She rolled her head back laughing hearing his answer. “What kind of answer is that?” her tone of voice wasn´t angry at all but found it funny, he knew what was running through her mind even when she hadn’t share a thing.
“Right now, I feel okay too,” her smile got bigger knowing that wasn´t what he wanted to hear, it was fun teasing him but she had to stop at his last question.
She turned to see him again not knowing how to answer. She didn’t call because she was busy but even though she didn’t see him those two months he was always on her mind. It was scary, to reveal how she really felt.
The words were there but the fear was stronger than her. What if she took that step? What would he do? Her heart started to pound inside her chest. She considered herself a pretty confident person but to have him like this changed everything.
“You really want to know?” her heart wouldn’t seem to calm down. What she was about to do could either bring them together even more or break them apart. “Please, don’t hate me,” she whispered to him as she broke the distance and finally kiss him, the kiss was tender, innocent. Could he now understand her? Since that day they talked, the tears, the pain that tear at her insides because she loved him but couldn’t have him.
Why wasn’t he responding to her? Her heart skipped a beat. Was he taken aback for her action? Maybe she made a mistake. If he at least pretended, but wouldn’t that make her feel worse and more ashamed than she already was for "taking advantage" of him? She wanted nothing more than for him to embrace and hold her tight against his chest and to feel his lips fighting with her own deciding for who should be the one in control of that kiss, everything around her disappear, and waited and prayed for him to do something..

Her answer made him smirk. Of course she'd repeat what he had just told her when he wanted to know more from her. After all Mia knew all about his current state. in regards to the question about the call Brian didn't get an answer, just a long look that made him feel a little nervous. Maybe he was getting on her nerves or she had found somebody, who was now her priority. Who could blame her? Yet Brian felt a weird sensation in the pit of his stomach. 'You really want to know?' "Of course." He nodded holding his breath. Please don't hate me.' She said and confirmed that there was something wrong. 'Oh boy...' he thought to himself but then she suddenly leaned in and closed her eyes before she placed her lips on his. For a moment Brian froze because Mia surprised him more than anyone could imagine. Sure there had always been a lot of attraction between the two, they had even had a relationship twice. Both knew what they felt for each other but Brian was in the worst of situations and Mia had been the one who didn't want a relationship with him anymore. The last thing he expected was for her to make a move like this. It felt right though. Brian had been think about this moment every now and then but didn't think she'd take the risk. But here she was with her gentle lips on his, so he naturally joined her after overcoming a moment of surprise. Reaching his hand around her back he softly sucked on her lips. This wasn't a wild passionate kiss, but a deep, true one. From one moment to the next the world shifted slightly falling back into a place where it should have been for a long time. Then he pulled back and looked at her in awe. He didn't want to break the spell so he remained silent a slight smile tugging on the corners of his lips where he could still feel her kiss linger.

She wished she knew what was going through his mind, of course he was in shock, she was even more scared of what he could do but it was done and she couldn’t take it back. It took a little bit more for him to react and all her doubts and fears disappeared the moment he felt his hand on her back and reacting to her, by not pushing her away but kissing her back. It wasn’t a passionate one and she didn’t mind, it was true one.
He had the option of faking it, but she knew him and the way he was kissing her meant it was sincere and that he liked it, that was good. Brian looked surprised, same as her. She never thought she was going to make a move on him. It wasn’t like her but if she didn’t do it, there would be no other opportunity, and if she waited would he ever kiss her back just like he did?
They broke the kiss and she gently placed her forehead on his, catching the slight smile on his lips while she closed her eyes for a moment and couldn’t hide her own, she finally opened them to look directly into those perfectly blue eyes. “What?” she gently asked.

The kiss had sent him into a different world for brief moment. A world several years ago when everything wasn't picture perfect but much simpler than now. A gretty good place and time. Life had never been easy and straight forward since they first met. Brian's job brought that on as well as her brothers life style. It felt almost like these old times could be revived. Maybe Mia was the key to happiness for him. Could she be the one saving him from all of his troubles? Was it fair to hope for something like that? Too many thoughts ran through his head when all he wanted to do was look into her brown eyes and enjoy what was happening.
Feeling her lean her forehead against his he mimicked her. Gently his hand rubbed her back while they were closer than they had been in almost two years. Right now Brian's heart did little jumps inside of his chest despite everything that had happened before. His free hand was placed on hers when they looked at each other again and she asked 'what'. Brian looked at their intertwined fingers for a moment. Her tone of skin was darker than his. "Nothing...you just caught me by surprise." Had she been planning this or thinking about it? Was it just the moment in the backyard with the fireflies and remainder of a red sunset. Once again he looked up at her and added. "The kind of surprise that you could repeat any day."

