That day Brian didn't go to pick up Mia after the late shift as he had done in the past days. Instead he called her and left the brief message. "I'm not going to make it today, sorry. Heading to bed now." That was all Brian could come up with because his head was throbbing and blood still trickling down from his nostrils. Jack had done a fucking awesome job when he placed that punch right on the bridge of his nose. Stumbling into the empty house Brian almost ran into the door frame because his one eye was almost swollen shut. "For fucks sake." he kept muttering over and over again. All the curses were directed at his brother now because he had turned Brian's beautiful victory on the streets into a sad loss. What was worse was that he had more or less admitted that he cared about his older brother, so Brian couldn't even be as furious as he should be considering that he had received a broken nose, bruised rib and some other minor dents that weren't even worth mentioning on the old chassis. Rummaging through the freezer Brian retrieved two bags of frozen peas and left a set of bloody finger prints on the white plastic in exchange. One he placed on his neck, the other on his eye when he went into the living room just to carefully lower himself on the sofa with his head slightly over the edge so he wouldn't get the fabric bloody. "Damn you, Jack." He once again muttered before he closed his eyes. He'd be sore for a few days but once this was over he'd return the favor to the younger sibling....that was if the guys survived his latest flash drive experience. For a brief moment Brian even considered taking Monica up on her offer to rat out Jack.

It was strange for Brian not to show up. She remembered telling him about how she had to stay late and how he agree to pick her up,she didn´t remember he mentioned Mira or how his work was keeping him a little more, so for him to leave a message telling her he was heading to bed, meant something was wrong.
Last thing she remembered as she made her way out of the hospital was talking to her boss, and how she had the green light to go home and take the day off the next day, it was late, dark but that didn´t stop her, she could´ve call a cab but her safety was the last thing in her mind, all she wanted to do was to get home and talk to Brian, for the last month he was staying with her, still no sign of Dom. She hurried, it looked like five minutes or ten went by and she was already to blocks away from home, instead of walking she started to run not knowing what she was going to find the moment she opened the door.
Now, inside the house she called out to him, the light of the kitchen was on, the blood was more visible than the color on the counter. "Brian!" she raced through the patio but there was no sign of him, she entered once again and noticed him on the sofa, she turned on the light of the living room just to see his shirt and nose stain with blood, his swollen eye, it was terrible "Oh gosh. Who did this to you?" Her voice started to trail off, it was hard to prevent any emotion to get to her but he wasn´t waking up. She didn´t know how bad his injuries were, she tried one more time to wake him up, shaking his shoulder trying to get any reaction from him, if he didn´t wake up she was calling an ambulance. "Brian, wake up!"

It had been really hard to go to sleep in the first place but it was the only escape from the pain that had consumed his body. Sleep, what a blessing when it finally came. Brian knew he should have cleaned off the fridge and made his way upstairs to prevent Mia from worrying but he simply didn't have the energy left.
Somebody shook him making Brian wake with a start and instinctively fight off the hand that was jabbing at him. His first thought was that it was Jack who had come back for him so his hand pushed 'him' away because he couldn't see much. He did, however, recognize the long dark hair in the bright light of the living room. "Mia." He groaned and closed his eyes again. At first he was a little relieved that it was only her. Then again, she was the one person, who actually cared for him, so she'd be overly worried. He rolled his head to the side to look at her but stayed where he was with his arm still wrapped around his midsection where Jacks fist had bruised his ribs. "I got in a fight." He explained what was absolutely obvious. To clarify things a little more he added. "After a race." Then he motioned for the bright overhead lights. "Could you turn that off?"
To be honest Brian was a little happy to see his nurse girl friend get home because he hadn't had much success with his self treatment. It looked like this was one of those moments where her profession could come in handy. "Don't be mad." He mutter through split lips to prevent her from getting angry at him. Hopefully it would work.

