You don't know what you've got until you lose it...
Yeah, Jack never truly got the meaning of those words until now. It was a little harder than usual, trying to do everything with his left hand. His bandaged and still lightly bleeding right hand was still throbbing with every move he made with it, though alcohol had dulled down the pain a bit to an at least somewhat acceptable level. Or maybe it had only brought him to a point where he just couldn't really care that much anymore...
Ha! as if.
The front right tire of the Challenger crashed carelessly onto the sidewalk as Jack parked the old Dodge in front of the Toretto house, aka the Fort. His normally lively hair was matted against his head as he stepped (or stumbled) out of his car, most likely making him look as miserable as he currently felt. With his injured hand clutched against his stomach and his teeth gritted, Jack walked the few steps up towards the front door of the house, and soon, a knock announced his arrival.

By the sounds of the tires it had to be Jack. They all seem to froze for a moment until she finally open the door, and was greeted by a horrifying sight.
The first thing she noticed was how pale Jack´s face was, his breathing wasn´t normal and when she looked down she could see his bandaged right hand soaked with so much blood. "What the hell happen?" still not knowing how bad his injure hand was until she try to change it. "Sam," she cursed and muttered his name under her breath.
"There´s no time, we have to take him to a hospital, there´s not a whole I can do..." she turned to Brian still placing some pressure to Jack´s hand, the blood was still pouring out, staining the new bandage on his right hand.

Dom followed Mia closely to the door as she beat him there. At first it took him a second to find anything wrong with Jack. He was half expecting a gunshot wound or something extremely pronounced by the way everyone reacted to that phone call a few minutes ago.
Soon enough, he caught sight of his hand. "Shit." Dom grumbled and shook his head. "I told you to get out of here, Jack." He said with an annoyed tone. He backhandedly knew that Jack never was going to leave, but Dom would bet he was starting to wish he would have. How much more intense were things going to get before this was over...if it ever would be over?
Mia's diagnosis sounded bleak. If there wasn't anything she or all people could do on the spot, then it was obviously a hospital issue. Dom wondered who, if anybody would be there waiting for him. He made a quick trip into supply closet and grabbed several soft cloths and handed them to Mia.

For the most part, Cole stayed in the background as he knew he should. He just barely caught a glimpse of Jack's hand. It was ugly. He always thought shaving body parts off as punishment or "motivation" was something from centuries ago, not something that you'd see in practice today. That was obviously wrong. He tried to think of something he could do to help but saw that Dom had that end covered, and it wasn't like anybody here besides Mia had any medical expertise.
For the time being, he just stood idly by and checked outside frequently for any additional, un-welcomed guests showing up on the property. You could almost make a bet that someone was watching Jack.

After having relieved himself of his stomach contents Sam thought about his further actions. Should he make sure Jack wasn't running? Quickly he disregarded that idea because Jack needed to come back to him if he wanted his fingers back and he didn't have a lot of time.
But Stephano was breathing down Sams neck and wanted additional pressure by kidnapping his older brothers babies. As sick as he already felt Sam set out to find out where the babies were currently kept. They were gone from the hospital when he arrived back there and the nurse told him that their father had had them discharged on his own account. "Damn." Sam muttered through gritted teeth. He hung around the place for a little longer while wondering where they could have taken the newborns when he overheard a call that came in. It was a question about nutrition and keeping newborns. Even though he didn't know who placed the call Sam figured it could be related to the O'Conner twins so he waited until the nurse left the station to check the phone display.
It didn't take a genius to follow the number to a motel out of town and even though their mother was armed and threatened to call the cops she obeyed when Sam held a gun to her head. "Call your brother in law and tell him he needs to get his head out of his ass now."
Soon the little ones were bundled up in his back seat and he hit the road wondering where on earth he could take two tiny babies.

The fact that Jack was coming to him was enough for Brian to know how bad things were but when he saw his brother hit the curb and stumble out bleeding and pale his brotherly instincts kicked in. All anger was forgotten for now as he opened the door and quickly understood what had happend. "If I get my hands on this guy he'll loose more than a few fingers."
Greatly worried he watched Mia unwrap his missing fingers and had to force himself not to look away because it looked so darn aweful. "Oh my..." he whispered. A moment late he knew that he'd be the one putting this Sam guy behind bars. The man deserved nothing less.
He grabbed Jack's arm and looked him in the eye. "We'll figure this out but only if you're working with us, Jack. Do you understand? You cannot go against these guys alone and it doesn't look like you're going to run. You got me?" For a moment he waited hoping his words would sink into his brothers thick skull. "Are you going to tell me what you lost and whether you can retrieve it? Cause that's the only reason I can think of why you're still around."
A moment later his phone rang. When Brian answered he quickly took the same shade of pale as his brother while the phone almost slipped from his shaking hands. He had a hard time listening to the end of what the caller had to say as he ran to the door. "I'm coming, are you still at the mo...? What? he said what?" Taking deep breaths and dropping his hand from the door knob he hung up and stared at the door before he turned to the others.
"They have our babies." He could barely get the words out.

