He stopped what he was doing and came down to where she was taking the beer from her hands. Mia took one long look at the branch he was cutting, there was no way in hell she could´ve done what he was doing.
“Yeah, I will bring you a glass of water in a minute,” she smirk as she imagine what Brian just described about what would happen in he kept drinking beer, he didn´t have any food in his stomach and if he kept drinking, the he would be drunk in a second.
“What?” while he handed her the empty bottle, he stopped for a moment to look at her. She was aware the bead of sweats on her forehead, how her clothes clung to her body, she stood in front of him as he gently ran his fingers through her long hair ending on her cheek making her smile, she welcomed the brief kiss but before she moved away from him she looked at him. “You stink,” she finally turned around as he climbed on the ladder; the day was starting to get hotter by the minute.
She walked to the kitchen, in the mean time her brother was in the back of her mind. How would he react if he found out she was back with Brian? It made her nervous, and the way he kissed her just a few minutes ago… Dom could´ve just walked in any minute but Brian didn´t seem to care. She made a mental note that as soon as Dom got home; she was going to talk to him.
Mia opened the door ready to walk into the kitchen but at the last minute regretted and turned around. “Brian, why don´t you…” but she was interrupted by a loud crash. She hurried to see the damage, it was even worse. “Well…If it makes you feel better, I wish Dom would stay wherever the hell he is for a few more hours. No…make that a few more days…”

Standing on top of the roof Brian took a moment to slow down his heavy breathing and shut off the chain saw. The wind that had picked up felt nice on his sweaty skin. Then he heard Mia's voice from the porch. “Well…If it makes you feel better, I wish Dom would stay wherever the hell he is for a few more hours. No…make that a few more days…” With a slight frown, that his own work had put on his face, he looked over at her and raised a brow. "Is that how much confidence you have in my skills...a few days?" Secretly he was wishing Dom would return and lend him a hand. That would shorten the work time a great deal.
Wiping the back of his hand over his forehead he waved Mia over. "How do you feel about getting your own hands dirty? Grab the Stihl, will you?" he lowered the Chain saw so Mia could grab it. "I need the pliers and...all the tools down there." He motioned for the belt sitting on the bottom while balancing on the angled roof. When he reached down his left foot slipped on the dirt that had accumulated up there over the years just to fall on his knees and saving himself instead of tumbling off the roof. Needless to say that his heart was suddenly beating in his neck at almost the same speed as when he was close to the finish line of a race. Only then did he notice that the heavy tool that had slipped from his fingers hadn't made it to Mia's safe hands but had landed on the grass.

“Oh come on! That´s not what I meant…” she trusted him completely, but if Dom ever walked through that door he wouldn’t be happy but Brian was doing an excellent job.
She forgot about the water for a moment and walked to where Brian was, in the mean time taking her long hair and making a quick ponytail so it wouldn´t interfere or stick like glue on her face because of the sweat. “How do you feel about getting your own hands dirty?” She smile because wasn´t one of those girls who complain about how their manicure was going to get ruined. “I don´t mind at all. What do you want me to do?”
Mia climbed half way up the ladder, she wasn´t a fan of heights, it wasn´t that high and if Brian hadn´t offer to help her, let´s just say she was going to have a hard time to get to the roof. Brian reached down for her to take the chainsaw while he stayed on the roof, just when she was about to grab it, he slipped, her heart was in her throat for a minute afraid he was going to fall off the roof, not remembering she had her hand out ready to grab the heavy chainsaw. “Brian! Are you…” he didn´t speak making her worry, and wasn´t sure if he hurt his knees or did he stepped on something when he landed on the dirty roof? She didn’t know if the chainsaw cut her fingers or her whole hand, luckily it didn’t.
She did noticed the chainsaw change position so quickly when Brian slipped, it turned in split second, she thought nothing had happen to her even though she felt the sharp part of the chainsaw grazed her fingers but didn´t pay too much attention, all she knew was the chainsaw being turned off.
She took a closer look at her hand feeling her fingers hotter than usual, her fingers were still attached to her hand which was a good thing although the blood started to ooze. She wrapped her hand in her white blouse tinting the white material with a bright red. “I´m fine…” she tried to reassure him as she climbed down the ladder and ran to the kitchen to wash her hand, she winced as the cold water entered the tiny cuts on all four of her fingers, that explain the rapid bleeding.

