The silhouette of 'the safehouse' stood dark against the night sky when two dark figures were walking away from it. Nobody could have told that they weren't really part of the gang that resided there. In their dark clothes they sure looked like it. Tonight both men had become somewhat part of it as well. Both of them would probably remember the events of the night for the rest of their lives.
Brian didn't even dare to take a deep breath or stop for a moment before he got into the car. When he reved up the engine and drove away he didn't look back. He just wanted to get out of there. The whole night he'd been crossing his fingers that Jack and him would get out of this alive. With his nerves still on edge he sped down the road shooting brief glances at the younger one. Already his conscience started to kick in telling him how irresponsible he was that he let Jack get hurt. About 5 kms away from the safehouse Brian suddenly pulled over and slammed on the brakes until the Skyline came to a squeeking halt. His emotions were boiling over now that the whole playing cool and keeping a straight face was done. "Fuck!" He smashed his fist on the dashboard. And then a softer "Fuck!" followed.

Jack was startled by the sudden reaction of his brother. The whole ride he'd been staring out in front of him, replaying the events of earlier that night in his head. How they made it out alive in mostly one piece, he would never know, but he sure could use some counseling.
He glanced at Brian and mumbled. "Calm down man. It's done." Calming down was easier said than done. He was still on edge himself, but what else could he say? With a sigh, he rubbed a hand through his face. "So what's next? You gonna report this shit to the FBI or what?" With shit, he was mostly referring to the cold blooded execution they had the displeasure of watching up close.

Jack snapped him out of his thoughts. He looked at him for a long moment contemplating what would go into his report and then mumbled. "I have to."
With shaky fingers he fumbled out his phone and dialled his bosses number. "We're out. Angel took us to the gangs safehouse. There's a body at the cliff near Huntington bridge. Angel shot him. I'll take my brother to the hospital now and tomorrow morning I'll write my report." Brian was ready to hang up because he knew if he stayed on the phone it would become a lengthy discussion that he couldn't handle right now. On the other end he could hear his boss cursing and spitting about how he fucked up that night and the number of casualities. "Listen, you wanted an in in the the gang. You got it." He swallowed hard and looked at Jack. Before he hung up he asked about the guy he had shot though and to his great releif found out that his condition was stable.
Brian placed the phone on the dashboard and took a deep breath. Then he stared out the window at the dark row of houses and shook his head before he muttered underneath his breath. "You don't even know what we've gotten ourselves into here. I'm such an iditot to volunteer and drag you into this. I should have just borrowed the money and paid him back." His dark stare wandered to Jack. "From now on you can sleep with one eye open, bro!"
With that he started the engine again and drove to the hospital Mia worked at because he knew that she wouldn't put details down or ask stupid questions.

When the word hospital was mentioned, Jack groaned. If there was one thing he hated, it was that damn smell, the sterile rooms and anything else that came with it. Just thinking about it made his skin crawl. He wanted to object, but he soon realized that no matter what he'd say, Brian would drive to the hospital anyway.
He glared back at his brother and crossed his arms. "So this is all my fault now?" He knew it was his fault. He never should have taken Amira's offer or even brag to those racers. But he always had a hard time admitting that he was wrong and this time was no different. Then he snorted and added "You gonna kill me in my sleep? Mom would love that." He shook his head and shifted his gaze to the side window, ignoring Brian. He had to mentally prepare for that damn hospital visit. Right now, life sucked more than it did an hour or so ago when they were still 'hanging out' with Angel.

At the mention of their mother Brian took his foot of the gas. He loved and respected his mom and was grateful she didn't know half of the trouble he got into. He wanted it to stay that way and Jack probably did, too. "We're not going to tell mom or dad about tonight, okay?"
Brian pulled up at the hospital. He knew Mia was on duty tonight. After looking at Jack he just had to smile. "You're not afraid of doctors, are you?" A short, nervous laugh escaped him. "You look more uncomfortable now than when Angel was threatening you! C'mon, what are they going to do? Stick a couple of needles in you?" He just had to tease him. Then he got out and went around the car to open the other door. "C'mon."

"Very funny bro. Remind me to laugh later." For a few seconds, Jack glared at Brian before he finally got out of the car. Normally he didn't mind teasing, but when it came to doctors and needles, he could not appreciate it at all. In order to prevent future teasing though, he had to suck it up and take it like a man. There was nothing else he could do.
"This will just be a quick in and out to get my hand checked on. No fancy examinations." He muttered while he glanced at his brother. He knew how hospitals worked. They always wanted to stick a needle in you here and poke you there, but not with him. He'd much rather go back to the safehouse and provoke a couple of gangmembers before he would let that happen.
He took in a deep breath before they entered the hospital. The moment of truth.. Was it too late to turn back now?

