The screen in front of his eyes seemed to start flickering because Brian had stared at the picture of the thief of the totalled Honda NSX so long and hard. The prints had come up back half an hour ago and the system had no troubles finding the matching person who had already accumultated a list of smaller fellonies: Jack O'Conner. Brian was torn between sighing, tearing his own hair out and swearing that he would kick his brothers ass so hard he wouldn't be able to sit for years...first he had to find him though. Quickly he turned the screen off and grabbed his jacket. It was late and he was tired. Not too tired to check out the illegal street race tonight though. If his brother was boosting fast cars he was more than likely also on the street at night. An hour later he arrived in a quiet part of Miami, somewhere between warehouses and the docks. His Skyline had just gotten a new paint job and looked damn hot with the three different shades of blue.

Jack leaned against the front of the black JDM-styled Evo, raising his hand to shield the lighter's flame against the small breeze while he lit the cigarette hanging from his lips. His scrape with the local police not long ago had left him far too annoyed to be cutting lose tonight, not to mention the scene was slow. No, he was just here to watch for a change, maybe make a few bucks by betting on the winners. He smirked at two scantly dressed girls walking by, checking them out before the sound of a new engine caught his attention. He pried his eyes away from the tight asses and turned them on to the newly arriving car, a blue Nissan Skyline. "Flashy.." He snorted before he moved away from his car. A race was starting soon, one with a Saleen S7 in the line up, and he'd be damned stupid if he wouldn't be watching it. "2 large on the red one." He mumbled as he placed the wad of cash in tonight's bet-taker's hand. He took a spot among the crowd on the sidelines to watch as he pulled the cancer stick from his lips. He didn't care much for the end result of the race, although he did know he'd be a few grand richer by the end of it, it was only that one car he was interested in.

He walked past line ups of cars who were just there be shown off. Most of them were nice but nothing special because he had seen them before. Plus he knew it took a good driver to actually make them winners and as long as these guys just opened the hood but kept the keys in their pockets they weren't worth paying attention to. Brian was more interested in the guys who actually put their money where their mouthes were. That's where he was heading now. The start line. The cars were ready to take off and Brian caught them just when they left. He had his winner picked out already and wondered who the guys with the cash had put their money on. Briefly he scanned the crowd and spotted HIM. His heart skipped a beat and he froze.

Less than ten seconds was all it took for him to be proven right. The other three cars hadn't even stood a chance, and he smirked as the red S7 roared over the spray-painted finish line a winner after having taken off with an impressive start. Time to collect some money.. He flicked his cigarette away as he turned to make his way out of the cheering crowd. His eyes wandered over the many people, until he had to do a double take on one person in particular. He knew that goddamned face..
His steps were wary as he approached his brother. He had aged a few years and had even cut off those laughable curls, but no.. it was most definitely Brian. "Guess they aren't kidding when they say it's a small world, huh, bro?" Was all he said when he stopped in front of his brother. No 'hi', no 'how have you been.', he didn't find it necessary to bother with those, not after Brian had left Barstow whatever years ago to become some hot shot cop. Fucking sell-out.
"You still a pig?" He scoffed as he watched Brian. "Of course you are. Badge or no badge." He growled, and shook his head as he shouldered passed his brother. He had not been looking for some twisted, and might he add, damned coincidental family reunion when he came here tonight. The world really was far too fucking small nowadays.

Brian didn't really expect a big, warm hug by his brother. After all they hadn't parted ways on a good note. Jack had always found a way to bend the rules while Brian was following into their fathers footsteps and became a cop. That was years ago though and as far as Brian had been informed by his parents Jack was 'okay'. So the icy welcome had been quite unexpected. Suddenly Brian didn't care about the cars and drivers any more. He turned around and followed Jack. "A friendly handshake would have done." He remarked sarcastically while he caught up with him. When Jack didn't pay any attention to him he grabbed him by the arm and held him back. "Hang on a second. You can be glad the pigs not slapping cuffs on you right here and now, you thief!"

Jack snorted, raising a middle finger above his shoulder at his brother behind him as he continued his way through the crowd. It was as close to a friendly handshake Brian could get from him now. No matter how many years ago it had been, he still resented his brother's choice, and to hell with it if he wouldn't show it in his usual charming way.
As his arm was grabbed, he pulled it free just as fast before he turned around to face Brian. "Thief? Come on now, Brian. After all these years, I thought we were passed this. I gave you that G.I Joe doll back, didn't I? Sure, it's still missing it's head, but.." He shrugged as he smiled tauntingly at his brother. They both knew that was not what Brian was talking about, but the question was.. what exactly did his brother know, if he knew. Then again, this was a little too much of a coincidence to be about anything but the wrecked NSX, and only now did it occur to him he had most likely left fingerprints behind. Damn it..
"..you shouldn't have been playing with dolls in the first place, bro. They're for girls, remember?" Yeah, he was still keeping the 'I don't know what the fuck you're talking about' facade up, and why wouldn't he? Lying was what he had become accustomed to doing over the years, didn't matter to who.

