The lack of response made Cole's heart rate go up just a little, especially since he could hear footsteps. He was pretty relieved when it was Dom who showed up at the top of the stairwell.
"Barely." He responded with a sense of urgency in his voice. "Gunshot in his side, he's lost a lot of blood." He handed the younger O'Conner off to the big man and went back to rubbing his tortured shoulder and back.
He followed Dom up the stairs and stood off to the side, he was relieved that it appeared the three of them were okay. But regardless, Mia's medical skills were about to be tested.

She turned when Brian took her hand thanking her for all she did not only for him but for his family also. A faint smile appeared on her thin lips and gave it a light squeeze when she heard the door open and identified Cole´s voice. Hurrying to the cabinet under the sink, she took a basket and placed everything in it not even knowing if all those things she put into that basket where going to help Jack survive.
The door opened just to see Dom carrying almost a lifeless Jack. “Take him into one of those rooms,” starting to shout instructions at Dom taking a quick look at the items in the basket: gauze, ointments, band-aids and to her surprise there was a catheter in there too and some fluids. It was either her lucky day or Cole went all paranoid knowing what could happen to him now that he was working with one of the best mob in all California and wanted to just prevent that from happening. Either way she was glad because she was going to need those things.
“Keep the pressure,” She told Dom and took a quick look at the hole where the bullet entered: the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. This was starting to get real bad. “Shit,” she muttered, the bullet could´ve hit the liver, or the bullet entered and once inside little bits and pieces hit another organ? She really hope it was case one and not the second one, she had a higher chance to try and extract the bullet that is if it wasn´t “hidden” deeper in his body to the point of damaging the liver.
“Don´t do this Jack,” Suddenly, he started to go into shock, something she could control if she was quick. She started with CPR while Dom held the pressure, Jack seemed responsive and she relaxed a little removing her belt and making a tourniquet placing the catheter into one of his arms starting the fluids. There was just one last thing she had to remove: the bullet.
OOC: I read this post more than four times making sure it all makes sense and if something doesn´please let me know. The catheter thing… Well, I am obsessed with catheters (It´s a veterinary technician thing. Ha!)

A voice suddenly caught his attention. "What was that?" Pushing himself off the lid of the toilet he opened the door and listened carefully. "I think we have a visitor." Brian whispered and showed Mia to be quiet before tiptoeing towards the front of the luxury mansion but the woman already had her hands full of supplies probably assuming that neither Cole nor Jack would be in good shape when they came in.
The sight of his brothers limp body in Doms arms made Brian's heart sink from one second to the next. He didn't know whether he was still alive or had already bled to death. For a moment he froze and was completely unable to do anything because he feared that Jack was dead. He barely heard Cole say that his brother was still alive when Mia ordered her brother to drop him on one of the beds.
With his chest as tight as it could be Brian finally pushed his way into the room just to catch a glimpse of Mia doing CPR to Jack. In his whole life had he never been as afraid for another person. No matter how many stupid things Jack had done he did not deserve to die right here and now. "No." was all he could get out.
The seconds that passed until Mia stopped her CPR seemed eternal and all he could do was stand by while Dom put pressure on the wound. "Don't let him die, Mia!" Desperately he ran his hands through his hair. He watched her do the best she could but it was obvious that this was a life or death gamble and Mia wasn't a doctor and Cole's home no hospital. What good was Jack no being in prison if he was dead.
"This is crazy. Jack needs a doctor right now." Pacing back and forth his eyes never left his brothers pale blood smeared features. "I'm going to call an ambulance." His lips were quivering when he announced his desperate measures. Unfortunately even an ambulance would take 10 maybe 20 minutes to arrive, which might be way to late.
With shaking hands he kneeled down next to the bed and pleaded with Mia. "Mia, you gotta tell me, can you do this? or should I call a doctor?" He hoped with everything he had that she'd be able to help his brother with the little supplies that Cole had in his home. Why on earth he actually had supplies for an IV was questionable but completely unimportant right now. "Jails better than death, you know." Right then Brian was fully prepared to face jail time if he had if that meant the younger O'Conner would life. He felt his face become red and breathing became a difficult task. Many times during his time as cop had he seen people fight for their lives. Heck, he'd shot some of them in the line of duty himself. But it was never his family's life on the line.

