Letty sat in her car frozen. She parked downtown and was staring at the blue mailbox in the middle of the street, holding an envelope in her right hand.
Alot was going through her mind in that moment. Names...questions, answers, fears, wishes, curses. She was thinking about Dom, not knowing whats going on with him made her insane. She missed him so much, she hoped he was okay. She knew Dom is a survivor, but wondered how is he doing without her.
Letty couldn't contact him, for months she was looking for a way out of the prison Braga built for her. He forced her to race and make money for him and it was a true torture. His bullies always molested her and if she was any other girl she'd break long ago, but she is still herself...and never takes shit from no one.
That's how she got a decision to take a bold, risky move, knowing that the only man that can save her was Brian O'Conner. Last time their paths crossed it didn't end up too well but he was the only one she knew would care and the only one with a steady address. Luckily, a friend of a friend of a friend was still in touch with Brian, that adrenaline junkie...she knew he couldn't stay off of street racing for too long. He was still in the scene.
So here she was, her face sparkling from the heat, her right hand shivering with the bright brown envelope. Letty stared down at the closed envelope one last time, seeing it as her ticket for freedom. She checked one last time that Braga's apes weren't following her and walked out of the car towards the mailbox. Letty slipped the thin page through the narrow opening, saying a prayer in her heart.

The night was pretty chilly for California at this time of the year. Nobody was outside but Brian could see a few lights on in houses in his neighborhood when he made his way up the stairs to his front porch. It had been a long day at work and he couldn't wait to grab a cool Corona and slump down on his couch. Absentmindedly he grabbed the stack of letters and advertising, which was stuffed in his mailbox. When he unlocked the door Buster was already waiting to go outside and do his business. Since Brian was too tired to go for a walk he simply let him wander off after giving him a short pet. He browsed through the mail but didn't find anything interesting so he tossed the whole stack on the kitchen counter and went to the fridge to open a beer. When he put the bottle to his lips he noticed a brown envelope sticking out of some furniture advertising. He pulled it out and saw that his adress was handwritten. No return adress though. With a bit of curiousity he opened it and pulled out a letter. Handwritten as well, which was quite unusual. As soon as he'd read the first few lines he almost joked on his beer and had to set it down. Was this a joke? Somebody was pretending to be Letty? Brian stared at the letter. Letty was dead. He'd seen the burned car wreck. He'd watched them burry her. Why would somebody pretend to be her? Was this a trap? He read on and after reading the whole letter over twice blinked for the first time. It was a cry for help. Supposedly Braga was holding her hostage. But Braga was in prison. Brian could feel a strange cold, weird sensation in his body. Desperately he searched for answers but needed to be sure, so he grabbed his keys, the letter and whistled for Buster to come back in the house. "Sorry, bro. I gotta go back to the office."
Without a hint of tiredness he ran back into the FBI headquarters half an hour later and hoped he'd still find some analysis guy there. And he did. The man ran a check on fingerprints on the letter. Brians stare changed into an expression of disbeleive and excitement when he heard that the only prints were his own and the one's of a person called Leticia Ortiz.

A few days passed by while Letty tried as hard as possible to act normal. As if nothing's going to change, as if she'll stay here forever, sleep in a crappy warehouse where Braga locks her every night. She dared to think of the fatal note only at night when she laid her head down and sank into drowsiness, just then - hope took over. She knew she must deny and forget about that letter and what it's gonna being until the last minute - until the arrival date that was specified in it.
10 days of denial and 10 nights of sleepless hours have finally come to an end. Braga had a mission for her, he didn't tell her what it was or who she'll be meeting but he gave her one piece of information that served her well, the place of the meeting would be not to far away from where she asked Brian to meet her in her letter. It was a total coincidence, a twist of fate. Letty orgnized a small backpack with all of her things and hid it in the trunk. The hour was almost 1 PM, Braga was supposed to show up any minute to give her a package to deliver to the man she was meeting. Suddenly she heard a soft sound comes from below, she looked down, seeing that something was dragged from underneath the door, a note. Letty grabbed the note that was on the floor and unfolded it, reading carefully.
"There are 3 big brown boxes on the right side of the room. Open the middle one, you'll find a package in it, wrapped in brown paper. Go to where I told you before and wait there, when that man shows up - you'll know.
Don't talk to anyone and don't do anything stupid, you deliver the package and come straight back into the warehouse."
He didn't have to sign his name, Letty already knew it was Braga and his orders. She opened the middle box and took the package, placing it underneath the passenger seat. She was curious about whats in there but ignored it, she was on a mission, and it wasn't even delivering that package - it was meeting Brian and getting the hell away from Mexico. She asked Brian to meet her in a local Diner close to the border, only 30 minutes of driving.
The hour was 2 PM when she realized she was almost there, she have to get to the Diner by 3 PM shot. She stopped at the place where Braga told her, it was some kind of a vantage point on a cliff. A single car parked over there, black with dark windows. Letty parked the car and took out the package, walking towards the car. There driver's window rolled down and he reached his hand to grab the package. "Tell him I appreciate it very much." was the only thing that he said with a mischievous smile. You can tell him yourself, because I'm outta here. Letty thought to herself but just nodded quietly at the man. He then started the car and drove off. Letty got back into her car and instead of going back...kept heading closer to the border, to that dinner that she mentioned in the note. It was one of those moments when you decide something that'll change your life forever. She had been planning this for so long and now it was finally happening.

