He offered to stay when Dom was not around. “No, no. I am sure I´ll be okay. I mean two months went by and he never contacted me, so I guess I shouldn´t worry,” and she hoped Sam stayed that way, away from her.
She rubbed her eyes feeling a little sleepy. It was a good thing today was Friday; she was going to wake up late that was for sure. She looked at the small damaged roof. “That happened last week, crazy California weather, it was a Thursday night and windy, very windy,”
“I´ll need to fix that,” another chore to add on her to-do list. She was used to do the normal chores but when it came to that… she had to wait and see for herself how good she was at fixing the roof, it sounded like fun and dangerous too at the same time.

"Just promise me one thing, Mia." Brian leaned forward placing his elbows on the picnic table. "If he shows his face again let me know." The ex-cop would make damn sure that the guy would get a one way ticket to where he belonged: Prison.
A slight breeze, that moved the large branches of the tree that broken the roof, was now cooling their sweaty skin. It was welcome. "That wind must have been strong to break off a large branch like that. I can help you fix that roof." The last thing Brian wanted was fro Mia to drop throught the broken roof and hurt herself. "I have the whole weekend off. Don't have to go back to my wonderful new job until Monday." The job matched the old bomb he was driving. It was just as ridiculous but it payed the rent. "Have you ever heard about O'Reillys Sweet Parts?" He let the words melt on his tongue. What a stupid name. "It the most likely worst garage in LA...and they gave me a job." Brian wiggled his brows at her.

Could she take action and let Brian know if Sam ever showed up? No. If Brian ever knew about Sam paying her a visit again, first he was going to find the guy, beat him to death and probably then call the police. She didn’t need to worry or Brian. Sam would never show up at her doorstep but to keep Brian´s at ease she nodded her head. “Yes, “
“You know how crazy the weather gets around here, hot one day, rainy and cool the next,” She played with her empty Corona bottle. “Really? That would be wonderful, I can use a little help fixing that,” pointing to the roof.
She stifled a laugh as he complained about his new job wiggling his brows. “It can´t be that bad,” but by the look he gave her, Mia changed her mind. “Ok. O´ Reily can be a crappy place just like the tuna sandwich,”

Her 'yes' was a little too hesitant to be for real. Brian could read Mia's expressions by now as well. "Mia!" he scolded her.
"I'll come back tomorrow and help you, okay? You should have seen the weather where I grew up. It changed so fast sometimes you didn't have time to put a rain jacket on. One time...I was thirteen, you know, big baggy shorts and shirt, crazy curls..." he gestured wildly while he was describing himself as a teenager. "I was at a shop with my mother once. When we looked outside we saw the dark clouds coming but before we could get to the car and get her umbrella she was soaked to the bone...in a white dress....and underwear with floral print. I still know that today because everybody could see it." He grinned at the memory of his mother and how she was all in a flutter. Back then he was still a teenage boy and quite embarassed about the fact that his mothers underwear could practically be seen by everybody on the block.
It occurred to him that he didn't even know a lot about Mia's childhood. "What about you? I don't really know a lot about your past. Just that your mom spoke Portugese and must have been quite the looker and that your dad liked that darn old Charger and barbecues. What was it like growing up for you?" Finally they had found something to talk about that was easy.

“Relax! He is not going to show up,” but if he did he´ll never know. The was an interesting change of topic about childhood, she smile as the image came to mind of Brian with his blonde curly hair and big baggy shorts. She chuckle at how embarrassed he was back then of the little incident her mother had. “Me? Well… we were a normal happy family, dad was this big, handsome Italian guy that always went to church every Sunday morning, that is how he met my mother, he was in a hurry to get to church and he didn’t noticed this lady was on his way, he was running so fast he knocked the poor woman to the ground, embarrassed of his action he helped her to stand up and from there, mom and dad were inseparable,” She sighed as Mia continued to share what she remembered of her parents. “So, every Sunday dad would always invite the whole neighborhood under one condition, if he didn´t see you at church you couldn´t have BBQ, that´s how we met Letty, Leon, and Vince. And every day when I went to sleep he would stay up reading the next chapter to help me with Math the next day as my mom took me to bed, years went by and mom got sick and died. Dad instilled Dom to take care of me. I also remember Stephano at the church one day, he was a good friend of my dad too, and well I am sure Dom told you what happened to dad,”

Brian didn't miss that cheeky little smile that came to her lips when he talked about what he looked like back then. Even ten years ago when they first met he still looked a little different then now but back then...oh the phases he went through. "You wouldn't have talked to me back then. I was trying really hard to be cool. I went through phases depending on my friends. Rome was the baggy pants influence, before that I tried the 'polo shirt nerd'." He laughed out loud at the memories. LOL"I bet you were super cute as a little girl. I never would have stood a chance with you!" He pictured her with dark braids and short dress. Then he listened to Mia talk about her family. The way she talked about her father and mother was so warm and loving it almost made Brian envious. There was so much appreciation in her voice. "Your father must have been a great guy." He became a little lost in thoughts about his own father. "Not sure about my dad. I don't really remember much about him. He just wasn't there..." Suddenly there was a sour sound to his voice. "My kids will say the same about me one day."