Her own heart was racing like crazy, she seemed cool on the outside but she was even more scared than Brian was. Jack needed medical assistance, she could remove the bullet but if the whole piece didn´t came out she was going to have a problem. She just got lucky she acted fast, unfortunately Jack could go into shock again and she doubted he could be okay and made it this time.
Her gaze dropped to her hand applying newer pressure on Jack´s, she hated to be in this type of situations and feel all this pressure. She wanted nothing more than to keep going but she wasn´t a doctor. She inhaled and exhaled, Brian´s words playing over and over again.
“I hate to say this but he does need a hospital,” placing pressure on his hand, it was a miracle he still was breathing due to Sam´s mutilation game. “Cole, I need a phone…” lots of questions were about to be asked the moment Jack went straight into the emergency room but if was the only way to keep him alive.

For once this week, he actually felt smart for having all this medical junk in his house. He only loosely knew how to use some of it, but he figured something was better than nothing if Stephano ever decided his time had come.
He looked on nervously as Mia and Dom handled Jack the best they could. In his mind, Jack would have a hard enough time even with the support systems of a hospital. Forget about private home antics. Sometimes, it really sucked to be running from the law.
"Right." Cole produced a cell phone and handed it to Mia.

Brian, who was on the verge of loosing it, reached for the phone before she could and told her. "Take care of Jack. I'll make the call, so he knows who to hate if he survives."
With shaking fingers he dialled 911. The voice of an operator came on almost instantly but for a long moment Brian didn't say a word. If he really gave away their location they could be in deep shit, aside from the fact that Jack would most defiently go to jail for a long time. Did he really want that. With a look at his lifeless brother he cleared his throat and said. "We need an ambulance at 29 Old Sand Creek Road in Brentwood. My brother has a gunshot wound and is going into shock. Please send a doctor right away. Hurry." Purposely he didn't give any names or other information when the woman on the other end demanded to know more. "Just hurry the fuck up. He's dying." He screamed into the phone and hung up. Wiping a nervous hand over his face he looked down at Jack, then Mia. "Is he still breathing?" A moment later he was on the floor next to Jack with his hand on his brothers arm. His skin felt cold and clammy under his touch. Just as cold as the icy fingers of anxiety that took a good hold of Brian's heart, who burried his head in the fabric of his brothers shirt.

Just as she was about to take the pone from Cole´s hand, Brian took It before she could and made a call to 911. He was right, she had to make sure Jack was doing okay and not going into shock again. She heard the quick conversation Brian had with the operator not giving any names as his voice grew more worried and panicky. Mia kept focus on Jack, he was still breathing, but his skin was pale. “He´s still breathing,” her gaze never leaving Brian´s brother.
Fifteen minutes went by and there was no sign of the ambulance. She didn’t know how the hell she was going to explain what happened to Jack. From his missing fingers and the bullet, she sigh and ran her hands through her hair, she was nervous now as the sound of the ambulance could be heard getting closer and closer to the house.

Dom put all his attention towards the simple but critical task of pressurizing Jack's wound. He thought from the start that this was out of his sister's league, as good as she was. This would be out of anybody's league though.
To think, that after all this, he was still headed to a hospital. Shame.
The sound of sirens soon faintly made itself apparent. Dom picked up Jack steadily from the bed, making sure to hold the cloth on the bullet entrance, and turned towards the stairway. Might as well make this as quick as possible.

Without hesitation Brian got up and reached for Jacks legs to help Dom out. A moment of uneasy silence passed between all of them when the door bell was rung. Who exactly would be standing outside was still unclear. It could be the mob dressed up as paramedics...or not, it could be cops accompanying the ambulance or, if they were lucky just plain and simple paramedics. "Let's do this." Brian huffed while they were carrying Jack, who seemed twice as heavy as he should be, down the stairs. A few times Brian thought he'd seen him move. A few times his head dropped to the side and Brian felt a sting in his chest because he thought he'd just died.
When they opened the door and found nobody but real paramedics out there a huge load dropped off everybody's shoulders.
A shitload of questions was directed at them while Jack's vitals and the makeshift IV was being checked. "What excatly happened? When did it happen? Since when has he been unconscious? Blood type? What measures have you taken and last but not least...who shot him?" Brian's head was spinning with all the questions while he was still standing there in his underwear and nothing but a bandage on his own beat up leg. The whole time he was wondering whether he should be going with Jack and risk an arrest but when he looked at him one last time he simply couldn't send his brother off with strangers. Who knew whether he'd even live to get to the hospital. Sure he was tough little cookie but Brian simply couldn't let him walk down that road alone. He looked at the others one time and asked Cole. "Give me your shirt. I'm going with him." Briefly his eyes met Mia's to give her doubtful smile and then climb in the ambulance as well. "I'm his brother." The doors closed behind them and with that the chance to get away.