A sigh of relieved release all the tension and how much stress she was starting to feel because Brian wouldn´t wake up. “Since when do you get in fights after a race?” He sounded convincing but there was more to that, a fight? Yes, but after a race? She wasn´t believing that last part.
She went to the bathroom to take the first aid kit. “I will turn the lights off when I am done cleaning all the blood. I am not too sure about your nose…” as much as she tried to speak calmly he could clearly hear how the anger was starting to make its way up to her voice.
Mia cleaned the majority of the little wounds he had, his split lip, his nose which she still didn´t know if it was broken, his swollen eye, his ribs. She walked to the kitchen to fill a glass with water, taking some medicines with her. “Take this, should take the pain away. I am taking you to the hospital first thing in the morning,”
“Don´t be mad” She scoffed hearing his words “I will be if you don´t tell me the truth, Brian. So, I am going to ask you one more time: Who did this to you?” her anger was winning, she could feel it in her shaky hands. The Toretto temper ready to kill whoever did this to him.

Her tone became a little softer for a moment but there were clear doubts in her voice when he stated that he fought after a race. A race that had happened during the day in heavy traffic. He was luckz if no traffic camera had caught them. "I don't." He remarked because usually things were settle behind the wheel and there only.
Of course Mia would simply turn off the lights but jumped right into nurse mode, which was at least partly welcome. "Forget the lip.." He protested when she started dabbing at it with alcohol. "My nose hurts like a b$%#." As soon as she touched it the blood started trickling down again. "I swear that bastard broke it." He tried touching the bridge himself but soon dropped his head groaning loud and annoyed, mostly because the whole fight had been useless and stupid in the first place. Why would Jack dish out insults and punches, when he was supposed to have a guilty conscience.
With a frown Brian lifted his head from the couch and drank the glass of water to wash down a few small pills. He wasn't going to no hospital but knew well enough not to say that right now because Mia would be very adament about it. Her words became more demanding and harsher when she wanted to know did it. "I'm telling you the truth. The guy was a sore looser. I won. Left him standing in the dust. His car got clipped by a truck and he didn't like it so much."
The sparkle in her eyes let Brian know that she was about to pour that whole bottle of rubbing alcohol straight up his nose if he didn't tell her right away so he sighed. Oh that Toretto temper! "C'mon, what does it matter?" Hopefully she'd leave it at that because the last thing Brian needed was Mia on Jacks case any more than she already was. "Let it go." He pressed out while trying to pinch his nostrils close. What a effing mess! Having a broken nose was a new experience and not a pleasant one. It was only fair enough though because Brian had punched his brothers nose in two or three times before.

He was trying so hard for her to believe his words "Come on, Brian. You are not telling me the truth," she took a deep breath. She had Jack at the back of her mind, every time the brothers bump into each other, the only way for them to deal with each other and find a way to say: ´I miss you too, bro´ was by punchin each other and acting like six year old kids.
"It matters because you are trying to change what really happen. I will not let it go," she gripped the alcohol bottle in her hand. "Too bad I can´t stuck this bottle up your nose, I could loose my license for that..." It had to be Jack who did this, why else would he be avoiding the truth and try for her to believe what he said?
"Jack did this, didn´t he?" setting the bottle in the floor, cleanning the blood that was still coming out of his nose, she didn´t care her hands had some of Brian´s blood. "If the bleeding doesn´t stop, I am taking you to the hospital, I don´t care if you don´t want me to..." she shook her head a little frustrated that the blood kept pouring out of his nose.

Even though Brian was in pain right now Mia just wouldn't let it go. She kept asking who punched him and probably wouldn't stop until she got some name. The ex-cop rolled onto his back to see her better but all it caused was the pain in his ribs to flare up so he pulled his knees up and grimaced. "Goodness, Mia!" her look told him that she wouldn't let the topic go even if he was missing an arm. "I'm not changing anything." Mia was a smart girl though. She simply guessed the right person all by herself so Briangave in with a nod. "Yeah." The wiping away of the trickling blood didn't really help much so he placed his hand on hers to hold it and look at her. "Don't worry about it. I have more shirts upstairs. Do you have any cotton?" With weary eyes he watched her get up but held her by her arm for a moment. "This is between me and Jack, okay?" Brian needed to make sure that the hot blooded Italian wasn't going after his brother just to receive a shitstorm herself. Jack would no hold back much just because she was a girl. At least not with words. scratch the gun...sorry couldn't resist- I love Running Scared!

