It was obvious that Jack was angry as can be. He didn't even shower Brian with his famous curse words but remained silent and that just wasn't a good sign. Brian himself was starting to feel pretty sour as well. He could practically feel his knee swell up due to his brothers freindly encouragement to leave the crutches behind and them ditching him on the side of the highway. The idiot had probably thrown him back a month in therapy. Maybe sitting on his ass and feeling sorry for himself would have been the wiser option. Gritting his teeth he rubbed his hand over his thigh and shot Jack and unfriendly look.
For the next 20 miles no word was spoken as both brothers stared at the scenery flying by and got lost in thoughts. Brian tried to ignore Jacks huffs as good as he could.
But after a while Brian made another attempt to apologize. "I'm really sorry. I know you love your car. It's going to be as good as new soon, okay?" When Jack didn't asnwer right away he added. "There's a rest stop. I have to take a leak."

"Not by your hands, and I told you to shut up." He growled lowly. He didn't want to be reminded yet again of what had happened to his car, not until he had to look at it and fix it anyway. He'd be damn well doing that by himself. As far as he was concerned, his brother wasn't touching the Evo ever again, not even with a ten feet pole
He took the appointed exit toward the rest stop in silence, bringing the Evo to a skidded stop on a parking spot near the building. He may be in asshole-mode, but he had seen how Brian had been rubbing his knee. He was still his brother.. Sadly.
Turning the engine off and pulling the keys from the ignition, he got out of the car before Brian could say anything else. While he squinted against the sun, his hand immediately reached down his pocket for his smokes, his brow furrowing when all he found was the damned package to be empty. Crap.. He needed something else to take the edge off of his mood and usually nicotine helped do the trick, unhealthy as it was. Maybe they had a vending machine or some shit inside, but did he bring his wallet, or money at all for that matter?.. Nope! This afternoon just seemed to keep getting better and better..
"Got a few bucks?" He mumbled, not even bothering to look at Brian. Probably not the best attitude to sport when scavenging for money, but he was just too damned stubborn to admit he had been at fault, too.

Brian crawled out of the beat up side of the Evo and for the first time had a good look at it. Even the door had been dented so badly that it didn't shut one hundred percent anymore. The sight made him feel pretty bad. Not only because she was Jacks baby but because she was a pretty damn fine car before Brian had puts his hands on her. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a 10 dollar note. "Knock yourself out." This time he actually meant it. The he brushed by his brother and hobbled to the building to find a bathroom.
Brian stood with his palm against the white tiles of the bathroom and read the bathroom poetry somebody had left there. It made him smirk, lighhtened the mood a bit before he zipped it up, washed his hands and went to the small room lined with small tables and a long bar in search for the blonde jackass he called his brother. Through the milky glass he spotted him outside blowing out some smoke. Brian dugg in his pocket for more money and found enough for a coke. "...with lots of ice, please." He grabbed the cup and stepped outside into the hot midday sun next to Jack. "So how can I make up for this?"

Jack took a long drag from his cigarette, puffing out halos of smoke soon after while he contemplated on simply ignoring his brother. He was perfectly fine when he had been standing here alone, his mood had even lightened up a bit.. But than, even if he was treating his brother like shit, Brian was still making an effort, wasn't he?
"I don't know, pay for the damage.. Maybe finally admit you're a suck ass driver.." He mumbled with a shrug, his last words being spoken with a barely there smirk on his face. Even if he was still pissed, making fun of Brian was just too much.. well.. fun.
He took another drag from his cigarette before he pushed the butt out against the wall, his eyes drifting over Brian momentarily. Without having payed much attention, he had still noticed the limp in his brother's walk was stronger than before. Probably his doing. He really shouldn't have left Brian to walk home, even if his better judgment had convinced him to turn back rather quickly. And for that, he was still glad there hadn't been any cops around during his stunt performances, or his next trial would have been fucked before it even started.
"Sorry.." He finally mumbled, not specifying what he was actually sorry for. He figured Brian would know, but if not, well, he just hoped his brother wasn't going to push his guilty conscious.