She would be more than happy to repeat that kind of surprise any day, she smiled as his words as her free hand caressed his hair and she leaned down to kiss him again, but this kiss was different, she took her time to taste his lips, she could spend all day and night with him and will never get tired of him. She wondered if Mira got to know Brian this well, even when it came to being intimate, this man knew her so damn well, he knew what she liked and disliked, her favorite color, what kind of music she listened to, what family meant to her, everything she could possible imagine he knew.
It felt like a dream, like this wasn´t real but then his hand rubbed her back sending chills down her spine. She was sure that even if she dated other guys, none of them would have that effect, the kind of effect Brian created in her, and how her body came alive with a simple touch.
So, was that a yes for what was going on between them right now? He looked like lots of things started running through his mind. “What´s going on inside that little head of yours, Brian?” she encouraged him to share his thoughts with her. She forgot about the race, she was sure they had more than an hour to hit the streets, but being like this was so much better.
It might seem weird for Brian to see Mia take that risk of kissing him; it was hard to explain that part to him. What she felt was real, what she revealed to him about still loving him was true, everything was true. Would he accept her in his life once again despite all the trouble he was going through? She was always going to be there for him, she was never going to let him fall. To let him go once was a big mistake she wasn’t about to lose him again.

Brian felt her hand reach up and caress his hair, just like in old times with the only difference that it had been longer then. The touch was still the same, so was the effect. It gave him chills. The good kind. As if that one kiss hadn't been surprise enough Mia leaned in for another one, that was more like an explosion to Brian because it was more passionate and completely engulfed him. There was nothing else, just her and those lips tasting his. Brian allowed himself to join in. He gently sucked on her bottom lip, let his tongue trail along it and then slide inside her mouth to play with hers. There was nothing innocent about there kiss but there was also nothing forbidden. For once they showed each other what they actually felt, which came as a great relieve. This kind of closeness was hard to match but no matter how long they'd been seperated it would always return. Brian squeezed her hand, which he was still holding, and pulled her closer to hold her tight when their lips parted. If only this moment could last forever.
After a while Mia wanted to know what he was thinking. He contemplated her question for a minute and what exactly to tell her but opted for not holding back. "I think we should have done this a long time ago and that we never should have split. This is what I want." Judging by her actions it was also what Mia wanted or needed.
Whether he'd be messing up his chance to maybe get back with Mira didn't matter because he had never felt the kind of closeness and appreciation that he shared with Mia. What good would it do their kids if they didn't love each other. Whether he was ready to actually have a relationship with Mia he didn't know.
Instead of telling her that he pulled her into another hug and kissed the top of her head. "I've never felt as close to anyone as I feel to you."

The way he handled that second kiss, made her lose her breath for a moment. She was glad he was back despite all their fights, despite how she (Mia) tried to push him away from her life, she was happy he found a way to approach and to never let her go.
A gentle smile appeared on her lips satisfied to hear his answer about what was in his mind about wanting this. “Letting you go was a stupid thing to do. I will never let you go. If this is what you want…” She looked up at him. “Then this is what I want too,” she placed her head on his chest, she fit so perfectly, it felt like home to be back in his arms, to feel his touch also hear his heartbeat.
Just like him, she never found another person even if she had her mind set to get over Brian every guy that tried to have a relationship with her, she turned them down. Those guys weren’t Brian, she had faith he was coming back after how she started treating him and now here they were…
“Do you still want to go to that race?” she giggled not removing her head from his chest. She was getting used to this, she was loving this and didn’t want to “break” this moment.