To see him nod his head brought up more anger and didn´t calm her one bit. “You are asking me not to worry about it? How-What…” she paused for a long moment trying to find the right words but all she wanted was to kill Jack. He held her arm; he could clearly see how she was ready to snap at any second. “This has to stop! What´s going to happen next? Am I going to find you in a hospital in critical condition next time you guys bump into each other?” it was no good to cry anymore. When will Jack be able to see enough was enough? She sat down on the floor next to him, feeling how the anger started to raise her heartbeat, she took a few minutes to really let her anger decrease, she was just livid to see him injured again. “Your way of dealing with your brother is to beat each other again. I can´t promise you anything right now, I can´t just sit back and do nothing. This is it, Brian. Next time he comes around don´t expect me to not say a thing, because honestly all I want to do is kill him right now,”

For a moment Brian didn't know what was worse. The beat down he'd received or Mia's anger. For now he'd go with the later. Mia could become pretty scary when she was angry. She was a firecracker which slowly built up steam before it exploded and Brian didn't fancy being on the receiving end of it.
“This has to stop! What´s going to happen next? Am I going to find you in a hospital in critical condition next time you guys bump into each other?” She glared at him so he laughed it off with a. "Don't be ridiculous." Then again Jack didn't seem to care much about what condition his brother would be in afterwards. What if Piper hadn't gone in between the two of them? Did Mia maybe have a point?
At least Mia sat down on the floor to let her anger blow away instead of tearing into Brian, which gave him a moment to close his eyes. Then she stated matter of factly that next time Jack would come around she'd give him a piece of her mind. Brian frowned at her. "He won't come around and this is between him and me. I threw just as many punches, just didn't hit as well..." Brian tried to change the topic by adding. "I won the race though! By far!" He couldn't help that little smirk creeping up on his red features. At least he took home that victory, which was more important to him. Letting go of his nostrils he asked innocently. "How about those cotton balls?" Hopefully Mia would simply leave the topic alone now. Brian was pretty sure that Jack and her would not bump into each other since his brother had his plate full and was on the run.

“Am I really being ridiculous? Because all I see is you and your brother getting worse every time you see each other,” she didn’t feel she was overreacting at all! This fight could´ve been worse and avoided too…
“He will come back, it´s the normal thing for people to do, for siblings to do even if they hate each other…” He tried the ´this is between him and me´ speech. “Stop that, you can try all you want to change my mind, but I´ve had it with him…” she gave him a look when he started to tell her about the race, but didn´t say anything else.
She stood up and came back with more cotton balls, taking the ones stuck up his nose replacing them with new ones. Brian was so sure about not seeing Jack again, but destiny had a funny way to change things.

Mia picked a really bad moment to give him a speech. Sure she was furious now but couldn't this wait? So Brian decided to simply swallow all come backs and comments and let her have her temper moment. Clearly she believed that the race was a bunch of crap, maybe because it had happened in broad daylight so Brian narrowed his eyes but still remained silent.
When she came back to shove the cotton balls up his nose in a non too gentle way he flinched back and finally let a bit of his frustration out. "You do realize that hurts, right?" He gave her a mild glare. Mia out of all the people should know. But maybe that's how she handled all her 'patients'. Brian doubted it though because she usually wasn't in a relationship with them and angry as can be.
He finally pushed himself up to a sitting position, which was everything but comfortable, and sighed. "I know. Me and Jack don't get along. He's just...." Brian waved his hands in the air looking for the right word but couldn't find it. "...Jack. I mean you can't talk to the guy. It's not like when you and me talk. You have some sense. Jack doesn't." Pressing his index finger and thumb against his forehead frowned. "It's always been like this, Mia. It'll never change."

“You do realize that hurts, right?" It wasn´t the time or the right person to take out all of her anger. “I´m sorry…” she stood up from the floor now that he sat down, she joined him. “I just hate to see you hurt, and hate knowing that this could happen again,”
“Oh believe me, he will listen” taking a hold of his hand. “The painkillers that I gave you will make you sleepy. Let´s go upstairs so you can rest better than here in this couch,” the Jack topic was closed for now, she couldn’t promise Brian not to try to talk to Jack, he had a point about Jack being…simply Jack but she would find a way for him to listen to her.
All she knew was that next time she saw him; all hell was going to break loose. Mia was a very kind person but she had her temper, a temper that only Brian and Dom had witness. A damn temper that would scare the toughest men to the point of making them want to run away and hide from her.