“The polo shirt nerd?” she laughed out loud as he tried to picture Brian, with a nice polo shirt and baggy pants. “I am more than sure you´d find a way to talk to me even if I didn´t talk to you, you did it with the tuna sandwich, maybe if you tried to impress me with that polo shirt nerd,”
She smiled to him; a slight red color tinted her cheeks. “Stop…” tearing her eyes from him as he started to describe how cute she must have looked when she was little and she was exactly the way he described her minus the braids. She wasn’t a fan of braids when little, she always wore a dress with her long and sleek hair, occasionally in a ponytail.
She turned to see him when he talked about how her dad was a great guy. “He was…” Their chat turned a little dark when Brian confessed his dad wasn’t around that much, but when he implied about his twins one day talking how her father was just as their grandfather.
Mia took a hold of his hand on hers. “Look at me,” as his blue eyes avoided her gaze. “Mira would never poison your kids with those words against their dad; it was her decision to walk away from you. That doesn’t make you a bad father, you´ve been back and forth watching over your children, you´ve always been there for her and for them. This better be the last time you say something like that. You are a great father,” squeezing his hand gently.
OOC: That picture is hilarious!

It was hard to hide his emotions...or lack of them when it came to his own father. "I mean my dad is a good guy. He always pushed us and told us whatever he thought was good for us but I can't recall him going to a Baseball game with us or watch any of the school plays or whatever artsy thing Jack did in school. He was too busy fighting crimes in the huge town of Barstow." There was a bitter taste to his words. Brian wished he had happy family memories with his father but there were only a few. Mostly he spent time with his friends and uncle when he was younger.
But what was really bad is that he was on the road to become that very same man. Not on his own free will but what should he do.
He felt Mia's hand on his arm but didn't want to meet her gaze and reveal the dissappointment in his eyes. He felt like a failure even though he couldn't do anything about it. "I'm no father at all!" He exclaimed almost taken back that Mia would even call him that. "Mira doesn't need to tell them anything. One day they'll see that other kids have a dad, who's always around and where am I?" He felt his throat tighten while he pushed out the words. "I so wish I could change her mind...but what good would that do if we don't love each other?" Finally he met her gaze hoping to find some sort of answer in her eyes. He needed to hear her say that what he was doing was okay because he simply didn't know what to do. "Should I push harder?" Then he let his head drop again. "Who can blame her. From day one I've been trouble for her. She lost her job because of me, almost had to go to jail...then got her kids taken from her...who can blame her?" He grit his teeth because despite all of this Brian was blaming her.

It really affected Brian not to have his dad with him. She couldn’t imagine what he must have felt when he had a baseball game or school play. Her parents and brother were always there supporting her. She never found herself alone, even when her parents die. Dom was always there for her, no matter what.
To her he was an excellent father; if he didn’t care then he wouldn’t drive to wherever the hell Mira was to see his children. She didn’t have an answer to his question because he knew the answer and just like he mentioned if Mira didn’t want anything with him then why force her? To make him feel better she would say to try and get back with Mira but what if that made things worse?
Why would she give that advice to him? Why? If Mia was the one picking him off the ground. If Mira loved him, why did she run away like that? Didn’t she have the slightest idea how much pain she was causing Brian. She always had an advice to give but right now, she couldn’t find one. She stood up to go around to where Brian was and sat down next to him giving him a hug. Sometimes words weren’t necessary, sometimes what the other person wanted was to be listen, but how to answer to his question when also knew the answer?

The reassurance he was hoping for never came. No nice words, no 'it's going to be okay' or even anger directed at Mira. Anything would have been acceptable. Instead Mia chose to remain quiet and just listen. For a moment Brian looked up at her but couldn't read her face so he dropped his face again getting lost in his self destructive thoughts when suddenly he felt the her sit down next to him and enclose him in her slender, caring arms. At first he wanted to back away but then he gave in to his desire to be held and comforted in a bad situation like this. That hug felt calming, soothing, reassuring. More than any words would. It meant she was there for Brian and understood without pushing the blame around. Brian relaxed into her arms and wrapped his own around her small frame closing his eyes. Slowly his tight throat started feeling better and he was able to let go of his anger and worries. "Thank you." He muttered after a few minutes and opened his eyes again. "I don't know how you do it...but it works." That didn't solve his problems but still made him feel better.