What was happening was hard to beleive. Nevertheless here they were in each others arms sharing a kiss or two. For how long had Brian wished for this? For how long had he been angry at Mia for breaking up with him and telling him to go because things were getting too much. Would that happen again? "I wish you'd never told me to leave...things would be so much different now." Maybe the two of them would have a relationship, maybe even kids. Maybe none of the crap in Miami or with jack would have happened. "It's too late to cry over that now though."
When she asked about the race he thought about it briefly but decided that the moment was too precious to run away...even to a race. "There are other races...plus we still have half an hour."
For a while they just sat there with their feet touching the grass and pushing every now and then to rock the hammock. Then Brian asked her. "You know that my life is really complicated right now and Mira will not like this...us. Maybe you should think about that before you invite me back into your life." Brian didn't want to ruin the moment but he also didn't want to get his hopes up just to find out that Mia wasn't able to deal with his problems. Slowly he traced his thumb over the skin on her hand. It was soft and warm.

It was hard not to feel sad when he confessed he wished she hadn´t run and break things off, he was right, things could´ve been so different for them now. But there was nothing she could do to go back in time and to prevent what happened after she left him.
Good thing he didn’t suggest to go to the race, because the last thing she wanted to do was that, she wanted to stay like this surrounded by his warmth and arms too. The rocking back and forth of the hammock started to make her sleepy but then he spoke and she looked up as she recognize the sudden change in his voice.
“You know that I will always be by your side. To be honest, I don´t care what Mira thinks. As long as YOU want and accept me back into your life… That’s all that matters to me,” his thumb felt hot to the touch and rather than move her hand she enjoyed the sensation and waited to hear his decision.

'Typical Toretto' Brian thought about her statement that she didn't care what Mira thought. "Good." he smiled at her and kept rubbing her hand. Before he could answer her question his phone started ringing. For a moment he ignored it, then pulled it out to shut it off but the display said Mira's name. "It's her. I have to take this, Mia. She only calls if it's important." Excusing himself he pushed himself up from the hammock, which was easy, and then took the call. "Yeah, what is it?" His tone became at least two degrees colder when he was talking to her. "Really? Can't you call them to deliver it?" Brian sighed deeply and turned away from Mia but after a few words back and forth gave in. "Okay, I'll go and get it."
Shutting his phone off he turned back to the raven haired woman next to him. "I'm really sorry but I have to run to the pharmacy and get some cough medicine for the babies." He gave her a sorrowful look because he didn't want to leave her, not right now anyway, but he felt he needed to. Leaning down he gave her a peck on the lips and briefly ran his hand over her shoulder. "Don't be mad." Casting one last long glance at her Brian turned around to leave.

He was going to answer her question but she was more than sure the person calling was Mira and she was right. She nodded and moved so he could stand up and talk to Mira but cringed as his voice became unrecognizable to her, like it was another person, his body language changed in a second it was easy to notice.
“Don´t worry. I understand. Now go,” he didn’t look happy and wasn’t ready to go. He leaned down giving her a quick kiss that she accepted.
“Why would I be mad? I hope your children are okay.” She took a hold of his hand as he rubbed her shoulder. A slight smile let him know he had to go, he looked at her one last time and went to buy the medicine leaving her alone.
She curled up and kept rocking the hammock, for a moment she thought about Mira. The moment Mira knew Brian was back with her…Mira was going to flip, hopefully she wouldn´t try anything against him by using his children.
Mia finally closed her eyes taking her a few minutes to fall asleep, the hammock was still warm, and his cologne, the scent of it was stronger than her own perfume, a faint smile made its way to her lips, it was like he never left.

The whole way to the pharmacy Brian was torn between being worried about his kids and being upset because the moment with Mia had been too great. On top of that the old truck just didn't move the way he wanted it to.
He made it to the pharmacy near Mira's apartment, bought the medicine and hurried to get it to her. When he found her she was worn out, tired and overly worried because both babies had a slight fever and a cough. After enquiring about a doctor she waved him off but requested that he'd keep watching them because she was about to sleep standing up after a long night with crying babies. As much as Brian wanted to return to Mia as much he needed to stay with them and make sure they were okay.
The night was just as long as Mira's before, filled with crying, rocking, putting cold wash clothes on baby legs and foreheads. Brian hated seeing the two like this but he also felt like he was getting closer to them because he usually didn't sleep in the same place as they did. While he was sitting in the dark hoping both would stay asleep he thought about Mia and what had happened between them. It was like a small miracle so Brian made a plan to bring his children over to her one day, if Mira let him.
The next morning a bright ray of sunlight that fell on his face while he was sprawled out on the uncomfortable floor wearing the clothes of the day before. Groaning loudly he lifted his head to find the babies sound asleep. Their fever had come down and Mira promised to take them to a doctor anyway. Stiff as a board Brian made his way out of the apartment after kissing them goodbye.
First stop: Starbucks. Next Stop: Home Hardware, then back to Mia.