With a nodd Brian agreed to paying the damage...with what remained to be seen. His pockets were so empty he was glad he could still afford to buy a coke. If it hadn't been for Mias income he would have had to borrow money a while ago. The next comment was ignored with a shrugg. Right now was probably a good time to just shut up and suck up the insults.
Brian shielded his eyes against the sun and looked at the cars pulling in and out of the lot. He couldn't help but let his eyes wander over to the Evo. From here the damage didn't even look so bad. "Sorry." Did he hear that right? Jack was apologizing? He did grow up after all. The smirk spreading on his face gave away his surprised and satisfaction. In one way or the other the apology...as short as it was ...helped even though Brian wasn't really sure what the apology was for. It did feel good especially coming from Jack. "Don't worry about it." He clapped Jack on the shoulder and offered him a drink. It was too tempting though. "What are you apologizing for?"

"For not knocking your head off your shoulders earlier. What do you think?" He mumbled while he took the offered coke. A long drink followed while he just stared ahead, avoiding looking at the Evo at all costs. Damn, how he wished he was slurping away something alcoholic instead, strooongly alcoholic. At least than he might have been able to see the humor in all of this.
"I shouldn't have left you.. walking, I guess." He finally managed to admit out loud. Surely that part they'd be laughing about in the future though, right..? He gave the cup back to his brother while he nodded toward the Evo, it's black paint job shining in the sunlight, looking like nothing was wrong with it. If only..
"Are we even now?"

The grin spreading on his face when Jack actually apologized-in detail- was impossible to hide. His jaw dropped slighty in to express his disbeleive. "Wow, you do like me after all." Brian mocked. He truly enjoyed this moment despite the unfortunate circumstances. Who would have thought he had to wreck his brothers car to get a sincere apology out of him. "No, we're not. I still owe you." He finally answered. After drinking the last few sips Brian threw the cup in a garbage can and limped back to the car. "You sure you don't want any help fixing this beauty?"

"I wouldn't bask in it too long, dipshit. I'm still gonna kick your ass when your knee's healed up." He grumbled while he walked toward the car alongside his limping brother. The grin on Brian's face was actually somewhat amusing to say the least. Was an apology coming from his mouth really that special? Like he had never said sorry before, though it was quite the rarity of course.. Ah well, whatever made the idiot happy he guessed.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I doubt you'll be of much help anyway.. old man." He smirked, shooting Brian a wink before he slid behind the wheel. The engine started before his brother had even been able to park his ass in the passenger's seat, but unlike last time, he did wait for the door to be closed before the car shot out of the parking space. Soon the Evo sped down the highway once more, it's destination: back fucking home! where he could dump his brother and maybe kick the shit out of something in a most likely drunken state when he was alone. This really wasn't something he was going to be forgetting any time soon..

Brian slumped down in the bucket seat while he muttered "You*ll have to wait for that a long time." in regards to his brothers thread. The sound of the engine tore him out of his darkening mood and reminded him that Jack had just lowered himself to an apology. "I think I'll have to call mum tonight and tell her that you..." He chuckled to himself. As if he would call their mother, who he hadn't talked to in months. The poor woman had tried to get a hold of him but Brian didn't want to lie to her and tell her everything was fine when in reality his days had been boring and the future bleak. Once again he was reminded that´the ride would end all too soon and he'd go back to parking his ass on the couch. He ran a hand over his sweaty forhead and looked at the other cars. Despite the bashed up side Jack was flying past car after car. "How's Faye?" He tried to have a conversation less loaded with guilt.