The way he relaxed in her arms and wrapped his around hers confirmed he was so much calm and not so desperate. She removed her arms from around his body and just stared at him with a slight smile and nodded at his words. “I know that doesn’t solve your problems,” She started to say. “I could tell you that everything it´s going to be okay, because I believe that. I could answer your question but you already know the answer. I just—don’t know. What can I do to lift that blame off your shoulders? It kills me seeing you like this” He might feel better for a few seconds or while he was with her but what was going to happen when he went home? Was that blame still going to haunt him? If she could bring his children to him, she would do that. But it wasn’t that easy…

“I could tell you that everything it´s going to be okay, because I believe that." Why on earth her words made sense Brian didn't know but they seemed true because they were coming from Mia. "There's nothing you can do but listen. You can't lift the blame. The only thing I could do would be to press for full custody but first of all I'd never get it with my record and I don't want them to have no mother. I think I'll just do my best to see them as much as I can and once Mira relaxes have them with me more often." How that would work financially Brian didn't know but he'd make it work.
Taking a deep breath he let his hands drop from Mia and looked into her eyes. Finally a small smile returned. "You really got a way with people."
Brian cast a brief glance at his watch. "Word is that there'll be a race at about 11 pm. That gives us 3 hours, if you want to go. Any idea what to do in the meantime?"

“You really got a way with people." She smiled at him. “That´s good,” she started to gather the plates to take them inside and to the kitchen sink. He looked down at his watch but didn’t pay attention until he mentioned the word race, immediately her head snap up and her whole face lit up.
“That´s great. We have to go then…” until he said they had three more hours. “Well- I´ll take a shower. I feel sleepy so a shower should take care of that. Can you take those?” pointing to the empty bowl of salad and the ketchup, mustard and mayo bottles. She stood up from the bench with the plates on her hands walking to the kitchen with Brian right behind her.
“Make yourself at home. I´ll be right back,” was the last thing she said before she hurried upstairs to her room. She walked inside the bathroom and closed the door striping down of her clothes and stepping into the warm spraying water. About thirty minutes she finished her shower and wrapped a towel around her naked body, her hair brush and still damp looking at her closet trying to figure out what to wear.

It was great to see Mia's face light up the way it did when the word 'race' was mentioned. She was a true Toretto! "Look at you." He smiled briefly and then took the bowls to carry them into the kitchen. While Mia went upstairs to take a shower Brian cleaned the dishes just like he used to do in old times and put them back onto the shelf.
The sound of the running water upstairs let him know that Mia was in no hurry to be done, which he didn't mind because it gave him time to get hos feelings under controll again and calm down completely. He needed to occupy himself with something so he stepped back outside to take a closer look at the damage of the roof. With a beer in his hand he pulled a chair closer to have a look on top of the garage, which wasn't high enough so he went around the house where he found a ladder.
The damage was actually bigger than he throught because the fallen branch had left a crack in the plastic material of the ceiling that could easily give way to the weight of the wood and make it crash down into the garage. This needed to be fixed quickly.
When Mia returned Brian was still on the ladder but turned to see her. With her wet hair and tight jeans and white top she looked stunning and made him whistle in admiration. "Nobody's going to pay attention to any races tonight." He complimented her.

As she looked inside her closer she found the first top she wore when Brian entered into Dom´s world, she even had those big hoop earrings, the shoes and the jeans. “Wow…” she never got rid of those, she was a baby and didn’t know what the hell she was getting herself into, and she did it of course to win Brian´s heart and at the end she did.
Even the books she used back at school and that oversized gray shirt she wore when she came back after running from the police, until she heard just outside her window another call pull up, and it was none other than her brother with Brian. All this memories came to mind, how she stumbled on her way downstairs with Dom and Letty who were getting ready to start some action of their own. “Eww…” she stopped her thoughts right there.
Mia looked down; she still had the towel wrapped around her body. She decided to wear some jeans and a white top and finally walked downstairs to find the dishes were clean, there were certain things that never changed.
Mia stepped out to the patio to see Brian up in a ladder seeing up close the damaged roof. She chuckled when he complimented her. “Thank you for doing the dishes. How bad is it?” she wondered as he still was up in that ladder checking out what the tree branch caused to the roof.