It was still early, the sun was starting to make its way out but it wasn’t as strong. She felt sleepy and in lazy mode, she promised Brian she´d have the fridge filled with Corona. She curled even more, her long hair shielding her eyes. She didn’t wake up or took a shower, she would wait for him and then… “Hmmm….” She groaned out loud.
There was no reason to get up grumpy but she did and made her way to Dom´s room taking out some of his clothes that was sure would fit Brian. She came back down still with a sleepy face and placed the clean clothes on the counter, her next stop was the kitchen. She cooked something quick for her and Brian leaving a small note on the counter. “Please! Wake me up after you ate” could be read as she made her way out to the hammock again and slept a little bit more.
The sound of the chirping birds were no longer audible to her, curling again on the hammock. Any cars passing by her house or even honking couldn’t bother her. She never heard from Brian and that worried her a little, naturally she stayed up hoping for him to call but he never did, she wanted to call him too but, he was with his children and didn’t want to disturb him, that is one of the reasons her body demanded more sleep, hopefully Brian would walk in at any minute or hour and wake her up.

This morning wasn't very pleasant even though he still walking on a cloud from last night. His back was sore and he was tired. When he finally had a coffee in his hand and was walking down the iles at the Hardware Store he yawned loudly. It seemed like somebody had put him in slow motion and those darn part for the roof were not only hard to find but as heavy as cement. Once he was back at Mia's home it was almost 9.30 and getting warmer by the minute. Brian started unloading his truck and carrying the parts into the yard next to the garage, which already made him break out in sweat, when he noticed a familiar figure in the hammock. Had she been sleeping here all night? Maybe waiting for him to return? Quietly he walked up to her and leaned down with a smile blowing slightly on her cheek to tickle her. "Shhh, hey!" Brian whispered. "Wake up, sleepihead.'" He let his hand caress her soft hair and sat down on the grass in front of her to watch her sleep...or hopefully wake up.

Was she dreaming? She heard a voice encouraging her to wake up from her deep sleep. She opened her eyes and closed them again trying to adjust them to the blinding sun and found Brian in front of her. “Hey,” she slowly sat down on the hammock and rubbed her eyes once she was able to see better she joined Brian on the grass. She couldn’t help but pout childishly wanting to sleep more.
She kissed him still rubbing her eyes and embracing him at the same time pushing the blonde ex-cop gently to the grass, just like they were yesterday but now a whole lot more comfortable. “Good morning. Please tell me you are here to sleep five more minutes and then you´ll start working on that roof. I just need five more minutes…”
She was starting to sleep again, suddenly remembering about his children. “How are the twins doing?”

Mia was incredibly cute when she was sleepy. Like a pouty little girl. Brian embraced her and kissed her back before she laid down on the grass next to him. How on earth she could sleep out here in the scortching bright sun he didn't know. "5 minutes." He whispered putting his arm around her and looking up in the sky while she closed her eyes again. "I have to get started though because it's going to be a really hot day."
When she asked about the kids he groaned a little. "Better, they were taking turns at coughing and crying until about 3 am and then finally slept. I'm telling you that floor in the kids room is uncomfortable but I was too tired to care. They're better now." Brian was glad that it was nothing more and he'd been able to help and be there for them.
Next to him he could hear her tired, even breaths and when he looked at her she was dozing again. Gently Brian brushed back a strand of hair that had fallen across her face and then let his own back hit the grass again closing his eyes for a moment. This was great. Laying next to Mia in the grass on a Saturday morning...

She smiled at him when he agree with her. He wanted to get started on that roof but it could wait a little bit more, he then groaned and told her about the twins crying and coughing. “I am glad they are better now, if you need any help, let me know… I´ll be more than happy to help you,” she smiled and started to fall asleep.
Five, ten, fifteen or twenty minutes. She didn’t know how long she slept but woke up to find Brian next to her asleep too. She remembered how he told her about the twins were now okay but by the way he described the children´s floor was so uncomfortable let her know he slept there.
She could feel his arm around her waist, the sun was getting brighter now, she propped on her elbows to see him better. “Brian. Wake up,” kissing him gently on the cheek as she caressed his hair and waited for him to open his eyes. It looked like she wasn’t the only one who needed those “five minutes” of sleep.