Jack's attitude was wrenching Brian's gutts. He was aware that Jack was never a fan of Brian's choice of career but he was his brother after all. For all those years Brian wasn't aware of how much resentment Jack was harboring. Nonetheless it made him angry and with each word about that stupid GI Joe doll he had a harder time controlling it. "Will you just cut the crap and tone down the attitude a notch, bro?" He squinted his eyes at his younger brother as if he was trying to figure him out. "What the hell happened to you? When did you move on to big jobs, Jack?"

Jack drew his tongue over his lower lip as he watched Brian. He could either keep up the bullshit and still pretend he didn't know, or he could cut the crap and tone down the attitude a notch, as requested. Either way, his brother knew something, and too much for his likings at that.
He let out a breath before the scoff left his mouth. "What happened to me? I'm broke, that's what happened to me. And this.." He motioned towards the cars around them before he turned his attention back on Brian."This is all that I'm good at. It doesn't take a genius to connect the dots, bro." He shrugged as he slipped his hands in his pockets. "It's just one job, then me and my girl can hit the high road to something better." It sounded easy enough, even as he said it, but he knew it wasn't. Some of the cars were a bitch to even find, let alone get his hands on without attracting too much attention.
"But hey, if you're here to slap cuffs around your own brother's wrists, officer O'Conner, then go ahead and be my guest. Might as well make us both unwelcome here." Every hint of amusement was gone from his face and voice as he raised his eyebrows in question. Brian wanted to play cop, he could play bad guy. But really, there were worse things in the world he could do than jacking a few cars from rich snobs, weren't there? Wasn't like he had killed someone..

Brian frowned. Being broke was no reason to brake the law. "Then get a job." He replied dryly. He honestly didn't know what to tell his brother. Truth was he wanted to slap him upside the head and tell him to get a fucking grip on his life. He knitted his brow. "Damn, Jack. Fuck. I know you don't like what I'm doing but what you're doing is fucked up." He looked around him. Knowing what he did and not arresting his brother was against everything he beleived in but Jack was family. He'd seen the little sucker grow up, he had shared his toys food, parents, experiences...everything during their younger years until their ways parted.
"I'm not going to arrest you. Not now. You left prints in the car and your name popped up. So far I'm the only one who knows but not for long. Of course the name will ring a bell with my boss. He'll put me and a couple of others on you." He took a deep breath and made sure nobody was listening in.
Reaching for Jacks shoulder and looking him in the green eyes Brian stated. "Drop what you're doing now. You've already done enough to spend a while in jail. Next time I'll have to arrest you and it won't be pretty, bro."

Jack snorted as he raised his eyebrows in disbelieve. His brother had to be fucking shitting him, right? "A job? Man, I have a job. But how much do you think being a mechanic with a record and without any diplomas pays, huh? And I swear, if I get one more family car brought in with a ticking engine because daddy dearest doesn't know when to change the oil, I'm going to strangle someone." And this he said in all honesty. It was ridiculous how many cars, station wagons, were brought in to the shitty garage with simple problems, and how many people he had to lie to about the severity of said problems so his boss could make an extra buck. Yeah, irony had it.. Even his honest job was far from honest.
He shook his head as he pulled away from his brother. "No. I'm not dropping shit, Brian. They pay ten grand a car, a bargain for what they are usually worth, but it's easily earned money. And even if I wanted to quit, you think they'll just let me walk away? Once you take the job, you're in it until the end or it's your own end, you know that." His eyes followed the Saleen S7 as he spoke. He should've had a date with a beautiful red soon, and he would have if his brother the cop hadn't showed up tonight.
"Look, bro.. If you're not arresting me, just wipe the prints away, forget we had this conversation and we can both be on our merry ways again, ok?" Without waiting for an answer, he turned to go back to his own car (Though of course not without collecting his winnings first.). He would take his chances on getting arrested, be it by his brother or by some other cop, if it would even ever come to that. The pig that had chased him in the NSX had simply been lucky enough he had an off day, a very off day.

