Brian backed off a little and leaned against the door shaking his head no. The woman inspected Jack's hand. Behind her a young, dark skinned man with dread locks and a beard walked into the room in blue doctors work clothes. He quickly went around the nurse and threw a glance at Brian at the door and then Jack and his hand. The doctor held out his hand so he could put his on top of the docs. "Now how did that happen?" Kind dark eyes watched Jack carefully. He seemed very relaxed for working in an ER. The nurse barked. "He didn't want to tell me. He was too busy flirting with me." She went to her computer and was ready to type.

"Yeah, I'd love to take you out sometime. You're like sex on legs!" Jack called over the doctors shoulder at the nurse before he looked at the guy. He was relieved to see that at least the doctor seemed normal. It gave him a chance to relax a little. He shrugged at the question. "Some guy gave me a little rough of a handshake I guess." He wasn't sure how much information of what really happened he could give away, so he thought he might as well keep things vague. It wouldn't change the condition of his hand anyway. "Is it broken or what?" He sure as hell wasn't looking forward to having to walk around with a cast or something. Then he glanced towards the door where Brian was still standing, far away from the nurse. Jack couldn't help but smile. Suits him right for laughing.

While Brian kept his safety distance he asked. "I was just wondering whether Mia Toretto is around." The doctor very lightly pushed against Jacks fingertips and watched for his reaction. "Now she's sex on legs if I can say that. I guess I can't." The doctor mumbled to himself. "Damn right you can't." Brian straightened up. The doctor looked at the nurse. "Send him up for x-rays and then back here."
He turned around to Brian and asked. "And you? Did you shake his hand with your head?"
The man pulled out a flashlight and moved it front of Jacks eyes. "Follow that." He then concluded. "Your left pupil is bigger than the other one. Looks like a concussion to me." "One hell of a handshake or do you guys want to tell us what really happened?" Nurse Frankenstein added with a weird mixture of a frown and smile that only her face could manage.

"God that took longer than I expected." Mia groaned, turning the corner with her hands full of the laminilla file folders the hospital used. It was just supposed to be a quick errand, but of course nothing was ever as easy as it was supposed to.
She dumped the folders on the desk and smiled at the nurse behind the computer. "Hey, hope you didn't mind covering my shift for me... It got so crazy up there tha-"
"I was just wondering whether Mia Toretto is around." Mia froze and looked at the opened doorway, just catching sight of Brian. What was he doing here?
She heard the doctor call for the nurse so she quickly straightened her clothes and rushed in, trying to look professional. She took one look at Jack and Brian and frowned deeply. They were hurt- bad from what she could tell. She was going to kill them. "What happened?"

"Miss Toretto, how nice of you to join us." The rasta doc looked at the door and then shot her a look as if to say. 'Knock next time.' He walked to the door and mumbled before he left. "Aparently they've been shaking hands. You know these two?"
Nurse Betty looked over also very interested in the answer to this question.
For a moment Brian breathed a sigh of releive but just for a very short moment. Then he realized that Mia might not be so pleased to see them here and might give him the speech of his life. The worst moment of the evening after Angel executing a man and nurse Betty licking her lips while giving him the eye might still be ahead of him. "We thought we'd pay you a visit." He pointed at his brother. "That's my brother, Jack."

The nurse that walked in this time was a lot easier on the eyes than that other thing that had to pass for a woman and that was an understatement. The girl was beautiful. His brother sure knew how to pick them, which made him wonder why he couldn't ever meet someone like that. "Whatever he may have told you about me, don't believe him. He is always full of crap." That was one thing Jack wanted to get out of the way, now on to the second thing. "If you ever get bored of my brother, just look me up. I'm sure we could have fun." He was mostly just saying it to annoy his brother, though he would be lying if he said he'd be against it if it actually did happen. From the corner of his eye he could see that it was working like a charm. The look on Brian's face said it all.

Mia blushed, looking over the two in the room. "Yeah, I know them. They have... tight grips." She sent a glare between the two, letting them both know just how much trouble they were both in when they were alone. "I can take them up to x-ray." She took the folder from the doctor and waited until he left and shut the door behind him.
Mia crossed her arms, looking between them both, trying to decide what to start looking for first. She flipped through the folder, smiling at Jack as he tried to defend himself. "Oh, don't worry, he says you have a lot more in common than you think." She smirked, knowing neither of the boys were gonna like that answer. She winked at the younger O'Conner, motioning for them both to follow her. "It's nice to meet you Jack... I'm Mia."
"Aren't I a little old for you?" She teased, knowing that poor Brian was going to go into a jealous rage if she didn't watch it. She didn't honestly know how old Jack was, but she was sure she was probably just as much older than him as she was younger than Brian.

