollar, and therefore made some pretty serious bucks from the work.
He never had an intention for his shop to become a business in any way, but now it was almost a necessity to make any cash at all.

For days, maybe even weeks Brian had been browsing the local paper and internet even though he could barely afford to pay for it anymore since he had to leave 700 dollars, that were't even his, at a store for baby stuff. There were a lot of jobs out there but not many that he was qualified to do being an ex cop with a pending trial. Most people didn't even call when he handed in his cv and the local burger joint didn't look so promising. For a few days he worked as a chauffeur for a company who needed a fill in but quickly got tired of driving snobs. So he was happy to hear that Dom had opened his garage to the public and might need help. He wasn't too sure how his on and off friend would react to him but he figured they had helped Walter together and parted on good terms so he might as well give it a try. He rolled up to the garage in the brand new ride that Cole bought him from all his illegal cash that he made. Killing the engine he stepped out of the car and shot a glance up at the house to see whether he could spot Mia. Then he slowly stepped up on the curb where Jesse had died years ago and crossed the lawn to enter the old garage where Dom was busy filling around. For a moment he stood and watched, then cleared his throat and asked. "Need some help with that?'

Dom expected just about anything but for Brian to show up. Not only was it a surprise, but coming off of his recent conversation with Mia, a bit of ironic as well. "Yeah maybe actually." He took a swig of his corona and looked at the blonde that stood in the doorway. "So are you following me around now or what?" He said with a bit of a laugh.

Brian wasn't really sure how to interpret the amused look on Doms face or the question about following him around. Was he referring to eight years ago or what? Brian just narrowed his eyes and asked. "Nah, just offering my help." He shoved his hands in his pockets because asking for help was something he didn't do easily. "I just have a little extra time at my hands and figured maybe you want some help...or get rid of a Corona." he pointed at the one in Doms hand.

"Right." Dom went over to the rather small fridge and pulled out one of many coronas stashed away in there, popped the top off, and handed it to Brian. "You're that bored, huh?" He stated with a grin and nodded over to the civic he was wrenching on. "Needs a new clutch, slipping like hell in that last race." He set his own corona down and went back to the engine bay on the car. "Get under it and tell me when the engine is tilted enough to yank the tranny." He said as he start pushing the loosened engine forward.
Dom had the sense that Brian meant a little more that just today. Brian didn't just show up to get his hands dirty on some random project, unless he was a different man from when he last saw him. "You looking for work, O'Conner?"

Brian was great that todays mood seemed to be welcoming and he received a Corona rather than a kick in the ass. So he took it, felt the smooth cool bottle in his hand before he took a drink of the beer he become familiar with at the Torettos. It went down smooth and soothing. When Dom told him to get under the car he nodded and set down the beer. "Alright." He grabbed one of the creepers and laid down on it. When Dom asked about him needing a job he hesitated for a moment, then said. "To be honest, yeah." He came back out from underneath the car and looked up at Dom from his position on the board. "I'm broke, totally, and I'm not qualified for anything else." Now it was out and he had to wait for his friends answer.

Dom jiggled the block around until he felt that reassuring thud that the engine was unbound from the drive-train. "Lucky for you, I actually need another set of hands here." He said as he threw down another swig of beer. "Bunch of guys out there who just wanna drive and not wrench, so they have others do their work. I never accepted jobs like these before, but times have changed." He thought out loud in a low voice. "Each job that comes in, we split the profit, good?" He shot a glance at the ex-cop.

She removed her kitchen apron happy to have finish making dinner. It helped her distract her mind too. Dom was still stuck in the garage working on some car.
She exit the kitchen and clearly could hear Dom´s voice speaking with someone. "Dom, dinner is..." she stopped finally understanding who he was talking to. "..ready." she finished her sentence.

The offer Dom was making was much better than anything Brian could hope for. So a shit eating grin spread on his face. "Sounds awesome, bro." He took another swag but then added. "I have nothing to buy parts or tools with though. If you provide all that we should probably say 40/60 until I have a little more disposable money.
From outside he could hear an all too familiar voice call Dom's name. Through the open garage door he could make out her slender figure on the porch. "Looks like dinner is ready." He said with a hint of sentiment in his eyes. Seeing Mia here was both a perk and downside of the job because she didn't even want to talk to him normally anymore.
"I'll keep working on this piece here." He mumbled and looked back at the dropped engine and went over there to slide the tranny out.

It was an awkward situation between the two, she couldn´t help but noticed how sad and hurt he looked by just listening to his voice and looking at his eyes. She looked down at her hands remembering the little chat she had with Dom and what he had to say about Brian.
Flashes of the last time the three of them had dinner came to her mind."Actually..." the words were at the tip of her tongue... "Would you like to have dinner with us?"

"Customer pays for all that upfront, then he pays labor." Dom looked back to engine bay of the civic. "That's the simplest way to do it." Admittedly, he wasn't sure how things would work out between them and Brian if Mia was going to be spying them much, and speaking of Mia, there she was saying dinner was ready. He kept silent and watched for Mia to say what he wanted her to say, instead of inviting Brian himself, he wanted his sister to show him that she was ready to move on herself, so when she did extent the invitation, he gave her a slight smile and made his way out of the garage, looking back at Brian.