Brian didn't doubt for one moment that Mia would be able to make Jack 'listen'. She would most likely leave a permanent impression on his brother once her anger was unleashed. "I know." Brian muttered. "That's what I'm worried about." Brian had gotten on her bad side more than once. Mia, who was so mild mannered 90% of the time, but could be fierce and scary. Her eyes would sparkle and you'd have to be worried, not about violence but to loose her respect and affection for good. In addition you'd have her brother against you...there came the physical aspect. Again Brian rubbed his hand over his forehead. With his strength long gone after a day of work, a race and a fight, he could definately feel the effects of the painkillers. His eyes were only half open while he listened to her. "That's not a bad idea but..." He was about to mention that his ribs hurt like a b@#$ch but stopped himself because it would only spark her anger again. Slowly he got up and walked to the door. "I feel 50 years old, make that 60!" He complained when setting one foot after the other on the steep wooden stairs that led to the second floor. Now that he was in his thirties he could definetly feel the reckless, harder punch of his younger brother. It hadn't always been like this. There were times when Jack simply couldn't keep up with him. Slowly he climbed stair after stair until he was finally upstairs and in the spare bedroom where he'd been sleeping since he moved in. he sat down on the edge when he remembered something that Piper had said....something about a chip and mafia. "I think he's in trouble again."

She heard him agree with going upstairs and get into bed; he would appreciate it a little in the morning. “..But your ribs hurt… I know…” it took a little more effort to sit, because of the pain another minute passed by and he stood up, she helped him.
Mia tried to block out the groans of pain, he then complained about feeling 30 years older. “Wait until you wake up tomorrow,” the painkillers were going to help a little, but most of the time the pain double the next day. After minutes of walking up the stairs and into the spare room, he sat on the edge and waited for him to lie down.
"I think he's in trouble again." the way he said it, sounded it like he knew something was up “I am sure he is,” Jack wasn´t the type of person to stay out of trouble, it looked like Jack didn´t like peace in his life, always looking for trouble, no matter how little… he always found a way to piss off people, to get into fights or to even make people want to kill him.

From experience Brian knew Mia was right. The next two days would be worse than right now and Brian was definetly not looking forward to it. "Can't wait." He remarked sarcastically when he remembered that the next day would be a work day. On top of that he had simply taken the car he borrowed home instead of asking his boss and never returned to work that day. "Oh man, I forgot to tell my boss that I'm not coming back...he might have called the police on me already. It's his car down on the street." With some effort Brian fumbled the phone from his pocket and dialled the number. "Hey...yeah I know...." He held the phone a foot from his ear because he didn't want to listen to the speech. "I'm sorry, boss. I was having so much fun, got a little carried away...and then drove home. I'll bring the car with me tomorrow." He bit his lip because he had no idea how he'd get out of bed the next day or explain the way he looked, plus the few scratches on the car. "Or the day after, feeling a little under the weather right now...no!" His face scrunched up when he heard the insults. "I'm not stealing your car, you got my adress, if you need it tonight, come and get it." The owner of the garage went on about 'can't simply drive off and not come back,...theft....calling the police." "Hang on a minute, don't call the police. I'll bring it back right now." Brian groaned and hung up the phone. With a deep sigh he looked at the wall opposite of him and then Mia. "Could you do me a favour and go half way across town with me and then bring me back? I need to return the car."

She watched him take out his phone and call his boss, Mia could barely understand what his boss was shouting at him, good thing he removed his phone from his ear, if not he was going to be deaf because of those screams.
Mia scoffed when Brian mention feeling under the weather, it was more than that but kept her mouth shut, hearing the non-stop screams and how Brian was a thief, she wanted to just grabbed the phone from his hands and give his boss a piece of her mind too, besides Jack.
Brian promised his boss he was going to take the car back at this moment. He groaned she wasn’t sure if it was the argument or the pain he felt every time he moved, his ribs were bruised badly. “Yes, I´ll drive. We´ll take a cab to come back home, “He was going to complain, she just knew it. But, there was no way in hell she was going to let him drive, not when he was sore and the painkillers were making him sleepy.