the whole day Brian had been pacing the floor at work. He checked the location that Letty wanted to meet on his computer. It seemed a normal diner close to the border. A couple of days ago he'd gotten the papers that allowed him to transfer an informant across the border using some stupid excuse so they wouldn't run into any trouble there because she probably didn't have her passport. Still the whole thing gave him stomache cramps. He had to make sure that nothing would go wrong this time. He owed it to both Letty and Dom. Dom didn't know anything yet.
When he was finally done with his boring day at the office he headed to his locker, grabbed his bullett proof vest and then made his way home.
At home he found his brother playing videogames with Busters head on his lap. The dog had hopped up on the couch next to him. "Buster! Down!" Brian commanded. "Hey, Jack!" Then he headed into the kitchen where he nervously opened a beer and made himself a sandwich going through his plan in his mind again. Chewing on a bite he watched Jack through the open door. For days he had been contemplating whether to tell him what he was up to or not. Finally he sat down the sandwich and walked over to his younger brother. "Jack, I gotta talk to you."
A couple hundred miles south a dark figure was sitting in a truck parked at a gasstation. The man was just about to grab his wallett and head in when he spotted a familiar looking car going by. He knew exactly who was driving it even though he couldn't see the dark haired beauty. For a second he rubbed the stubble on his chin. What would his boss say if he knew that he'd seen HER head away from their hacienda and didn't do anything about it. So he started his engine and followed her at a safe distance. With meaty paws he fumbled out a cell phone and called some of his "co-workers" to inform them in a low Spanish rumble.

Jack barely noticed his brother coming home. His focus went completely to the tv screen in front of him where he was racing another car for first place. "Hell yeah!" He yelled at the screen taking the lead while he chucked some beer down from the bottle in front of him. It took a while for him to realize Brian was staring at him and gave a short nod without taking his attention of the screen. "Hey bro, didn't see you come in" Not knowing what his brother meant he simply replied "Whatever it is I did. I didn't do it" His focus was still on the race game. With only one lap to go, it was a sure win.

Brian stepped next to him and looked at the screen for a second tempted to watch him race. But instead he said. "You didn't do it yet at least." He smirked at his brothers reply. Then he pulled the plug and said. "Listen carefully!" He looked at him long and hard to make sure he had Jacks full attention. Before he started his speech he grabbed Jacks beer and had a long gulp. "Do you remember the friend I told you about who got killed during one of my previous assignments? She's not dead!" He paused wondering whether that made any sense. "I got a letter from her the other day saying that she's being held hostage in Mexico. She has to race for a criminal and his gang to make money. But she's trying to get out of Mexico and asked me for help. I have no adress or way to contact her. I don't know where they usually keep her. All I know is that she told me to meet her a little south of the border in a few hours and I am going to go!" He searched his brothers face for a reaction still wondering whether he should ask him to come along. His face was young and carefree. Suddenly Brian felt like this wasn't a good idea. If this was a set-up he'd drag his little brother into a situation that wasn't controllable. Brian needed to make up for what he'd done before but Jack didn't. "Look, forget it. I'm going to leave in a few minutes. Just wanted you to know where I'm going. Can you feed Buster until I'm back?"
With that he left to evade a discussion and to go upstairs, change his clothes and grab the shotgun from underneath his bed.

