Determined to talk to Brian in person, Cole called around the next morning and found out that he was being treated at the downtown hospital. Seeing that Mira was still sleeping, he quickly dressed and drove 45 minutes to the hospital. Once arriving, he checked in with the lady at front desk. "Hi, I'm looking for Officer Brian O'Conner. I was told this was where he was being treated." The desk lady shuffled through her folders and eventually found a match. "Ah yes, he's in room 354. 3 levels up and to your right." The lady nodded. "I'll tell the security guard you're coming, I'm sure he'll let you in." Cole waved as he walked towards the elevator. "Thanks." You couldn't miss Brian's room, it was at the very end of the hallway with a tall, muscular cop standing guard. Cole calmly walked up to him. "May I see Brian? He's a friend of mine." The guard studied him. "Yes, I was notified of your coming. Try to make it quick." The guard opened the door. Cole nodded to him. Brian was sitting up in his bed, watching tv. Cole immedietly noticed a huge bandage around his arm. He was a little nervous, but he knew he had to talk about what happened, for both his and Mira's sake. "Hey Brian."

The day had been just as aweful as the one before or the one when he was admitted. Aside from being in some serious pain Brian was emotionally as down as he could possibly get and anybody, even people, who didn't know his true nature could tell that something was seriously off. The only thing keeping him from snapping was the distraction of meaningless cartoons.
Dark circles framed his eyes when his gaze shifted from the TV to whoever was entering his room or should he say cell. This person wasn't dressed in the blue hospital uniform or ready to torture him with more test but wore jeans and a smile.
If he hadn't been in such an aweful mood he would have smiled back at Cole. Now he only nodded with little interest. "What are you doing here?"

Cole was almost surprised by the cold greeting. "I'm here to find out what the hell's going on here." He crossed his arms. "Mira told me practically everything, the reason you're in the hospital, the reason she can't be with you or trust you anymore, everything." Cole leaned against the wall, this was already harder than he thought it would be. "She's pregnant Brian, of all times she needs you, you're not there." Maybe he took it a little too far, but it was the cold truth. "I need to know what happened to you, I refuse to believe you're this kind of person."

As soon as Cole started talking Brian averted his gaze. He didn't trust his ears when he heard that Mira had told him out of all the people everything. The first stab cam when he said that Mira couldn't trust him anymore. Why on earth couldn't she trust him anymore? The second low blow was to hear that she was pregnant and the third was to hear it from Cole. His mind was racing and his jaw working as he gritted his teeth. If his hands weren't cuffed to the bedframe he would have smashed one of his balled fists right into Coles face. Brian could feel his heart pumping harder and heard the beeping of the monitor become faster. Slowly he looked back at Cole and glared at him before he hissed. "Get out!"

Fully expecting Brian's reaction, he stepped over to Brian's bedside. "There's no point in getting pissed, I'm here for your benefit. She still loves you, man. More than anything in the world. She'd like nothing more than for you to stop isolating yourself and talk to her." He stepped back over to the wall and put his hands in his pockets. "I don't know everything that happened, I wasn't there. But you do, and only you can make this right."

Of course Cole didn't listen but kept talking making Brian so angry that his eyes were watering up. "Just stop talking about her, okay?" It didn't make sense that Cole , who none of them knew very well was here talking about his relationship with Mira. There was one bit of information he was ready to give up."See , that's the problem, Cole. I don't know everything either and the stuff I remember makes absolutely no sense. All I know is that Walter lured me into a trap....and that Mira shot me." His voice got lower and lower. For a while he just sat there controlling his own breath, then he forcefully raised his left arm as if he could tear the handcuffs off. "Fuck." Again his anger flared up. "What are you doing here, kid? What the hell do you want?"

Brian's anger was making Cole even more upset with him. He threw his hands out of his pockets and on to the table beside Brian's bed. "Would you stop and think for two fucking seconds? It doesn't matter why Mira wanted me to talk to you, probably cause she's just that fucking desperate." She obviously picked the wrong person, and Cole knew that, he was having a hard time controlling his rage. He wondered who the hell this Walter guy was, and if he had anything to do with it. He sat on the floor for a second, regaining his composure. Finally he stood back up again and looked at Brian, who had a death glare in his eyes. "I want you back, you were the only person I've looked up to since my dads death. I came here to try to rectify everything, be the hero of the day. I see you want to kill me, so that obviously hasn't worked. But the important thing is, is that you have a family now. Don't throw it away." With that he turned around and headed towards the door.