She turned to see Brian the moment the words left his mouth. It was all out of control first Jack now Brian´s children. Her gaze darkened, that was it. A groan made her turn her head, she held the soft cloths Dom handed to her but it was useless. He was loosing blood "We have to go to a hospital, now" She raised her voice. Shock, angry, worry all in one second.
She dried Jack´s blood from her hands using one of the cloths and walked to where Brian was. "We´ll find them, okay?" she sounded so sure when she delivered those words to him, although in the inside she was beyond afraid, but Brian couldn´t break down, they all needed him right now.

Within the matter of seconds his world was upside down. If one thing truly meant the world to Brian it was those two kids. "I never should have left them." He studdered. The feelings running through him were beyond anything he had ever experienced. The angst and incredible helplessness that paralyzed him made his whole body shake and made him loose his ability to speak. Helpless he looked from one to another and back. Nobody seemed to have an answer and Mia's reassuring words did nothing for him right now, so he reached for his keys, shoved the gun in his belt and fumbled the door open. His footsteps to his car were anything but even and he could barely open it to sit inside when he started the engine just to break down. It was his fault. How could he leave Mira alone with them? He should have been there to protect them when there was a lunatic out there sending him pictures.

She knew her words wouldn´t do anything to him, he was broken. She turn back to Dom and Cole, "take him to the hospital," taking a quick look outside the window, Brian´s car was still there, Mia couldn´t leave him alone, she looked at Dom, if there was someone in that room that could understand what she couldn´t put into words was her brother. She got out of the house and approach slowly to the car openning the door.
His head was down on the steering wheel, sobbing, cursing, hitting, pouring out all of his anger, the hitting stop and he broke down again, it was hard to block her emotions. Mia rubbed his back. "I´ll take you to Mira," she offered.
It was impossible for him to drive and pray nothing happen to those babies, because right now all she wanted to do was to put a bullet in Sam´s head.

"Guess who won't be counting to ten anymore," he joked, albeit miserably, through gritted teeth when Mia started unwrapping the bloodied bandages from his injured hand. The stubs were still bleeding a bit, though thankfully not nearly as bad as they had the few seconds after his fingers had been cut off. The memory of it still made him a little queasy to the stomach, the snaps of his bones still resounding in his mind. He dreaded to think about what it would be like having to live with only eight digits for the rest of his life. Not a pleasant thought...
Jack pulled his hand away from Mia as soon as she started talking about hospitals. If it was one place he hated going, it was hospitals. "Do I look like I'm dying to you? I don't need a fucking hospital," he muttered. What he needed was to find the son of a bitch; give him a taste of his own medicine... but not before he had his fingers back of course.
He was pulled out of his darkening thoughts of revenge when Brian grabbed him by his arm, telling him he should cooperate for once in his life and what he had lost and whether he could retrieve it. After a hard stare down that seemed to last ages, but were mere seconds in reality, Jack finally relented, because in the end, even to him blood was worth more than money. Whether it was his own, or his family's.
"I didn't lose anything, and yes, I can retrieve it. It's a shipment of cocaine, worth over 7 million dollars, give or take... more when sold per quarter or gram..." He could barely look his brother in the eye when he answered, nor did he have to for very long when Brian's phone rang.
All color drained from his older brother's face before he rushed out of the house after having said something about his kids.

Brian had only been hanging on by a thread when Jack arrived with only 8 fingers. His nerves were raw and there wasn't a good outcome in sight even if they managed to take down a few of Stephanos guys. At least Jack had not lost the shipment of Cocain…incredible. How could the guy get involved in something like this. Brian was pretty sure they’d part ways once this was over if they were both still breathing. Then the call came..The call that his kids, who were barely a week old, had been kidnapped, tore the carpet out under his feet and made Brian loose the bit of self controll he still had. In complete and udder despair he was sobbing, hammering his fists against the stearing wheel, shaking and cursing but none of it made him feel any better. On the contrary: The more he did, the more he got frustrated so when Mia opened the door he almost jumped at her. She couldn't console him, not in the slightest so he grabbed the wheel until his knuckles turned white and stared ahead while tears were streaming down his clenched jaw. It took all he had not to scream. Instead he just pressed through gritted teeth. "Give me that file you have on him, Mia. I'll kill that bastard!" No more no less and Brian was determined to make his words true.

She could tell he wanted to scream and shook her head when he suddenly ask for Sam´s file. He was going to hate her even more. "If you want to go then you can go, but I am not giving you the file." she hesitated for a few seconds.
"You really want to have Sam´s attention then go to the hospital located downtown, his mother is there... Emily Ward," she didn´t recognize her voice for a moment, so cold, careless, not any emotion involved.
Sam had something very important to Brian: the twins. Now, Brian had something important in his hands too, the life of Sam´s mom. Sam might be a killer, but something told her he wouldn´t mess with newborns not when your mother´s life was on the line...