It was hard for Brian to actually take his eyes of Mia but he forced himself to let his eyes roam the length of the roof once more before he let her know. "Pretty bad, I'd say. If you're unlucky the whole thing will come down on you." Slowly he climbed down the ladder because his knee was still acting up every now and then and he didn't want to take an ungracefull, embarassing fall. "I'll fix it tomorrow. It's a full day job because the whole left side has cracks in the panels. Good thing I'm driving a truck now." He remarked a little sarcastic. Brian knew that Dom had a chain saw and all other tools he'd need except for the panels.
For a moment he thought about whether he should ask for Doms help but who knew where he was right now. Then he looked back at Mia and noticed her inquisitive look. "What do you think I can't do it...that you're going to end up with a little witch house in your yard?" He chuckled. "Wait and see." Then he took her hand and gently pulled her over to the old hammock that hung in the very back between two old oak trees. He sat down in it and waited for Mia to join him. Hopefully the old material wouldn't tear under their weight.

“ That bad? Ouch, having the roof coming down wouldn´t be fun at all,” she waited a little bit more until he joined her.
“It´s going be a long day tomorrow, is there anything I should buy for you to fix that?” She frown a little as she thought about more what Brian had to do the next day, and for him to be up all day plus the hot sun, burning his skin not only that but she didn’t know how his knee was, even though he assured her he felt better. “Just promise me you´ll take breaks in between. Since you´ll be up in that ladder all day… I just don´t want you to injure your knee or something,”
She chuckled too when he question her about him not doing a great job. “I know you´ll be able to fix it,” He took her hand gently guiding her to the old hammock that was barely used now, on occasion she slept out there just to hear the little nature she had in her backyard or just to watch the moon and stars since the view was not blocked completely by the huge trees.
She finally sat down next to him enjoying the sound of the crickets and the fireflies starting to shine in the dark a few feet from them giving away their covers, making it easy for them to spot them.

While he was sitting next to her he smiled at her worry about him. It could be a real pain but right now it just showed how much she cared. "Take breaks...you're sweet. I'm not going to fall off the ladder, Mia. I'm 32 not 85." He leaned his head back into the soft material of the slightly swinging hammock and looked up at the stars that were a little visible because the sun was almost down now. "There is something you could get....lot's of cool Corona, other than that I'll buy whatever I need at Home Hardware." Brian could feel the grass beneath his feet after he kicked his Vans off. In front of them small fireflies were trying to attract females with their glowing. The hammock was bent in a way that made them both slide to the middle until their sides were pressed against each other. A few years back that was the most normal thing but right now he wonder how appropriate or not this was. He shook that thought off by telling himself that they were good friends and being close was just fine. "Are you okay?" He wondered leaving the question pretty open to interpretation.

While he made himself comfortable in the hammock she stayed in a sitting position kicking off her flats and feeling the cool breeze in between her toes. “That is no problem. There will be tons of Corona first thing in the morning,”
She leaned her back on the hammock; naturally their sides were pressed against each other. She raised her head and moved her hair to one side, the smell of her shampoo invading not only her nostrils but also his.
It felt a little weird yet comfortable as if they never parted ways. “Are you okay?” his question meant lots of things. She felt okay but she was more than sure what he was trying to ask her. Did she feel comfortable the way they were…like now feeling both of their skin touching, feeling each other inhale and exhale.
To have him this close was dangerous not because he was going to hurt her, but because each second she loved him even more, because she wanted to say so many things to him, because she wanted him. So, instead of answering his question she turned to see him. “Are you?” while her eyes held so many questions, but she didn´t want to ask him, or do something, afraid he was going to reject her or break that “friendship” they both had.

Brian had been hoping for an answer but didn't get one. Instead he got a question in return. Was he okay? Not really, not in most ways. He used to be a cop, that job was gone, he used to be a good racer, his car was gone, so were his ex-girlfriend with their kids so in many ways the answer was no. Brian let his head roll to the side to see her holding her hair back and alooking at him with those deep dark eyes. Instead of answering he only raised his brows and made a face telling her that she knew. A moment later a small smile played on his lips because there was an answer he could give without spoiling the moment. "Right now I am." Then he let his head roll back and grinned up at the sky. If there was anything alright in his life it was Mia. No matter whether she only was his friend or more. Mia was a steady , good person in his life. "Now you!" He wanted to know what she thought. And then added a little more serious. "Is there a reason why you haven't called?" For a moment Brian was worried that maybe she was happy not to hear anything from him and his mess for a few weeks, or maybe she had a boyfriend and couldn't use Brian in her life anymore.