With the transmission still in his hands he heard Mia say what he never expected to come out of her mouth. Not after their talk at the supermarket. She actually invited him in and nobody forced her to. It was hard to keep a straight face and not break out in a smile of relieve when he heard her words and somewhat friendly tone. Yet he waited to see Dom's reaction. The big guy howere turned his back on him which Brian took as a 'it's okay'. Why he was always tiptoeing around her brother when it came to Mia Brian would never understand. It had to be something that was instilled in him very early on in their relationship. Wiping his hands on a rag he nodded. "That would be nice." He was only steps behind Dom when his friend look back and Brian could tell he was pleased.
The ex-cop took two stairs at a time but kept a good safety distance from Mia while he offered her a slight smile. "Thanks, Mia." which meant much more thank just thanks for dinner. It was a peace offer on her side, which he appreciated a great deal.

Mia nodded at Brian´s words entering the kitchen serving the boys and giving them a Corona, she hesitated whether she should stay to have dinner with them but at the last minute changed her mind as she took a third plate placing some of the food and taking a can of coke from the fridge. She took a seat next to Dom and Brian in front of the two siblings.
Dom started to eat making Mia glare at her brother. “Dom, you forgot to say grace,” She waited for Dom to start praying for their food.
Her brother smiled probably knowing she was going to say that. "So? You know the rules," chuckling, she placed her hands together waiting to hear Dom´s voice.

Dom was just about to say something as he could tell Mia was contemplating whether or not to stay, but was glad when she picked up her own plate and joined them. This was going to be the start of a fresh chapter for them, that he very much wished for.
All that time locked away meant it was pretty easy to overlook family formalities, or just forget them all together. Dom put the fork down and gave Mia a look that said 'really?' He folded his hands and dug around his brain for his old prayers. "Lord, we thank you for your provisions towards us, and we have gratitude in our hearts for being reunited as a family. We pray that you bless this food to our bodies, in Jesus name, amen."

"Amen," she reply smiling. "See, that wasn´t so hard," she finished saying and started to eat not saying a word just enyoing the meal, it felt like deja vu to have the three of them eat again..together.
She kept eating in silent, barely hearing the exchange of words between her brother and Brian. She wondered about Cole... she couldn´t get the kid out of her head, was he all right? What about Stephano? She hadn´t heard of him for a week now, and that japanese man, even Brian´s new family came to mind.

Brian didn't feel exactly comfortable in the Toretto house that night since he knew how Mia felt about him. It was strange to have Dom on his side for a change. A little stiff he walked into the room and took the seat opposite of Mia, who urged Dom to say grace. Brian avoided staring at her and instead watched Dom with interest. This brought back some old and older memories. "Just like old times." He stated before taking his fork and knife and looking at what Mia had cooked. The Italian dish smelled delicious and Brian was sure he had eaten it before. "Ossobucco?" He asked trying to remember the Italian name for the most tender meat that he had ever enjoyed.
When he finally looked at Mia hea could tell she was somewhere else with her thoughts so he started asking Dom questions about the garage. "So you have a lot of people coming in? How many a day? I guess word spreads fast that you're back in town."
He savored a bite in his mouth and then said politely. "This is delicious. Your moms recipe?" If he recalled it right most recipes were from her mother.

She was snapped out of her thoughts by Brian´s questions. "Thanks. Yes it is," she could tell Brian wasn´t comfortable and to be honest she didn´t feel comfortable either. A mixture of weirdness, tension, deja vu and a little bit of uncomfortable filled the air.
She looked at Dom as if asking him to say something... the silence was killing her. She looked down at her plate and continued eating some more. Her mom taught her well when it came to cooking and until this day knew what ingredients and the exact Italian food each member of her family loved, Mia even knew what Brian´s favorite was... having been with him in a long relationship.

"I get some guys coming to me on the streets that want stuff done, so I tell them to bring the car to this address. I don't really want everyone to know that I'm doing jobs now, I don't need more than two or three at a time." Dom said in between forkfuls. "Walter announcing my presences to the world sort of started this all off." He said with a small chuckle.
As always, when Mia made this dish it never failed to impress, even Gordon Ramsey would approve...not that Dom knew who he was. "Mom could've been quite the chef, a trait passed on to her." He nodded in his sister's direction. He could tell the air between Brian and Mia was tense to say the least, it was like one of those moments in highschool where ex's were suddenly paired up for a group project. So he decided to bring up a topic that they all had an hand in to some degree. "So I never asked you Brian, you notice a bunch of dressed up guys now walking around the streets like they own the show? There's mob stuff at races now, it's everywhere."

While eating some more Brian listened to Dom tell him about the jobs he got. Of course he knew Dom could easily run a big business with his street credit. "Why are you keeping it so small? Make a big business out of it." He leaned back and took a drink from the small bottle.
The conversation came back to their mothers cooking and Brian couldn't help but shoot the odd glance at Mia. It was strange to be sitting on one table just like before but know she didn't really want him there. In all the times they've been together she was always the welcoming one, not Dom. Only one time he felt the same odd vibe between them. That was when he they first met again at a small diner after several year of not seeing each other and Brian had started with the FBI.
He glanced back at Dom, who tore him out of his thoughts by changing the topic again. This time back to street racing. Brian loaded another spoonful into his mouth and nodded. "Mob. Yeah, I've seen them and I don't like it one bit? Why can't they stick to their old shit?" Briefly he smiled at Mia, who hated swearing over dinner. "Sorry." "They have a friend of mine driving for them. Kid is too blind to see where that road is going to lead. He thinks he's invincible." Nevertheless it made Brian wonder why Dom brought them up. "Are they bad for your business? I thought you..." He motioned for Mia, who he had seen at the Italian restaurant.