"Tell her that I what..?" He snorted, raising his eyebrows slightly in question when he shot a glance at his brother. It had always been Brian's oldest threat in the book, tell either parent whenever he had pulled a stunt. It had gotten him in to more trouble than he had bargained for every single time, even if his brother was joking now. At least he hoped he was..
"She's fine.." He mumbled while he rubbed one hand over the stubble of his chin, the other resting comfortably on the steering wheel. It was just a standard answer, he honestly didn't even know how she was. She wasn't talking much about what had happened and he had a nagging feeling that wasn't anywhere near a good sign. But than.. what could he do? He wasn't going to force or push.
He flashed his lights at some slowpoke in front of him, signaling for the rust bucket to take a hike. What was the fucker even doing on the third lane at this speed? After maneuvering passed the car, he shot another glance at his brother. Before the disastrous end of the Evo's side, the ride had actually kinda been like old times and.. dared he say, somewhat fun?
"You still wanna go to friday night's races?"

Of course he wanted to. "Sure." He answered a little lerss excited than he usually would have. "But...I mean the Skyline evaporated and ..." He waved his hand at the right side of the car. "Just watching isn't much fun. Then again what else can I do?" There it was again that damn self-pity. He grew tired of it himself. If only he could race again and run and swim and all the stuff he enjoyed. "Hey." He grabbed Jack right sleeve and pointed at an exit sign. "They say there's a really cool beach up here. Want to check it out?" Maybe today was the day to finally really get over his obstacles and inhibitions.

Jack furrowed his brow slightly at the exit sign. Did he really want to go to the beach with the Evo's side looking like it had been put through a grater? Ah, who cared. Might as well get the edge off of his mood before he'd arrive home. It was still a beautiful day and he figured the damage could wait. He couldn't do shit about it now anyway, not until new parts were ordered.
"I'm not gonna have to be digging your crippled ass out of the sand though, am I?" He grinned, switching toward the exit's lane. "Cause you know I'll just leave you there.." He joked. As bad and perhaps too early for it as it was, it still made him chuckle. The look Brian had sported when he had just driven off without him..
He pulled the car up near the boardwalk by the sand barely twenty minutes later, his eyes wandering ahead. With the nice and tight bodied chicks, clad in small excuses for bikinis scattered all over the beach, the blue waters reflecting the hot sun not too far away.. He could already feel his foul mood disappearing into thin air. Oh yeah, this was definitely a cool place.
"Good idea, bro." He smirked, clapping Brian on the shoulder before he got out.

The beach looked awesome just the way a great beach was supposed to look. A wide stretch of sand on which beautiful girls and cheerful guys were hanging out. Even more inviting were the gently rolling waves that sparkled in the sun. Brian wiped a couple of sweaty strand of hair from his forehead and smiled. It was a shy smile but it was there. He climbed out of the partly wrecked car and shielded his eyes against the sun before he slid down his sunglasses from the top of his head. "Now we're talking." Getting more eager he rubbed his hands together and wondered what underwear he had on underneath his cargos and whether it would be suitable for swimming. He figured it was close enough to actual swim shorts that he could giove it a try. "You didn't bring two pairs of board shorts did you?"
The hot sand almost burnt the soles of his feet when he slipped his chucks off and stepped onto the sand to go looking for a good spot...maybe not too close to that team of cheerleaders who were giving Jack the eye.

"What? I don't know, man. Check the trunk.." He answered, barely even listening to the question. Why pay attention to his brother when there were gorgeous girls looking in their direction, giggling and clearly interested. He shot a smirk their way, giving a small nod. Oh man, he had been out of this game for far too long and right now was all about fun, wasn't it? He damn well deserved some.. Even if it was just some innocent flirting.
"Ey, why are you moving away from them, bro? They ain't gonna bite.. Although.. I actually wouldn't mind if they did." He grinned, throwing another look over his shoulder. But than his expression slightly changed when Brian's question was finally being processed by his brain. Five minutes later, sure, but hey, he could still blame that on the slightly less fun events three months ago, could he not? Either way, board shorts meant bare legs, and bare legs meant showing off his latest and, might he add, nifty new accessory around his ankle. Even if it made for a 'good story', did he really wanna do that? He wasn't even sure the damned thing was waterproof enough.
"Can you even swim with that knee?"