Jack looked at his brother in slight disbelieve. The story sounded rather strange and exciting. Certainly exciting enough to get his full attention. He figured his brother's initial idea was to ask him for help yet backed out of it because he felt it was too dangerous. But Jack could care less about danger. He could hold his own in sticky situations. If Brian wanted to do this Jack figured he could use some help. Besides, if anything did go wrong he could always blame Brian afterwards. He tossed the controller on the table forgetting all about the race Brian fucked up by pulling the plug and waited for him to come back down. As soon as Brian came back down ready to go, He stood up and blocked his way. "So you tell me this story and then expect me to let you have all the fun while I feed your damn dog?" He shook his head smiling. "No way man!" His smile turned into a smirk when he slapped his brother on the shoulder. "Don't worry about me bro. After all, they can only kill me once." He jingled the keys to the Skyline in front of his brother's nose before he tossed them at him "Let's go, hot shot" With that he walked outside, toward the Nissan.

Brian stood their ready to object, yell and curse or whatever it took to keep jack from coming. Instead he just shrugged and mumbled. "You're old enough to make your own decisions. I guess you might as well come and joing me before i have to pick you up at the prison again when I get back."
A second later he hopped in the passenger seat, shoved the gun behind the seat and tossed the keys back at his brother. "I need some rest plus you still gotta put your money where your mouth is."
Before he went to sleep on their long way south Brian told Jack about Letty and Dom and how they met, skipped a few details and went to how Letty tried to clear Dom's name by becoming an informant. He tried to make his brother understand why he felt the need to help her. At the end he added. "If anything seems fishy you gotta promise me to keep your head down. I only have one vest. I don't want to burry you instead of her." He looked Jack in his blue eyes.

Jack simply nodded as a reply to his brother before he started the engine and pulled the Skyline out of the driveway onto the street. When they left the city behind and went on to the open roads Jack felt it was time to see exactly what the Nissan was made of and with Brian asleep next to him, he figured he could really put the pedal to the metal. With little traffic ahead the Skyline almost flew over the highway, the miles between them and the Mexican border melting away like snow for the sun. As they came closer to the border he changed to the acceptable speed before he stopped at a resting place close to the crossing. With the strictness of the border police these days, Jack figured it was better to let Brian, the FBI agent, do the rest. He nudged his still sleeping brother. "Yo sunshine, time to wake up"

Brian drousily opened his eyes but when he remember their mission he was awake within seconds. He saw the border and changed seats with Jack. "Leaving the states won't be the problem. Coming back might." He mumbled while rubbing his eyes. A short glance at his watch told him they had some time since they were supposed to meet Letty in 40 minutes. "It'll take us about 15 minutes to get to that diner. Have you been flying? How many tickets are going to be in my mail box next month?"
20 minutes later they pulled up at the diner. Brian immediately scanned the parking lot for a car that could be Lettys but all he could see were old rusty wrecks, trucks and station wagons. "Let's go inside." He grabbed his gun from the glove compartment and shoved it in the belt og his chinos. Then he handed Jack the vest. "Put that on, please."

Jack rolled his eyes when he saw the vest being held out to him. With a sigh he grabbed it. Knowing Brian, he knew he might as well go home now if he didn't since his brother wouldn't have it any other way. He pulled his shirt over his head, put the vest on and put the shirt back over it. "Happy?" He shook his head, glancing at his brother. As they both walked towards the diner, Jack lit one of his cigarettes up. He took a long drag from it before he asked "So what do we do next? What are we supposed to be looking out for?" He let the smoke flow out with the questions. He had no idea what to expect next. He still only knew what Brian had told him. But while looking over at his brother, Jack had a feeling Brian didn't know what to expect either. Which was something that made him feel slightly uncomfortable.

"I'm not sure." He said while looking around when they entered the diner. None of the faces seemed familiar at first glance. "Mexicans..."He joked. Then they found a table near the window. Brian ordered a burrito and a coke. Nothing looked more suspicious than two guys sitting in a diner who didn't eat or drink. "We'll just wait until she shows up-well whether she shows up." Nervously he tapped his fingers on the table. Why did he drag his brother into this again?

Jack only ordered a coke since he hated Mexican food. He folded his arms on the table and leaned his chin on them. The heat was slowly starting to get at him and the vest was not helping. Hadn't the Mexicans ever heard of air conditioning? Finally their cokes and Brian's burrito arrived and without pausing he gulped the cold drink down. At least that gave him some refreshment. Out of nowhere he suddenly asked "Have you ever shot anyone?" referring to the gun his brother was packing.