To his relief the chain saw hadn't dropped on Mia's foot because she had moved half way up the ladder. The relief didn't last long even though she claimed that she was fine when he watched her hurry away to the house. Was she really okay or had the sharp steel teeth of the saw dug their way into her flesh on its way down. "Damn." brian cursed himself for being so clumsy and loosingt he heavy tool. "Wait, what's wrong?" He called after her but the brunette didn't stop for even a moment, which wasn't a good sign. So Brian more or less jumped off the roof of the garage using only two steps of the ladder and ran to the back door of the house where the kitchen was located just to find her with her back towards him at the sink. When he looked over her shoulder he saw the crimson streaks running down the drain and the torn up skin on her fingers. "Oh shit." He grimmaced before looking at her face. In all the time he'd know her Mia had never had one scratch while the men around her were constantly bruised and bloody. So he had no idea whether she's break out in tears or grit her teeth and suck it up. "I'm so sorry." He said in a low tone and lightly took her arm to pull back her hand from under the water and get a better look at the damage done. As soon as the water stopped washing the blood away it ran freely over her fingers. It wasn't a huge wound but for some reason seeing her delicate limbs tattered and torn was worse than her brother getting a bullet in the shoulder. Brian could feel a knot in his stomach because ultimately it was his fault. "Where's your first aid kit?" He then looked in her face again and noticed how quiet she was. "Are you okay?" What a stupid question.

She felt the relief as the cold water wash the blood away and down the drain, in a second Brian walked in. Worried, and feeling guilty. “Accidents happen… it´s not that bad,” he took her hand to take a better look, and the blood kept oozing. She was more than sure she wasn´t going to need stitches because she wasn´t looking forward to go to the hospital and the cuts weren´t that deep.
“Like I said, it´s not that bad. I´ll survive,” she kept quiet for a little bit more, looking down at her injure hand. “Yeah… first aid kit should be in a cabinet under the sink in the bathroom,” She let her hand under the cold water a few more seconds and dry her injured fingers.
She watched him go search for it giving her time to take a seat still cleaning the blood. Her heart was beating so fast, of course she got scared but after knowing it wasn´t going to take stitches to heal those small cuts, she was starting to relax same as her heart beat was starting to go back to normal.

Brian was glad that Mia was not a girl to cry easily. On the contrary, she insisted that it wasn't bad. Of course it would hurt for a while though. Brian lightly squeezed her shoulder and told her that he'd get the first aid kit. "You're a trooper." He offered her an encouraging smile before he walked down the hallway to the bathroom, where he started rummaging around the stuff under the sink. A small box in his hands he returned to Mia who, despite all her efforts to look like nothing happened, was a little pale. Placing the stuff on the table in front of her he asked. "What do you need...hang on." Quickly he washed his hands while telling her. "Ironical, the nurse getting nursed by a guy with two apparently left hands." Then he came back and pulled some desinfectant and bandages from the box. "Hold still, this stuff stings." A few squirts of desinfectant and a few more or less successful attempts to gently wrap her fingers up, Brian leaned back and let out a labored breath. Her fingers were so delicate compared to his. Everything about Mia looked fragile, yet she wasn't at all. "Tough chick." He teased still feeling sorry. Then he looked up at her and once again apologized. "Guess you got more than you bargained for. Maybe stay away from the garage as long as I'm on top of it." Brian tried to joke.

She chuckled when he told her to hang on. “You make it sound like I am going to die or something…” He took a seat next to her and starting to clean the small cuts.
“This will be fun,” she felt the disinfectant on the small cuts, it was starting to burn. She didn’t groan, or curse, the only thing she did was grit her teeth as the pain started to decrease little by little. She held up her hand taking a quick look at the small bandages Brian applied. “Not bad, you did a pretty good job,” giving him a slight smile.
She could see he felt sorry, when was he going to understand he shouldn’t feel that way? It was an accident. “There´s no need to apologize and thank you for taking care of my fingers,” she gave him a quick kiss and moved to the sink to fill a glass with water. “Here,” setting the glass in front of him. “What you’re doing out there isn’t´ easy, it wouldn’t be fair for me to sit back and relax when you are out there, and is not even a cloudy day but freaking hot… So, what can I do to help you finish faster with that?” looking out the window to the tools scattered on the floor and the pieces of wood from the branch being cut.