Brian dropped down in the sand not too far away from the group of girls who Jack was already flirting with and let his gaze wander over the waves. Hadn't his brother just been engaged? Then again-who was he to judge Jack after his run in with Taryn.
"We'll soon find out whether I can swim."
Quickly he pulled off his worn out navy shirt and dropped it in the sand next to him reveiling the few extra pounds he was suddenly sporting on his ribs due to a lack of exercise. Brian still wasn't fat but uncomfortably out of shape. Therefore he wanted to sit as far away from potential flirts as he could. He then stripped of his cargos. Thank goodness his underwear looked a lot like a bathing suit. Even if it didn't the stares would surely be attracted by the fat scar running from just above his knee to the bottom of it. Brian stared at it for a brief moment and then shrugged. "Who cares, nobody knows us here, right? Let loose, bro. Show em your accessory."

"Hey, I care. There could be potential people here who I do would like to get to know, bro." He grinned, not feeling the need to make clear which people he was referring to. The expression however soon died down as he pulled the leg of his jeans slightly up, revealing the small black device around his ankle. The red of his skin showed where he had scratched excessively, he had even tried to somehow 'lock pick' the damn thing off, but to no surprise, it hadn't done him any good.
"Stupid thing makes me feel like a dog on a leash." He muttered. He let out an agitated breath before he finally decided to screw it. This was a sunny LA day, a beautiful beach.. even though his car was messed up, he didn't feel like being a sour puss bitch much longer. He pulled his oil and engine grease stained shirt off, kicked off his shoes next, yet he hesitated at the belt of his pants. What was he wearing again? Black boxers? He shrugged, finally unbuckling his belt and pulling his pants off. He had nothing underneath to be ashamed of anyway.
"Dude, as much as I uh.. 'love' ya, I'm not gonna sit here on the beach with you, looking like we're two fruits." He smirked, shooting his brother a wink before he turned and headed toward the group of girls.

He hadn't even thought about Jack's tracking device. That would be embarassing to have on your ankle. At first Brian though Jack would be heading to the water to cool off but instead he was aiming for the group of girls. "You simply like trouble, don't you?" He called after him. He watched him for a moment and then decided to at least cool off before he was following him over there so he headed down to the waves and let them circle around his ankles wondering whether he should actually go for a swim. Instead Brian waded into the water, formed a cup with both hands and srpinkled water on his hair and face. The cool liquid felt awesome running over his shoulders and down his chest and back. When he looked towards the beach he could see Jack talking to some girls.

Against the sun the blond curly headed woman couldn't really see the man, who had come over towards them. She was currently spreading sunscreen on her teint, toned body. "Hey there, you're in my sun." She said with a knockout smile. "Could you step aside, please?" When Jack moved a little she could see him better and suddenly was a little friendlier and her smile more natural. "Need some sunscreen, too, or what brings you over here?"

Jack simply raised his hand, giving his brother the finger over his shoulder as he sauntered off. Was he looking for trouble? If trouble meant attempting to forget the past months, letting go, 'loose' as Brian had said, than yes he was was damn well looking for trouble, needed it even. He had almost fucking died, the scars on his forehead and neck being the unmistakable proof of that.
"Well, pardon me." He chuckled, taking a small step aside when the blonde, wavy haired girl asked him to. His eyes wandered over her perfectly curved body, following the moves of her hand over her skin as he smirked at her question. Maybe Brian had a point.. He shot a quick glance over his shoulder, making sure his brother wasn't uh... drowning, before he turned toward the girl once more.
"You. You looked like you could use a hand applying sunscreen on your back, and I promise you I got capable hands." He answered, smiling amused while he ignored the few giggles from her group of friends. The line had been cheesy as hell, he knew. Didn't take a genius to know anyone of the girls could have applied it for her..

"Do you now...wow what a promise." She mocked Jack but kept her tone light and amused. For a moment she studied the guy in front of her. He was tall, handsome guy, a little rough around the edge, very different from the college boys who were usually approaching her. There was also something slightly dangerous about him, which wasn't unattractive. "I guess I could use a hand." Holding out the sunscreen she reached for her long hair and pulled it over her shoulder to the front. "My back..."