Brian lead the way to the emergency room, where Mia was on duty. At least he thought so. The receptionist asked them what happened and then decided that it wasn't life threatening so they could wait just like a whole bunch of other people. In a small seating area next to a long corridor they found themselves 2 uncomfortable plastic chairs. Brian slumped down on one and leaned his head against the wall. It took a couple of minutes but for the first time ins hours he relaxed slightly and closed his eyes. Unfortunately the events of the night kept replaying in front of his inner eye. Everything had gotten out of hand so fast. It was just a mere struggle for survival. It was also strange that Angel hadn't even asked Brian how he knew how to handle a gun or anything else. Didn't he have any suspicions? He heard Jack breath hard next to him and opened his eyes slightly to look at him. His brother looked like he'd been run over by a truck. Emotionally and physically. It mirrored his own feeling. "Are you okay?"

The waiting in this place made Jack uneasy. It gave him too much time to be alone with his thoughts and he couldn't help but think of that execution. It could have just as easily been Brian or him or even both who caught a bullet from Angel. It was clear that guy didn't have a problem with pulling the trigger on someone, not even one of his own. On top of that, the adrenaline that had been rushing through his system the whole night had worn off. It made him more aware again of his probably broken hand and the stinging that came with it, making this wait even more uncomfortable.
It took him a while to realize Brian asked him a question and for a lack of better response he simply stated. "I'll live." Admitting to anything else was just not something he wanted to do right now. He just wanted this night to be done and over with. Then he glanced over at his brother. Just by the look in Brians eyes it was clear he didn't get out of this unaffected either. "What about you? You don't look too shabby yourself."

Brian looked back at him searching for the right words. He was more shaken up on the inside that outside. So he smiled slightly and replied. "I'll live." Uneasily he touched the sratches on the side of his face. They seemed okay. He just hoped they wouldn't have to sit and wait for long because he was exhausted and the prospect of giving lenghty explanations to his boss and coworkers didn't seem very inticing. He had to make up his mind what he would tell them. With a groan he got up and pulled the uncomfortable bullettproof vest off, that he was still wearing. The shirt underneath was bloody and dirty and reminded him of the man he had almost killed tonight. "These nights are never fun. Maybe I should just go back to doing regular duty and hand out speeding tickets."

"I don't know bro. That can get pretty messy too. You could get papercuts from handing out those tickets." Jack couldn't help but let out a short laugh when he pictured Brian in one of those police suits. It would be an amusing sight to see. Much more amusing than anything that happened tonight, but somehow he knew that was a sight he would never see. It wasn't exciting enough for his brother.
He sighed and slouched down more in the uncomfortable chair. He would have taken his bulletproof vest off himself as well, but he was too sore and too tired to do it. And besides, he figured he could always let a cute little nurse help him out. Might Oswell make the best out of it. Although he started to wonder if cute nurses even existed in this hospital. Most of them here seemed to be middle aged or something, definitely not worth a second look. So maybe he had to refrain from that and just stick with the fantasy for now.

The men had to wait along time. Name after name was being called and people went in and out nursing cuts, fraktures and other sores. While Brian watched them to keep himself from thinking about anything else he was grateful that tonight it wasn't him. He was just here to help. That's the least he could do. Without looking at Jack he said. "I'm sorry about ...I don't know...bringing you into the FBI operation. I should have just borrowed the money from somebody else." He stared at the opposite wall. "And don't worry about the money you lost while you were running out of the gangs safehouse."

"Lost what doing.. What?!" At the mentioning of the money, Jack forgot about everything else and quickly stood up while pointing a finger at his brother. "First of all I wasn't running! And second.." He paused while he searched his pocket for the money. He fumbled it out and started counting. It was all still there, thank god. Then he looked at Brian and smiled sheepishly when he realized what he meant. "Don't ever do that again. Almost gave me a heart attack." While he sat back down in his seat, he slapped his brother against the back of his head. "You're not gonna make me start paying rent out of it though, are you?"

"Yeah right, my couch costs 20 cents a night! Put that away!" He slapped him back. "Did you fall on your head or something?" He grinned- Usually Jack wasn't this slow especially when it came to money. Brian was going to return his. He had to but Jack didn't. The cop figured that 10 gs would keep him out of trouble for a while. "It's not like we're stealing it. It was given to us and would just end up in a plastic bag. This way you might stay out of trouble for 5 weeks or so."

Jack stared at Brian for a moment, contemplating. He knew his brother would probably be handing in his share next thing tomorrow along with his report. Before he put the money away, he cleared his throat and mumbled. "Alright. You might want to get a camera or call the news paper for this because.." He paused while he split the 10 grand and stuffed 5 in his brother's pocket. "This is the only time anything like this'll happen. Buy yourself a new couch or something. It's not worth 20 cents a night." He didn't know what to do with all that money anyway. He would probably blow it on the most useless things, so he might as well make up for the expenses Brian had thanks to him. One thing that came to mind being the trashed living room. Then he couldn't help but smirk. "I guess that shortens it to 2,5 weeks? Still sounds awfully long though."