It was hard to see her suffer, even just a little bit. All Brian wanted to see was that smile on her thin lips...ever. With knitted brow he took her arm and rubbed it just to somehow make her feel better. When she told him that he needn't apologize he nodded. "I know but I want to. I don't like seeing you in pain. You're too..." For a moment he looked around the kitchen completely ignoring her offer to help ,because it seemed like a terrible idea, and searched for the right word until he found it somewhere between the old laminate floor and the depths of the cupboards. "...precious." Musing over it he confessed. "And perfect. I only ever want to see good stuff happening to you. I want to see you happy." He stopped himself before he added what he was truly worried about. "...I'm not sure that is with me though. When have I ever brought you real happiness?" Was this a rhetorical question. Did he want an answer even? He followed her gaze out the window at the shattered tools and chainsaw that could have easily cut her whole hand off. "You see what I mean?" It was unlike Brian to be so melodramatic. Usually he was a guy who didn't think much in advance but acted on impulse. Mia, however, had become that one special person, he couldn't treat this carelessly. "What I'm trying to say is that whatever I do I mean well but usually it ends up being a mess...you're better than that as much as I want you."

She turned when she felt him rubbing her arm and dragged the chair next to Brian. He let him talk, she was aware he avoided her question to help him outside, she knew he wasn’t going to let her get near the garage, the ladder, he wouldn’t even let her set foot on the patio.“... I want to see you happy." All the time he had her full attention. “I am happy…”
Even as he talked and showered her with how precious and perfect she was… he was perfect too, beyond perfect. “When have I ever brought you real happiness?” Even if he wasn´t looking for her opinion she couldn´t help but to answer that question. Both of her hands cupped his face. “When? All the time, every single second, you make me happy,”
"What I'm trying to say is that whatever I do I mean well but usually it ends up being a mess... " She shook her head. “That is not true…” she removed her hands, kissing his cheek softly. Where was this coming from? What else could she to cheer him up? She totally disagree with what he was saying about everything he did end up in a mess…. Maybe life wasn´t being nice with him right now, but that didn’t mean everything he did ended up in a mess…

Brian was trying to make her think whether she really wanted him in her life again before she gave in to her feelings. His efforts to admit how little use he really had for Mia and that he didn't do her much good were wiped away by her simple words. 'I am happy.' Brian stopped and stared because he really didn't expect her statement. It was simple and clear as daylight. Nothing to be discussed about that. For a moment he looked at her in awe and listened to her explain how he did actually make her happy." Her words put a smile on his face that came from the bottom of his heart. Nothing could be better right now. It took a whole load of his shoulders. If Mia was really happy with him while all this crap was going down then so be it. Maybe he didn't have to feel guilty after all. "Wow. I didn't know." He sighed happily and turned his head to capture her lips. Then he reached behind her head to hold her right there and pressed his lips onto hers. For a brief moment he closed his eyes savouring this moment, then gently sucked on her bottom lip and smiled against her face. When he pulled back, he nodded. "You just took a load off me..."
Brian got up to embrace her in a hug before he cast a glance out the window. "I guess you still have one good hand. When I've torn the old panels off, you could hand me the new ones."

He stared at her in shock. It was nothing but the truth, as a smile made its way to his lips, making her smile back not really sure what he was going to do next. He looked so much better, all in a quick second, his body language changed, he looked more relax, content with her words.
“You…” but his lips on hers prevented her to utter another word. Her arms snaked around his neck bringing him closer to her welcoming the kiss. She couldn´t think straight when he played with her lips like that, he just knew how to make her lose her breath, she wished he didn’t have to end that kiss right away and she protested with a groan, as he kept smiling, finally embracing her.
“I guess you still have one good hand.” She looked at him when he said those words and laughed taking a quick look outside too. “We better hurry up and start working outside then, because I feel so damn comfortable where I am right now,”

Her lips on his, so soft and gentle. He could get lost in this moment. It was almost magical, as if she could make the world around them disappear. Mia and him had kissed many times over the years but it had never lost its thrill. When Brian looked into her dark brown eyes he knew she was right. For some strange reason he was making her happy. Her little groan almost sent him over the edge. From one second to the next he didn't care about the roof anymore. "Let the roof fix itself." He whispered against her lips and captured them again, this time sucking more passionate and sliding his tongue into her mouth and playing with hers. If he could make this moment last he surely would. It was one of the best ones in ages. “We better hurry up and start working outside then, because I feel so damn comfortable where I am right now,”"Me, too." he smiled against her lips and repeated the kiss only to make it last longer. No other woman ever had this sort of captivating effect on him. If this was captivity he surely loved being a tamed biest OOC:LOL sorry for the cheese, dunno where that came from.