Now Brian had managed to get Cole mad, who just wanted to help and was the only person who even came to visit him. No Mira, no colleagues, not even Mia but this young guy. Struggling with himself he finally grunted. "Sorry." That was all he managed to get out before Cole reached the door though. He actually wanted to know so badly why Mira didn't come, why she had done what she had done and whether she was okay. His throat was getting so chocked up at the thought of her actually being pregnant and Brian destroying her life, he had to gasp for air before he winced. "How is she?"

As he was opening the door, he heard Brian's words, finally in a tone he could manage. He shut the door and went back over to his favorite leaning wall. "Physically, she's great. Last time I saw her anyway."

Brian was relieved to see that Cole wasn't leaving. It felt good to have company. Calming down slowly the knot in his throat became less again. Out of half closed eyes he watched Cole lean against the opposite wall.
After a long moment of wondering how to approach the subject he shifted uneasily in his bed trying to sit up so he could see Cole better. The movement made the pain in his shoulder flare up, which reminded him why Mira and him weren't talking in the first place, so Brian winced and gave in.
"Is it true?" He finally made eye contact. "About her being pregnant?"

Cole nodded. "You're a father, congrats." He studied the room closely for the first time, he always hated hospitals. Just a good way to catch a bad sickness, in his mind. His eyes went back to Brian. "When are you getting out of here?"

Brian couldn't even comprehend what Cole was saying. Any other time he might have either done a happy dance or freaked out but now he was frozen. Too much stuff was going through his head. "Huh? I'm not...getting out. If everything stays okay the hospital will release me and then I'll go to jail. You know what they do with cops in jail...I'm not getting out, Cole." He could barely believe his own words. Many times had he been close to doing time for letting a suspect go or street racing but never had he imagine this: "I'm being charged with drug trafficking, theft and murder. I'm going nowhere." He could literally feel his own gutt drop.

Cole didn't know everything Brian had done, but it didn't sound pretty. "Is the evidence strong against you?" He shrugged. "A good lawyer can get you out of just about anything." He thought to himself for a moment, it continually amazed him much things can change in just 24 hours.

"Why did she shot me?" Brian suddenly asked. "She told you everything, why did she do it? Did she want to kill me?" Brian had been trying to replay the scene over and over in his head but most of his memory was confused or simply gone.

"She did it to stop you from doing something you'd regret." He answered directly. "It was the hardest thing she'd ever done. She was in tears the whole time telling me about it." Cole recalled, he paced around the room. "If she wanted it to be fatal, it would've been." He looked Brian directly in the eyes. "Instead of me giving you her words, how about you see her, it'd make her a much happier person."

For a moment Brian was struggling with that damn lump in his throat again. If only he could see her, talk to her and tell her how sorry he was. But would it really make a difference? On the other hand he was furious that Mira had actually pulled the trigger on him and not aimed for his vest if all she wanted to do was stop him. The urge to see her was bigger though. "I wish I could."
Without warning the bulky guard opened the door to the room. "Time's up. I'll have to ask you to leave now."

The guard seemed to be in a big rush, he was practically hoarding Cole out of the room. "Take care, Brian. We'll be back." He managed before he got to the door. He drove back to Mira's place, trying to think of what he was going to say to her. At least he sort of made a connection with Brian at the end, but he still didn't seem himself. It was like he held a pool of resentment, which many people would in his situation. He was almost afraid to bring Mira over, for fear he may be in a bad mood. But if it was what Mira wanted, he would do it. He finally arrived and parked his car next to Mira's charger. "Crap, she's home." He said to himself

Mira walked out when she noticed Cole pull into the drive way. She had just gotten up and looked like hell. She hadn't slept much that night. She missed Brian. When she was laying awake she thought about going to see him but figured he hated her now.
Max ran around the yard like an idiot and ran right into Cole's legs when he got out of his car.

Cole opened the door and was greeted with his favorite breed. "Hey Max." He massaged the dog's ears and then stepped out of the car. He saw Mira at the door, which made him even more nervous. Now he'd have to address her right away. He walked into the living room, nodding at Mira by the door, and sat on the couch, scratching his forehead. Finally, he looked at Mira. "I don't even know where to start."

Mira sat next to Cole, "How is he? Do you know if he is gonna get out? Did you get to see him? Did he talk to you? Is he mad at me? What hospital is he in? Does he want to see me?" Her mind was going a mile a minute and she was close to tears. She had so many questions for him.