Jack was wrong in so many ways. 10 grand were not worth it. Brian could make that much money in a couple good nights racing. Surely that was illegal as well but ..., yeah but what...his passion? "You'll go down and end up with a bullet in your head. I'm not wiping anything. Your choice what you do, bro." Brian shouted after him but didn't want to raise any more attention. If he ever wanted to go undercover in the racing scene again he needed to keep a low profile.
From a distance he watched Jack collect the money and a girl with red hair approached him. Why the guy didn't make a career of racing was another question. He'd certainly make some cash with the crazy ass driving he put on display the other day.

Allison had been watching the scene with a slightly amused grin on her face as she danced with one of her friends. She recognized Jack from some of this previous races but not the other man. Slowly she pushed away from her friend and smiled back at him. "I'll be a minute, don't wait up." Slowly she made her way past the cars trying carefully to not spill the drink in her hand over her plaid cahined pants and torn up black tank top. It wasn't hard to catch up to them since Jack had seemingly left the other man behind.
"Hey, you know the strip is this way?" She nudged him slightly with her hand and offered the soda up. "Don't mind him, he isn't very social unless it's somone with a skirt. What you racing?" She eyed the man up and down from under her trucker hat, already she saw where he hid his wallet, the not so obvious or easy to sell watch and he wasn't wearing any jewelery so he wasn't much of a target. Maybe he could bet against her and she could get some quick cash that way.

A little distracted Brian briefly eyed the girl in her punk outfit. He'd never seen her before nor was she his type. So he looked back over to Jack to keep an eye on him before he could pull a dissapearing act. "I'm not. Just here to watch and catch up with my brother...you know him?" Maybe she was the girlfriend Jack had been talking about.

"I wouldn't say I know him, know him. We've bumped heads a few times about cars." Allison responded with a smile, her hand playing with the chains on her baggy pants. "So if you're not here to race, how about a little bet on the eclipse over there? The green one vs the Spyder?" She knew both racers and already who would win, she got a bit closer to Brian and smiled. "Just the two of us, say...a hundred?" She looked up at Brian her orange eyes glinting under the street light.

Brian already wanted to brush past her and step over to Jack when she offered an easy 100 bucks. Who was betting for a hundred? She had to be insecure. Quickly he cast a glance at the cars and then said. "Sorry, maybe next time. I gotta go see Jack...but the coupe will win. It's a GS-T. The other one's only a GS. Try to fool somebody else."

"Fuck," she muttered to herself as Brian rushed past her, quickly her fingers slid around his wallet and she let him rush past her. Easy peasy, she thought to herself and began to blend back into the crowd. She picked throughout the wallet for any cash and froze when she saw the badge. Her heart stopped cold, "I'm screwed." She whispered and looked around trying to see where the cop had run off too.

When Brian caught up to Jack he shoved his hands in his pockets. "C'mon." He didn't get any further when he noticed that his pocket felt awefully empty. "Shit." He patted his pants front and back in search of his wallett. Gone. His head darted around to see whether anybody was looking suspicious but all the people were only paying attention to the race. Suddenly he remembered the redhead. She must have taken it when she was talking to him. Brian turned on his heels and pushed his way back through the crowd when he spotted her halfway across the crowded street. He refrained from screaming. "Hey." but ran towards her.

Jack couldn't help but smirk as he watched Brian walk away just as fast as he had approached him. He had seen how his brother had patted his pockets, obviously searching for something that was now missing. If he wasn't mistaking, Brian had been talking to that little red head. He knew she had sticky fingers, considering he had learned that the hard way once.
"Did you loose something, bro!" He called after his brother, making no attempt to help Brian out as he shoved his winnings in his back pocket. He leaned back against his Evo as he folded his arms in front of his chest, still holding the amused smirk on his face, If Brian was stupid enough to get himself pickpocketed, then why shouldn't he be allowed to get a laugh out of it?

Allison ducked and dodged out of site acting as if nothing was out of the ordinary. She made a full circle back towards Jack and popped a seat on the hood acting as innocent as ever. "Hey, I didn't know you had a brother." She said before popping a price of bubble gum in her mouth. "Oh I think he dropped this." She held up Brian's wallet and laughed, waiting for him to spot her again. "He's kinda cute, I mean in that 'I'm going to hand cuff you and throw you in the back of my whip' kinda way."

Looking back and forth Brian wrinkled his forehead. he couldn't see the chick anywhere. But one thing was for sure: He needed his wallett back. His head darted around when his eyes fell on Jack and the redhead sitting right next to him on the hood of a car grinning like the ceshire cat. His eyes narrowed.