She looked into his eyes enjoying the moment and giggled when he heard him say to forget about the roof and started kissing her again, every kiss won against the other, her skin felt like it was on fire, their bodies reacting to each other’s touch, and they didn’t care they were both sweaty. Heck, they could end up in bed that way and she wouldn’t mind at all.
Mia let him take control as the kiss deepened, taking his time to explore her mouth as if he never did. Her hand took a hold of his shirt and tightened around the thin material as a soft moan escape her lips, and Brian instead of stopping what he was doing, he kept torturing her with his mouth.
If she hadn´t open her mouth to remind him that they had to continue fixing the roof, then they would still be inside the kitchen making out, not even thinking what would happen if Dom walked in. She didn´t care of Dom, in fact her brother´s name was out of her mind as Brian took her lips one last time, this time Mia was the one who deepened the kiss, she just didn’t want to let him go outside, once she pulled back from the second kiss she eyed the sun and the tools on the grass. “Are you sure you want to go back there?” A way for her to tease him.

The slight touch, that small groan...every tiny little thing she did threatened to drive him crazy. The way they kissed was much more than a friendly 'I think I still like you'. It was as if nothing had ever changed between them and maybe it hadn't. As she subtly suggested that going upstairs would be a better option than back onto the roof Brian couldn't help but wonder whether that was a clever idea. Sure, Mira didn't want him in her life any more but was he ready to take this step? With Mia it meant a whole lot more than giving in to a wonderful moment. "I don't want to at all..." He sighed while holding her close and slowly tracing his fingers down her back until they rested on her lower back. Small beads of sweat were running down his face when he burried it in the nape of her neck trying his best not to give in to what she was suggesting.

Of course he didn’t want to go outside and work. Not when he had her in his arms, not when the passion seem to take over them for a second. Those little moments of them watching each other, kissing, nothing really seemed to change; it was like they never drifted apart.
When he buried his sweaty face on the nape of her neck, it gave her time to really think what she was trying to do, the way he sighed trying to resist to temptation. For some reason his family came to mind, to be more specific only his kids came to mind. Maybe…maybe it wasn’t a great idea...
She kissed his shoulder before placing her chin on his shoulder. Sweat drops made its way down her shoulder and lower back. “Let´s finish fixing that roof, come on…” she spoke softly waiting for him to release his hold on her. It was so hard to think clearly when he was this close and so damn easy to give in.

It was as if she could read every little motion he was doing. Could she sense that he was fighting the urge to give in to her? Was she trying to help or did she have second thoughts herself? Whatever it was Brian didn't want to let Mia slip from his hands so he kept his arms around her and didn't change position for a long moment. "I don't want to..." He objected to going back outside because to be honest upstairs seemed the much more attractive location. Torn back and forth he finally let his hands drop from her side and acknowledged Mia's wish. "Okay." Once more he took her hand to look at the four small bandages which had, of course, become stained with blood but looked alright. "No more saws for you." He chuckled before straightening up and taking a deep breath. "Whoa, a few more of those moments and you can use the garage as a swimming pool." He grabbed his work gloves from the skin and quickly drank some water trying to sort himself out and get his mind out of the gutter. Why was it so damn hard to walk back outside. This was much more than he'd ever expected from Mia. Not too long ago she'd run away from him. What a change, what a welcome one. There was still the thought in the back of his head that he wasn't alone anymore. He came with two little kids, even if it was just part time. But they were part of his life now.
On his way outside he suddenly felt the urge to call and make sure that the kids were alright. "Just a moment." He told Mia when he fumbled out his phone and stepped aside to call his ex, who for some reason seemed surprised that he cared. The conversation on the phone turned sour pretty quickly because he felt insulted. Why would he not care. At least the kids were alright after getting the right medicine and only needed a few days to recover.
Brian tried his best not to let the conversation with Mira phase him but he was pretty quiet when he climbed back up onto the roof and started tearing off the first broken panel.