His heart rate had picked up because of his boss yelling at him and threatening to call the police on him. Instantly his head started throbbing again while he curse the old man for being so stubborn and himself for getting into a race with Jack in the first place.
Mia's suggestion wasn't bad at all even if it cost them a bit to take a cab across town. "Probably not a bad idea." Brian agreed to Mia's surprise. "Maybe we can take the bus back or call...Dom?" Brian had only seen her brother a few days ago but didn't know where he currently was. "Maybe not Dom...maybe one of your girl friends."
Brian went to the dresser to pull out a new shirt and struggled out of his old one that was little appetizing to look at. For a second he checked his side to make sure everything was still where it was supposed to be and then tossed Mia the car keys. "Let's go."
The ride across town was rough and long giving Brian more time to think about what happened while he watched the houses, picket fences, older buildings and finally shops fly by. His thoughts went back to the crazy race that had happened in broad day light against all traffic regulations. A small smirk played on his lips when he recalled drifting across the intersection at the red lights. What a rush that was.
Then he thought about the fight...why they had started and what Jack had eventually said. "You know what Jack said to me afterwards? He said he did care about me and something about knowing that he ruined my family." Brian rolled his head over to look at Mia, who was focused on the traffic.

“We´ll figure it out…” she would take a cab instead of calling Dom. She waited while he removed his bloody shirt tossing it on the ground and slowly placing a new, fresh shirt. It took a few minutes but she understood he had to take his time; his ribs were hurting a lot. She caught the keys when he tossed them to her.
Walking down the stairs was another painful thing for him to do, the sharp pain could be seen in every move he made, his face would have this frown, and the way he grit his teeth.
*** Mia had to stop at a red light listening to him. “What did he say to you?” she wasn’t expecting to hear Jack say those words, she had to look at him to see if he was joking. “Are we talking about the same Jack? Really?” the light turned green and she kept driving.
“Wow…” speechless, that was the best word to describe how she felt when Brian revealed hearing Jack say those words.

"Seems like Jack has a heart after all. He just expresses his love in a very twisted way." Brian sarcastically remarked as he grinned for a second. It was good to know that Jack hadn't written him off and felt somewhat guilty for breaking him and Mira up. "What he doesn't know is that we're back together...maybe I should thank him.' Brian added. of course the situation was aweful, especially when it came to the kids, but it also had something good. The fact that it brought him and Mia closer again.
-- By the time they had made their way across town it was almost 8 pm and Brian had fallen asleep with his head against the side window, which felt nice and cool. Drousily he opened his eyes. It wasn't hard to remember what had happened with a throbbing headache and painfully swollen face. "What do I tell him? He's going to want to know what happened." For a moment he hoped Mia would drop the keys off for him but then he didn't want to make her his delivery girl in a bad situation like this.
Inside the garage the lights were still on giving away that the owner was waiting. So Brian pushed himself out of the seat and nodded at Mia. "Keys, please?" Then he walked around the car taking a deep breath while he was quickly scanning the outside of the car for damages. Except for a few nicks and scrapes it looked fine.
"O'Conner." He was greeted by a deep voice when the old man showed up in the open doors to cast a quick glance at him. "Bout time you bring my car back." Without even looking at Brian he noticed Mia behind the wheel. "You let your girlfriend drive?" Approaching the car he leaned on the open window to look at Mia. "Hi, I'm Manny." The man actually looked quite friendly as long as his eyes were on the pretty brunette.

"Seems like Jack has a heart after all.“ She chuckled and kept driving. “That is hard to believe…” it had been quite a while since Mia saw Jack, he was right about Jack not knowing they were back together. She looked at Brian when he mentioned he should thank his brother. She smiled and focused her attention back on the road. -- She placed her hand on his forehead as he started to open his eyes. He took his time to rub the sleep off his eyes. “Let him know somebody decided to steal from you and you had to fight back,” Giving the keys back should take less than a second maybe she would just go up to his boss and give them to him.
But Brian opened the door and slowly moved asking her for the keys and she handed them to him just in time to hear his boss. His boss ignored Brian completely and didn’t even stop to see him closely or show concern for his injuries, looked like she was the center of attention now. It was easy to see that, the way he invaded her personal space in a matter of seconds felt… very uncomfortable.
“Hi, I´m Mia… if you´ll excuse me,” she motion for him to move so she could open the door and get out. Once she was out of the car she stood next to Brian grasping the back of his shirt making it seem she had her arm around his waist but because of his ribs she didn’t actually place her arm around him only taking a hold of his shirt.
“It´s getting late, we should really get going.” Taking a quick look at her watch hoping Brian would also play along.