Brian made a mental note to put the money away for Jack in case he needed it.
He sighed. "Goodness, how long is this taking? Can't you look a little more pained or fake a breakdown so we get in there?" He then got up and went to the receptionist and asked her whether Mia Toretto was on duty and whether she could tell her that Brian was here. It would probably give her a heart attack since it was late at night but speed up the process.
Brian came back to Jack and handed him a coffee from the machine. "I didn't know how you drink yours so I put double double in there." He took a sip of his own to stay awake and winced at the aweful taste. "You know I have to write a report. Can you tell me what exactly happened in the warehouse? Why did you come in anyway?"

Jack stared in to the coffee as if he could find a way to not have to explain things in there. He really didn't want to have this conversation. No matter what, he would come out as irresponsible he knew that much. Too bad for him though, the coffee was not helping on making any excuses to get out of this. With a sigh, he slowly started off. "You know how when you tell me not to do something.. I do it anyway?" He shook his head to himself while he looked away, avoiding Brian's gaze. That was not a good way to start. "I just found myself a way in and got my ass kicked. Do you really need the details? It was a stupid move. I know." He quickly said while glancing towards the hall hoping for it to be their turn soon. Anything would do to not have to answer his brothers questions and face his probably angry stare.

He could tell the whole situation was bad enough and Jack just wanted it to be over with. "Hey, I'm not trying to lecture you. I just need it for my report. So, yeah, I need some details. Sorry." He shuffled his feet underneath the plastic chair and spit a sip of the dark liquid back into the cup. It was the most terrible coffee he'd ever had which matched the terrible night pretty well.
Through the hospital speakers "Mr. O'Conner. Nr. 3" was called.
"That's you." Brian got up and lead Jack to a door with a 3. Inside the absolutely worst version of an ugly nurse was waiting. She was in her 50ies, had her grey hair in a bun, which perfectly matched her female mustache and the white sterile clothes. "So what's happened?" The woman asked with a hoarse voice while she pulled on some rubber gloves.
The sight of Jacks face almost made Brian crack up.

Jack was completely taken aback from the sight in front of him while he had to suppress a 'jesus christ' from escaping his lips. That had to be the ugliest woman he'd ever seen. Was it even a woman? This was definitely not part of any fantasy of nurses at all.
From the corner of his eye he could see Brian trying his best not to laugh. Why couldn't Jack be an only child.
He stared at the nurse for what seemed to be forever. The fact that she was putting gloves on was quite unsettling. It made him all the more closer to running out of the room and never turning back. Finally he managed to say something. "Uhm.. Nothing happened really. I'm fine." Then he glared at Brian. Didn't he mention something about his girlfriend who was supposed to be on duty tonight.

The woman stood with her hands on her broad hips and knitted her brow. "Really, 's that why you're here...cause nothin happened? That's strange...happens a whole lot when I'm on duty. People just walk in here for fun." She motioned for the examination table and said in a harsher tone. "C'mon, get on there, boy. Haven't got all night for ya!" She flashed him a smile with crooked teeth delighted by her own joke. She was aware of her looks and most peoples reaction. She'd gotten it for a long time and liked to play with it. That made her feel better. "Don't be so shy."
Brian watched the scene with amazement. That was almost worth paying for. He mumbled suppressing a laughter. "Yeah, don't be so shy."
The woman gave Brian a covetous glance, which was almost scarier than Angels actions.

Jack mouthed a 'you're so dead' towards his brother. Brian was enjoying this a little too much for his taste. He let his gaze shift between the woman and the examination table. He had to have done something seriously wrong in a previous life looking at all the shit he got tonight. It just didn't seem to end.
"Do I have a choice?" He muttered in a low voice. The woman shook her head, causing her under chin to jiggle with the motion. "Not if you want medical help. Now stop waistin' my time or get out." "Great.." He muttered while he took in the situation again. His hand was hurting like hell again so it did need the medical attention, sooner rather than later. If this was his only choice right now.. Well she was a qualified nurse, how bad could it be?
With a groan, he hauled his ass towards the table and sat down. But before he let the woman get closer he wanted to make one thing clear. "It's just my hand that's hurt. Nothing else. No sticking needles where they don't belong and no examinations." Then he glanced at his brother and smirked. He had noticed the looks the woman was giving Brian and well.. he just couldn't help himself. He just had to add one more thing. "You might wanna give him a once over though. I'm kinda worried about his health. He's my brother you know, I care about him."