Squeeling tires, cops, shots being fired...darkness and flashing lights from behind...the dream was vivid enough to feel real. When he suddenly got shaken and torn out of it, Brian had no idea what was going on for a second, flinched back violently and almost hauled off to smack that cop from his dream. Opening his eyes he found himself under the bright blue sky with the branches of a tree hanging close above his head. Next to him Mia was calling his name. With his heart still pounding in his chest he blew out some air and ran his hands over his head. "Oh shit...I just had a pretty realistic dream." Once he was fully awake he opened his eyes to look at her and then his watch. "Those 5 minutes turned into an hour." Sitting up slowly he found his and her skin red and tender to the touch. "Great..." It took him a moment but then he actually got up, stretched his even sorer back like an old cat and grabbed his car keys from the grass. "I'd better get started if I don't want to get baked in the sun." With a quick kiss he walked over to the garage to grab one of Dom's tool belts and get everything he needed, from a chain saw for the tree to everything he needed to rip off the broken panels. Theb he climbed up the ladder to the roof to make a game plan. How could he cut off that large branch without letting it crash onto the broken roof. The garage was empty but he'd still prefer to let the branch drop off the side. He'd have to cut it into a few pieces. Soon enough he was on top of the garage with a roaring chain saw in his hands. Balancing on the edge was all that much harder while he was holding the saw against the wood of the tree, which didn't give way so easily.

“Sorry….” It could´ve been easier to sleep inside where it was actually cool, but she was so tired she had no more energy to run inside and sleep on the couch. She stood up from the ground too and look for some shade to shield from the sun, her bear right arm was a little red and it started to burn a little as she lightly touched it, she took her long hair in a pony tail, while he looked for the tool belt to get started.
“I´ll be right back, I need to run to the store and buy those Coronas I promised you,” she let him know and turned around to go inside the kitchen and get some money, she walk out to the Charger and drove to the store.
Stepping inside the store decrease a little the pain of the burn, it didn’t take long for her to find and pay for the cold beers and some topical cream to soothe the sunburn and got out. While driving she stopped at a red light and took a quick look at the beach, a walk around in this hot weather wouldn’t be a good idea, maybe at night when the weather was a little better, it also depend on how tired Brian was too.
When she arrived home noticed a few small to medium pieces of the big branch on the floor, he was sweating profusely up there. She started drinking the cold beer holding a second bottle for Brian. “How is it going up there?” she asked once she couldn’t hear the chainsaw anymore.

By the time Mia came back Brian had cut most of the smaller side branches off and let them drop off the side where they were now laying in a big heap. He shut the chain saw off to climb down and take the cool beer from her hands. For a moment he looked at the light brown and the small beads forming on the outside of the bottle. No wonder Dom had made it his favourite.
The inside of his sunglasses along with most of his clothes were sweat soaked, so he took the glasses off to clean them with the bottom of his shirt. Small droplets were dripping from his nose when he wiped his shirt over his face. The beer was cool and soothing and Brian could barely taste the alcohol. "Dangerous." He smirked while finishing the small Corona in one long gulp. "Could you get me some water, too?" He wondered. "If I keep drinking beer to quench my thirst I will fall off the roof like a heat struck squirrel and then we'll never get it done."
For a moment he looked over at Mia, whose cheeks were red from the sun and there were beads of sweat on her forehead. Her shirt clung to her body outlining its nice shape. She looked so fabulous.
Handing her the empty bottle Brian ran his free hand through her hair to lightly touch her cheek and then leaned in for a brief kiss. Right now he didn't care anymore who would see them...not even Dom.
Soon the ex cop was back on top of the broken garage roof cutting into the larger stem. If all went well he could soon start ripping the broken parts off. The wood proofed to have a mind of its own making Brian stop every now and then to regain his balance and take a deep breath before he could cut through it completely. Under different cricumstances he would have postponed the job to a cooler day but this was Mia's garage. Mia's! Of course the large branch didn't cooperate and simply rolled where it wanted to, which was right onto the middle of the roof, where the broken parts gave way and it came crashing down into the middle off the garage taking tools with it with a loud bang. "Shit!" Brian cursed loudly while he watched the disaster. Dom would not appreciate him wrecking half his garage while trying to fix the roof."I hope you're brother's gone for a while!" He made a face.