Once again he let his arms tighten around her not wanting to let her go. He might have noticed she knew, it was like he was starting to change his mind but there was no going back at least for today. He wasn’t alone anymore; he had two little kids to watch over.
“Ouch,” she muttered as he took her hand to watch again her fingers, there was some blood and a little bit of pain. “Very funny,” she hit him lightly with the hand that wasn´t injured.
She waited a little bit more and stepped out with him ready to start working but he excused for a moment and walked away from her to call Mira and check on his kids, it didn’t take long for her to read his moves, pacing back and forth, and the frown on his face. “Damn it Mira,” she thought as he ended the call placing his phone on the back pocket of his jeans.
Every time Brian had a chance to talk to Mira, they would always end up piss off at each other, sometimes shouting, it was in time like this where she didn´t interfere with his thoughts or force him to talk to her about what was going on, she´ll wait for him to talk to her or even ask for some advice, that is if he wanted to. But for now, she watched him tearing one of the panels. Hopefully, that would cool him down from fighting with Mira over the phone.

It took a whole bunch of shingles to be ripped off the old garage and land on the grass next to it until Brian had finally worked through his discussion with Mira and calmed down enough to take things a little easier. His fingers were already sore despite work gloves and his arms needed a brake so he sat down on the good part of the roof and took off his gloves to inspect the blister that had formed on his hand. Blowing out some air he took a look around. There were still a few broken ones left, that had been cracked by the heavy branch. It was only a matter of time until rain would start coming into the garage and drop down on Dom's precious gem.
Pulling off his shirt and using it to wipe his face Brian got up again. Inside the house he could hear Mia closing a door or talking on the phone every now and then. She had retreated to give him some space, Brian assumed. Or maybe she just didn't want to be hit by another tool.
The day was way too hot for work like this but right now Brian was thankful because it gave him something useful to do where he could blow off some steam. So he bent down to remove the old shingles use a shingle scraper. Slowly he worked his way up until the last ones were gone. After the old covering was removed, he used some new felt to patch areas where wood showed through and tacked it down.
By now his back was turning red because of the sun mercilessly beating down on him.
"Mia! I need your hand." He hollered over to the house hoping he didn't have to climb down because he wanted to avoid every unnecessary move. He'd be sore enough at the end of the day as it was but at least he'd earn his bed at the Fort this way.

Taking a quick peak outside, she could see how Brian let out all of his anger by focusing on his work, that roof was looking better every minute that passed but it came with a catch, wincing at the sight of Brian´s bare and red back, it was going to hurt like hell the next day. Good thing she went to the grocery store not only to buy the beers she´d promised to buy him but also took her time to buy some topical ointment for sunburn.
Mia held her cell phone closed to her ear. “No. I don´t mind at all,” She stood up and got out to see what Brian needed help with. “Okay. Bye” She ended the call, placing her phone in the front pocket of her jeans. “What do you need to help with?”
It felt like she was inside an oven. The sun was horrible, it took her only 5 steps for her to start sweating not as much as Brian, but just because you weren’t doing some work and just standing, didn’t mean you were safe from the sunrays.

The bit of wind felt nice on his burnt skin. It had picked up for the past minutes. Brian watched her walk out of the house and pocket her phone. "I need you to hand me the shingles, so i don't have to keep climbing down...and some water, please." Before she could turn around he added. "And maybe a hat or something." There's was a good chance he'd get heat struck on a day like this.
Once she returned he sat on top of the roof, feet dangling over the edge. "If we get finished in time we should go to the beach." He mused hoping that Mia would agree.
Ten minutes later they started working again, placing one shingle after the other on top of the roof and nailing them down. The roofing nails were fairly hard to get in and Brian managed to hammer himself onto his own fingers more than once because of bad angles and heat. At least he was still wearing the leather work gloves.
Every now and then Brian had to stop though and Mia didn't looked to chilled down at the bottom of the ladder either. "If I had listened tot he weather forecast I wouldn't have started today. How are you doing?" He asked seeing skin already become a little darker with a slight hint of red. Mia however had a much darker complexion than him.
A gust of wind suddenly picked up one of the shingles that hadn't been tacked down yet and blew it off the roof.