Of course the teasing did it's trick. Mia and Jack in one room. For some reason she looked very hot in that uniform she was wearing. Brian had to get jealous at the two even if they were just teasing. He knew Jack usually worked pretty well as a chick magnet. It seemed to be some kind of gene their father had passed down to them.
Brian glared at Jack and then told Mia. "You might want to take an x-ray of his other hand as well." Then he looked back at Jacks amused face. "In case he tries to put it on you!" He was just playing but wouldn't have a problem putting his knuckles in Jacks face if he ever made a move. Brian was sure he wouldn't though.
When they left the room to go upstairs he quickly closed the door behind them to make sure the 'thing' wouldn't follow.

Jack opened his mouth to say something else to Mia, but then decided against it. At the moment Brian was just playing and he'd liked to keep it that way. He just wasn't in a suicidal mood right now. Instead, he smirked at Brian's threat and remarked. "Ah, brotherly love.. Isn't it precious?"
While they followed Mia to the x-ray room, he couldn't help but cop a few glances at her ass. It was hard not to. It looked pretty fine in that outfit and he figured he deserved to look at something he could actually appreciate for a change after tonight. Just as long as he didn't do it too obvious, right? He knew she was taken and he was rather fond of both of his hands. No need to get the other one broken as well.

If he was blind maybe he wouldn't have seen the looks Jack shot at her ass but right now Brian was just half deaf. He mouthed "You're so dead!" to Jack and watched him walk into the x-ray room. The cop leaned against the wall outside and watched Mia talk to her colleague before the door was closed. The chair next to him looked pretty inviting so he sat down and put his head in his hands. While he was waiting he noticed how tired and sore he was. Brian wasn't 25 any more and he could feel it every time he got into a fight. With a long yawn he rubbed his hands though his hair and then streched his aching limbs. What a night. Brian couldn't help but wonder what to tell Mia. He cared about her and didn't want to make her upset. But the truth would make her upset and not telling the truth as well. It was a lose-lose situation. But that was one thing he couldn't afford: To lose her...again.

"Brotherly love indeed."
Mia lead both the O'Conner boys back to the x-ray room and handed over the papers to the technician on duty. The girl took the papers and headed off into the other room. She motioned to Jack, "Follow Cheyenne. She'll have you through after a few shots and I'll take you back to a waiting room." She looked over Jack's hurt hand, worriedly as he walked into the room. She waited until he was gone to turn back to Brian.
She was going to let him have it. How dare he get into trouble again after finally calming things back down? How dare he drag his little brother into ...whatever he was involved in? Oh, Mia was really going to let him have it.
That was until she turned around and saw him. Brian looked absolutely defeated, sagged into a chair looking much older than he really was. She sighed, anger completely forgotten. Walking over to him, she knelt in front of him trying to check out his damage. She noticed the obvious cuts and bruises on his face and arms, but she couldn't tell how bad they were with just a glance. "Now that we got Jack settled, how are you?"

"Hm?" Brian looked up at her beautiful face. Instead of giving her a straight up answer he took her hands and rubbed them gently. Avoiding her worried look he mumbled. "Sorry. I'm sorry....and tired." He grinned slightly. "And old and sore. How are you?" Brian motioned for her to sit down next to him in an empty chair while they were waiting. "Can you come home when we're done? How long do you have to work today?" He felt the need to just hold her tight for a while and the hospital wasn't the right place for it.

"Oh hush, you're not old. Too old to go running around like a kid in high school, but not old." Mia took the seat beside Brian and smiled at their hands together. They did seem to fit so perfectly.
Brian asking her to come home with him made her stomach do flips. She smiled, blushing again and looking to the clock on the wall. "Looks like I'm here for another hour. By the time you and Jack get out, I'll only be a little bit..." She looked over at Brian, hoping to convey her concern. "As long as you promise not to do anymore stupid shit tonight, I'll head over to your place..."

Brian put his arm around her back and pulled her towards him. He gave her a kiss on her soft cheek. "Does this qualify as stupid shit?" Then he leaned his head against hers and sighed grateful that she seemed somewhat understanding and wasn't tearing his head off right now. After a long pause when he listened for Jacks wining and complaining which he expected to hear behind the closed door Brian mumbled. "I feel aweful cause Jack got hurt. I asked him to stay outside but I should have know he'd stick his thick head in. He never listens. He probably just wanted to help me." Brian wasn't looking for her to say it was okay because he felt it wasn't. His whole life he felt some kind of responsibility for his younger brother. It wasn't like Brian was a saint but Jack definetly needed a guiding hand. Even though he wasn't a kid anymore he acted like one most of the time. "Sorry I shouldn't put this on you. I just thought you might be able to put as little in his file as possible. I don't know where this gang has their eyes and ears."

Mia smiled, kissing Brian on the cheek in return. "Trust me, I know about pig-headed brothers. And cops." She teased, patting his knee. "It's not your fault that he's here, Bri. We'll get him fixed up and out of here in no time, and you both can go back to fighting like the brothers you are, okay?"
Up until that moment, Mia had thought that the accident had been a car accident or a bar fight. She never would have thought of anything gang related- her heart stopped cold, earlier anger returning. She jerked back from Brian's embrace, glaring at him surprised. "Gang? What gang, Brian?! What the hell were you two doing??"