When Mia told him he wasn't getting the file he lost it. Slamming his fist against the dashboard he yelled at her. "You don't get it, do you? He's got my kids, Mia! I have to find him now before he hurts them! Give me his adress!" Brian glared at her because he couldn't believe that Mia wouldn't give him the adress.
"I don't care about his attention. What good is it if I hurt his mother when he's got my babies? All I want is for them to be safe!" Mia's idea had something about it but ti wasn't enough. "Do you have his number so we can call him when we reach his mother? Mia?" Brian was ready to jump at her if she didn't give him what he wanted. "Whose side are you on?"

She let him yell at her but didn´t like his last question, "Who do you think, Brian? Of course with you and your brother!" she let out a little of her anger, how could he think or doubt whose side was she at the moment? Wasn´t it obvious?
"Do you think Sam will take that chance to hurt your children when the only thing he has in this world is his mother?!" It wasn´t a ´answer the question´but more of a ´Do you see what I´m trying to say?´ Her heart was beating so fast. "I do have his number," she let him know, when the only thing she wanted to do was yell at him too but again she had to remind herself what the situation was...

Brian listened to her words only half heartedly but they did make some sense and it was unlikely that the guy would bring his kidnapped children to his own apartment.
So he turned his head to Mia when she started yelling and squinted his eyes at her. The girl surely had a temper. Her words were what made him change his mind though.
"What are we waiting for then." He stated dryly and took a deep breath. Without saying a word he scooted over in the passenger seat and handed her the keys. "Hurry up." Was all he added before he buckled up and tried to somewhat calm down putting his head between his knees and blending out everything as much as he could.
By the time they got to the hospital his back was sweat soaked and his hands still shaking. Brian's heart beat was still much higher than usually when he jumped out of the car and headed for the floor Mrs. Ward was on.
Up there he introduced himself as her nephew and entered the room without asking. The woman was in intensive care and Brian was lucky not to get thrown right out again. "We have visitation hours..." The nurse complained but Brian was already at the confused womans side showing her the picture of his kids. "Do you know who this is?" The old lady gasped and shook her head. "Those are my kids and your son is holding them hostage." "What? I don't understand? Sam?" Her eyes darted back and forth between the picture and Brian. Then she tried to reach for the red call button on her bed but Brian slapped her weak hand away. "No!" The ex cop took the phone from Mia and held it to the old woman's head. "You call him right now and tell him to let my babies go." "You must have him confused. My son's a salesman."

Mia turned to the nurse. "This is important and we can´t wait... we´ll be gone in less than five minutes," the nurse gave look at Brian quickly entering the room and nodded looking at Mia one last time. "Make it quick," she simply said and Mia hurried inside the room.
She closed the door just in time to see Sam´s mom panic for a moment reaching for the red call button. "Brian!" she had to push him a little away from the ill woman giving her time to breath a little. "Ma´am please, just give Sam a call..." she offered a quick smile while she make the call she looked to Brian not saying a word.
"Sam..." she turned when the ill woman in front of her mention her son´s name, they could clearly hear Sam´s voice at the other end of the line.

Brian had this situation all worked out in his head. He would punch her, make her scream, anything to get the guy on the other end of the line hurt like he was hurting but now that he had an old defenseless, sick lady in front of him, he could. All he managed to do when she said. "There are two people here, saying that...." was to put his hand over her mouth and make her squeal a little when he took the phone from her hands. "Listen, SAM, you have my kids and I have your mother. The last thing I want is to hurt her but I will if I have to so let my babies go."
The guy on the other line turned his head away in anger. Why didn't he move his mother when he had the chance. This was predictable. So he yelled into the phone. "No, you listen. You get the hell away from your mother and I might let one of those babies get back to you." With that he hung up. Brian stared at the phone in disbelieve and then at Mia. "What now?"

Sam´s words were loud and clear. She ran her hand through her hair, what now? That was a good question. Visitation hours were not permitted at the moment, would he come back to his mother side? What would Sam do? What could they do? There was no other place she could go to find him, besides where could Sam go with two newborns? She was at a loss of words.

The woman in the bed looked as confused as Brian and Mia looked desperate. So Brian took Mia outside by her hand and leaned against the wall. "Does it make sense to try and take her? I don't think so. Mia, that's not who we are. This woman has nothing to do with what her son does." He ran a shaky hand over his face and tried to figure it all out. "Why don't you stay here and see if he comes by and I go to his adress and see if he's there? He reached for the file in her bag. "Please, Mia? I need to find my kids."

The woman was still adamant about her son being a salesman, Brian took her hand and led her outside, she followed him and listen to his words. He had a point... to kidnap or hurt an ill woman, it wasn´t like them to do that. The only way to find Sam was to wait there at the hospital. She looked at the file in his hand and sighed. "Alright, I´ll stay. Just... be careful," she looked at him one more time before she went back to the room.