The sirens blare as the ambulance raced through the streets the paramedics inside fighting to save the man. His brother anxiously following their every move. on the other side of town was an emergency room nurse yasmin pulling back her long blonde hair applying a coat of deep red lipstick and adjusting her cleavage in her fitted uniform. The white dress displaying her curves to their fullest potential. She didn't want to be on this shift.
She'd rather work permanent nights for the rest of eternity than share another shift with Charles. He promised her he was leaving his wife. Promised they'd move away together. Such a fool, because now his wife was pregnant and they had to try and make it work for the babies sake. Well Charlie could shove it all up his ass. It was petty but yasmin had taken extra care over her appearance today just to toy with him. Hope we can still be friends... what rubbish.
So it was looking good but feeling bitter yasmin began her shift treating everything from a common cold which was a complete waste of her time, a nasty case of nappy rash that made her suspect child abuse and a fractured wrist, when the call went in that they were on route with a gunshot. As the senior nurse on duty yasmin began pulling together what they may need on arrival for the handover.
As the trolley rolled in a bag of iv fluids attached she exchanged quick but informative words with the paramedics before turning to the conscious blond.
Yasmin: Mr o.Connor....
He looked lost staring at his brother so she tried again.
Yasmin: Mr O'Connor I need to know what blood type your brother is.
If he didn't know they would just have to use O+ which can be used for any blood group thankfully but it would be better if they had his blood type

Dom was put at ease once the O'Conner was in the hands of equipped professionals, the fact that there were no cops was just a bonus. Predictably, the paramedics drilled them with questions. There really was no right answer in this circumstance, but some answer was better than no answer. "He was caught up in some mafia shootout." Dom figured that answer would make the most sense since law enforcement everywhere was in the middle of probably the biggest mob bust in the city's history.
In almost every other circumstance, Dom would've discouraged Brian from jumping in the ambulance, but this was his family, and he knew he'd do the same thing. "Stay sharp O'Conner."

Well, it was probably inevitable, and certainly the best for Jack (health wise anyway). Only now they were in a bit of a situation, Jack and Brian especially. Maybe it was time to flee to Japan for a few months when this was over.
Cole cocked his eye at Brian for the unusual request, but then slipped it off and handed it to him. "Good luck, Brian." He said solemnly. He really wasn't sure he was going to see either of them again as free men, but it was his brave choice. That you had to respect about him.

The whole drive to the hospital, which was only ten minutes but most likely the longest ten minutes of his life, Brian had his eyes glued on Jack, while the paramedics watched his vital signs carefully. For once in his life he felt what his brother really meant to him, no matter how badly he had screwed up. he was and would always be his brother.
Brian's lip was bloody from his own teeth by the time they arrived at the hospital where they rushed Jack into the emergency room.
Somebody kept shooting questions at him. When he turned his eyes away from Jack for a moment he saw a voluptious nurse. under any other circumstances he would have taken a longer look but now all he could think was 'Did I really give them my name?'
A little irritated he answered. "AB negative". How on earth he knew this bit of information he wasn't sure. He just did.
Before his brother was taken away Brian looked down the hallway making sure the place wasn't filled with cops yet. Then he leaned his back against the wall, trying to regain a little bit of his composure.

The moment the paramedics got out of the ambulance the questions started, she froze and couldn’t talk even if she tried to. Her gaze went to Jack; one of the paramedics was checking his vitals as they all stood there waiting for someone to say something. All this running around, it all seem for nothing. Now that Brian´s brother was on his way to the hospital, more questions were going to be thrown at them, the police would be involved…
She look up at Brian when he let the paramedics know he was going with his brother to the hospital, she wanted him to stay but he too needed the medical assistance while he was waiting for Jack. “Once you get there give us a call, and keep us updated on Jack´s condition,” were her last words before the doors of the ambulance closed, the siren wailing and the red bright lights flashing in the darkness were all now far away from the group that stayed outside for a few more minutes.
It was now up to the medical staff to save Jack´s life. The next 24 hours were the most critical and it didn´t help at all Jack went into shock, she knew he´ll make it through, but when it came to his missing fingers that was another topic. “I did the best I could,” she sighed and turned to Cole. “Do you have some sweatpants and a shirt I can borrow?” she was ready to take a shower and try to get some sleep.

Cole let out a sigh with a little head shake and went back in the house. There was simply nothing good about any of this. Now he even had to wonder if they would be safe here for the rest of the night, god forbid those paramedics recognized their faces.
"Yeah, don't think any of it will fit you too well though." He made a stop in his closet as they got back to the main level and handed his workout pants and a white t-shirt to her. "There's a decent sized guest bedroom with a shower and all that you guys can stay in, but whatever you wanna do is fine. There's keys for three cars in the garage all to the right of the garage door. If you need to use them for any reason don't hesitate." He added. "There's beer and champagne in the fridge, if you need a drink like I know I do." He said as he pulled one of the champagne bottles and poured himself a healthy serving. He was becoming too dependent on this stuff, times like these didn't help.