After having a couple of x-rays done, Jack finally re-emerged from the room again, followed by a slightly red-cheeked Cheyenne. He'd been chatting her up, making her blush throughout the whole procedure. Despite his effort though, he didn't get much of a reaction out of her. Maybe she was just shy? "You and me should hook up sometime." He smirked at the girl before he turned around towards Brian and Mia, who'd just snapped. She looked like she was ready to tear his brother's head off and she was actually quite intimidating to watch despite her size. His smirk was gone in an instant. "Wrong timing?"

"No, perfect timing." Brian got up releived that he wouldn't have to endure Mias anger by himself. He pointed at Jack. "It was all his fault." was his attempt to lighten the situation with a joke.
"I'll explain to you downstairs, okay?" He started walking down the hallway hoping she'd cool off a little on the way down.
When they finally emerged out of the elevator door Brian had to realize his trick didn't work.
So while Jack went inside to see Dr. Rasta again he explained. "Jack borrowed money from the wrong kind of chick as race buy in, who we beleive is the head of a gang. He couldn't pay her back so her protector paid us a visit and ...let's just say he was very convincing. We had to help him with a ...hm...'task', which went kind of wrong, very wrong actually." He took a deep breath and looked down at his bloody clothes. There it was. Now he expected a slap in the face and was ready for it.
Inside the room Jack had to wait a little, which he probably didn't mind. The the rastaman came inside followed by nurse Evil and looked at the x-rays on his screen. "There we have it...bingo. Just like I thought." He held his hand out for a high five. "Oh, I'm so good. Everything I said was right tonight. Metacarpal fracture right there." He pointed at one of the bones. "We'll slap a cast on that ánd you won't use it for the next 6 weeks if you ever want to play the piano again. With or without pain killers? Oh and by the way, with a concusion we offer a 48h stay at our hotel here but since you just shook somebody's hand you probably want to go home, right?"

Mia quickly took the x-rays from the technican and lead both boys back down the hallway and into the elevator in silence. She kept her arms crossed and her eyes narrowed as a silent reminder to Brian that he wasn't off the hook yet.
She lead them back to Jack's room and set the files out for the doctor before joining Brian outside. She listened to Brian's story in continued silence, feeling the anger building. As soon as he was finished, she reared back and smacked him as hard as she could. Her hand stung, and all the nurses nearby stopped what they were doing to look up at the two.
"Jesus, Brian, do you even know what you have gotten into? Who are these people?? I thought you were a cop, I mean, do you normally get involved with gangs just because your brother owes them money?"
Mia bit her tongue off for a second, realizing how unfair she was being, but continued when the anger proved too strong to hold back. "I know you were just trying to protect your brother, and look where it got you! You weren't seriously hurt this time, but what about the next time?" She took a long and deep breath to cool off, but she could still feel the simmering Italian anger.
She put her hands on her hips, "So? What now? Do you still owe them money? Is this 'collector' guy gonna be back?"

Brian never expected Mia to actually do it. So when she slapped him ii totally caught him by surprise virtually causing his jaw to drop. He resisted the urge to touch his cheek which was turning red within seconds. The only thing he managed to do was to look at her with a mixture of surprise and confusion. "Mia?" Brian had to rearrange the picture of her in his mind a little by adding some edge to it. He almost had to commend her for finally letting her feelings out. She had to hold them inside so long. Then he started studdering."I...don't know..I guess so. We did, what he wanted us to do...hang on...why did you just slap me?" Without waiting for her answer he actually got a little sour as well. "Yeah, the whole thing was with FBI backup. They wanted an in into the gang. It worked. But you're not supposed to know this."

Brian looked like a confused and wounded puppy. If Mia hadn't been so angry at him for what had happened, she would have laughed at the look he was giving her. His cheek was turning fire-red, it had to hurt almost as much as her hand did. But for now, she was too pissed to honestly care.
Mia had dealt with a few gangs in her time- after all, it wasn't like she lived in the best neighborhood or had the best role models around her all the time. Dom had a few run-ins with gangs when she was younger and all of them had been sticky situations. "Did this guy tell you that you were even? Did you hear this "chick" say everything was okay?"
She blushed, looking around at the people staring. They quickly went back to work, and Mia turned back to Brian. "I won't say I'm sorry, because I'm not. I'll just say that you deserved it. After all, someone has to knock some sense in that thick skull. Might as well be me..."
She saw his eyes harden and knew she was in for a fight. Good, Mia was ready to let Brian have it. When he mentioned the FBI, she could feel her skin crawl. She faught back a shudder and dropped her voice to a whisper. "The FBI sent you and your little brother into a gang so they could have an "in"? Brian, do you know how dangerous that is?! Why did you let them send your brother in there??"
(( Ahhh, mean Mia! *runs and hides* ))