The burrito smelled great. Brian bit right into it, chewed and enjoyed it until Jack popped that question, which almost made the bite get stuck in his throat. "What?" Did he really hear him right. Then he looked away. Shooting somebody was a terrible experience and he didn't like to talk about it. It was part og his job though. Usually the cop tried to aim at peoples legs, arms or shoulders but sometimes missed. Still it was better then biting the dust. He kept chewing and thought about a good answer. With a frown he replied. "Yeah, but I'm not proud of it." Then he eyed his brother. "Why? Did you ever? Do you know how to use a gun?" While he was talking he scanned the parking lot for Lettys arrival.

Letty parked her car in the lot and locked the doors. She quickly got into the diner when she didn't recognize any of the cars that were parking by.
Her walking was fast and fury, she felt nervous and uptight. Letty pushed the Diner door open and scanned the place for the blond guy. She traced him sitting infront of the encounter and the second her eyes met him her heart skipped a beat. She looked at Brian and all the good memories about having a life and freedom in her reach, especially the freedom thing.
Just a few seconds later she noticed he was not sitting alone, there was another man sitting next to him, they had almost the same hair color, infact, he looked alot like Brian, Letty's suspicious instincts alerted in her head.

"Nah man, I've never shot anyone. I do know how to use a gun though." With a slight smile he added "You know what the old man is like. Gotta be able to protect what is yours, bla, bla" If it was one thing Jack hated about his old man, it were those endless speeches about duties and whatever else the man could throw at him. Most times however, Jack just ignored the guy. Outside, a car arrived and seconds later a woman entered the diner who fit the description Brian had given him earlier pretty damn good. The smile disappeared from his face as he looked at his brother. Then he nodded towards the girl who was staring at them from the entrance of the diner. "I think your friend just arrived, bro."

Brian followed Jacks gaze and turned around to look behind him towards the door. The sight that presented itself gave him goosebumps as he mouthed. "Letty." It was really her. She was alive-standing right there not even 10 meters away. It felt like a huge rock dropped off his heart. He had barely dared to get his hopes up suspecting that the letter had been sent by somebody else. But there she was.
Without further thought he darted up and walked towards her with arms wide open and embraced her in a hug. "Letty!" He almost got tears in his eyes. So with joked up voice he said. "I'm so glad you're alive! We all thought you got killed." He looked her up and down. "Are you okay?"

Letty let her arms drop off of Brian's back as he pulled away, she looked into his big blue eyes and all the past memories seemed to come up at once. She was never an emotional person but this moment was.
"Yeah." Letty said, her voice trembled a little. She cleaned her throat and turned to look on the parking lot area infront of the Diner. "Long story, Brian." Letty said in short and turned to face him, ignoring the the young man next to him for a while. "Listen, they were behind me the whole drive, maybe they didn't think I noticed, Braga's men. I'm guessing they'll be here soon." Letty said anxiously under one breath.
She looked at Brian in fear and firmness, wanting to hear what's his plan. Coming all the way down here...I mean...He probably had a plan...right? Letty wondered as she faced him quietly.

Immediately Brian looked outside the window as well to see a couple of cars pulling up. He had no idea whether those were the guys she was talking about. So he took her by the hand, pulled her towards the table, where he left 10 dollars and said to Jack and her. "Looks like we have company. Let's get out of here." He motioned for the kitchen. On the way through the kitchen ha shouted the introduction. "Letty, that's my brother Jack." The small diner really had a back door, which was blocked by boxes filled with produce, which they had to get out of the way. Outside the sun blinded them. "Shit , I should have parked in the back."
In front a almost toothless Mexican pulled up next to a younger but bald fellow. They nodded at each other when the spotted Letty's car. The younger one reached into his car to grab a gun, which he hid in his jacket. "Vamos!"

The tension was rising fast now with the Mexicans on the other side of the small diner. When Jack had seen one of them grab a gun, his heartbeat had risen. These guys were pretty damn serious. Staying at home feeding Buster did not seem so bad right now. He shielded his eyes against the burning Mexican sun. "One of us should get the car and get it over here. If they see her now, we're fucked!" He turned around to both of them, his brother in particular, with his hand held out. "Keys?" The look in his eyes saying he was not to be argued with.