“Thank you..,” she took the gray sweatpants and the white t-shirt in her hands, she wanted to say more “…for everything, and uh- sorry I snapped at you that day outside the “Luna Azure”. Getting out of the house wasn´t an option, plus she didn’t feel like driving not when Brian was stuck in the hospital with Jack, it had been almost 25 minutes since the ambulance left and still she hadn´t heard from him.
She set aside the clothes and took a quick look at the kitchen. “Dinner will be ready in a few minutes,” she announced to the boys, knowing she´d have a hard time sleeping, maybe in those minutes some news...good news would come. She walked to the stove and started to cook, a way for her to just forget everything that had happen but it was impossible; they could all go to jail… she sighed and focused on what she was doing.

All Brian could hear before the doors close is ‘critical condition’. He didn’t even try to ask about Jack’s chances because he knew how bad they were. For a while he still stood there and stared at the closed door behind which he could see the staff rushing around.
Then his adrenalin level dropped so low that he had to sit down and fight the fatigue that was taking over fast. Brian knew he was still supposed to call Mia but he also wanted to stay close to Jack in case something happened or the cops showed up.
Brian didn’t even notice how his eyes closed and he nodded off after days of little to no sleep. The past week had been a wild ride of explosions, car chases, kidnapping, Jack loosing his fingers by one of Stephanos men and finally a deal gone completely wrong. The only thing good was that Mia had taken care of the babies. If only Jack would be alright, too.

-back at the house-
Cole was a little surprised at the sudden apology, especially for something that happened over a month ago. Maybe that was his reward for providing a safe haven...of sorts. "Eh, I was out of place, don't worry about it." He finally responded. "Guess I was just startled to see you of all people there that day."
He looked over to Dom who was sunken in the couch, eyes closed. He was about to mimic the act when Mia said something about dinner....Dinner? Now? Well I guess there weren't many better options, not like anyone was sleeping in this house until somebody called and said something. "Jeez, you must really like to cook." He raised his brows and went into the kitchen himself.

Yasmin was no where near as perfect as she had been at the start of her shift yet she wore her tiredness well. A slight dewy sheen to her face told of the hours under hot lights to stabilise the patient, he was still in a serious condition but short of some major catastrophe he was not yet going to be greeting the grim reaper at least not while she was there to prevent it. She'd been forced to work with Charles in order to save the dying man before her, doggedly handsome and if he were awake yasmin wanted to bet he'd be hitting on anything in a skirt. He put Charles to shame and she hadn't even once thought about how the spineless asshole was going crawling back to his wife. That said now the adrenaline was wearing off she wasn't so sure tiredness started to creep in. A deep pull of coffee helped settle that because she still had a job to do. Just as soon as she had the man who brought the patient in sign the usual waivers and enquired about insurances and the like. Once that was out of the way she was set the task of one to one for the serious patient until a bed was made available on icu. Slowly she made her way back toward the anxious blonde who came in with the patient. Head in his hands pulling on his hair she felt sorry for him. The patient was in a side room it wouldn't hurt anybody and only she was there to keep watch. Yasmin: I just have a few forms I need you to fill out but if you follow me you can sit with him. He's no longer critical but it's still serious.

Brian got torn out of his half sleep by what seemed to be just another dream. A hot blonde in a nurse outfit with huge boobs....since when did he dream these kind of things and since when were his dreams so realistic? Blinking once or twice Brian realized that he was no longer asleep and asked the very intelligent question. "Huh?" A second later he pushed himself up to a sitting position while he looked up and down the hallway for cops. At the end of the hallway two men in uniforms were just making their way into the emergency room. "Yeah, I'll come with you." Brian shot up still wearing nothing but his boxers and Coles sweatshirt, that was slightly too small. Under any other circumstances this would have been the most embarassing moment in his life but right now all he cared about was Jacks life and the cops approaching fast. "He's no longer critical?" Brian questioned the nurse and followed her to the door behind which his brother was. As quickly as he could Brian stepped inside and closed the door. How on earth would he manage to keep the cops from arresting Jack? or himself for that matter? Then he turned around just to catch a glimpse of Jacks features under all the tubes and wires that made sure he was okay. Even though the woman had just said he was no longer critical Brian's heart dropped and he gasped. "Is he going to be okay?" A loud knock on the door interrupted them and once the nurse pocked her head outside one of the officers said. "You have a patient, who's been shot. We need to ID him. Can we see him?" Brian's heart dropped the rest of the length of his body until it reached his toes. They were screwed.
